Jazzy, Really beautiful. We used to go to eastern OK where the foothills begin to see the redbud and dogwood blooming together.

In the back yard this past hour, a red tailed hawk looking for something tasty to eat. I did this close up and also noticed the cottonwood it was sitting in is budded out!

Jazzy... The Magnolia is just beautiful.. We grew a magnolia tree at another home we had.. but we only got an occasional white flower. Both your photos are gorgeous.. Keep them coming :-) I also like the pic of the hawk.!

Heres a photo of the favourite part of my garden.. The chooks.!! The little grey one hasn't started laying yet..but I can't wait.. She is an Auracana and they lay blue eggs :-)

I hope to post the final full bloom of the weeping cherry tomorrow. The top is almost fully out now and a photo in the early morning is the prettiest! Stay tuned!
Despite having a dragging butt today with time change and company for days, I did get out to the back yard and cleaned out and pruned another section of the yard. As you know, it is a never ending process to clean out and prep the gardens for spring!

Teka- we have pigeons too and some of the hawks and falcons here do a nice job of taking them out. This red tail was definitely eyeing something on the ground below, and then went down to get it.

Hawks can do a pretty good job with pidgeons. Unfortunately, they sometimes take cats too. There's a company here called Canopy Cat Rescue. They posted a photo of a terrified orange cat at the top of a fir tree. They said an eagle had swooped down and barely missed the cat. He was much happier after they brought him down. It's a great service.

On the way back from our hike Saturday, Dh and I past an awesome nursery. We left having ordered almost 3 tons of river rock in additional to all of our annual pinestraw. Delivery is Friday so Dh and Dd get to spend the weekend laying rock. It's for drainage on our hill but it looks good once it's down. I will try to do some plant trimming while they work. We got a really good deal but it put a major crimp in my annual new plants budget.

Scottie, I visited Atlanta a couple years ago, it is such a beautiful city. We did some touristy stuff and spent time in the Old Fourth Ward and Inman Park as that's the area where my niece lives. Loved it. Toured Jimmy Carters library museum. Walking around the grounds there was extremely inspirational and incredibly uplifting. There was a pretty lake area and a beautiful peace garden with perennials
More of the perennials I planted late last year are showing signs of life. Still waiting to see if the bee balm will return. It's one of my favorites, I have grown red bee balm for years, love the sight and smell plus the hummingbirds love it. It's kind of finicky. It only grows in certain areas of the yard. Some places it'll grow one year and not return the next. Last year I planted pink and purple bee balm, not sure yet if it took.

Divine. . .I love going to our botanical gardens in different seasons. It gives me planting ideas. Jazzy. . .love the lenten roses. Can't wait to start working on my gardens. First week in May is our Master Gardner's plant sale. Lots of good sized hostas for only $4 and all kinds of other plants and flowers for cheap. We get there before opening and have a car full within 15 -20 minutes. It's first come, but one of my neighbors helps run it so we have a bit of an "in".
T minus 12 hours or so until the arrival of nearly 3 tons of river rock.

I have several hellebores in my front garden. They bloom before anything else in the late winter. And, as a bonus, the deer don't touch them!

We're supposed to have a cold snap over the weekend so the lovely magnolias that are just starting to open will get zapped. Happens often here since the magnolias bloom so early. Last year they missed getting frosted and were magnificent. I don't have one but there are many in town.
Here's the before and after pics of thepark bench I painted. I love how it just blends. Today, I gave the evergreens on either side of it a nice trim. Hope to mulch the beds soon. Purple clematis will grow up the trellis and bloom in May. There is also a red knock out rose shrub on either side of the bench that got planted late last year. Dh will need to start cutting the grass soon! The bench replaces a massive, old broken wood swing which I was glad to be rid of. I, too am inspired by botanical gardens.

Divine- the bench looks super classy! Blends nicely with the background. I'm looking for a follow up photo in the summer when that purple clematis pops all over that trellis! I love roses and clematis, and often plant them in the same hole, trapped together for eternity! Or in my gardens, say 10 years.

My rock has arrived, Dh is not looking forward to this, but I am. It spring planting and landscaping time.

Scottie mom, break out the Advil, ya gonna need it after putting down all that rock! Isnt it nice to be at this time of year? I see a redbud tree in the background of your rocks. And a pond/lake

Day one of two for rock rock rock. . .Divine, I still don't have my ROM or strength back so Dh, Dd and Ds were on rock duty. They finished one pallet today. Next year I want to put a wide band of rock all along the lakefront. My neighbor plans to as well. That would require twice as much rock and we would have to hire workers to put it down.
I manage to trim our large hydrangeas, azaleas and heather.

Jackie, I look forward to when both the clematis and knockout roses are in bloom around the bench. I think it wil really look park-like and inviting then. The small brick building actually belongs to my neighbor, the back of it runs along our property line. I look over and see the bench from my back porch. I saw a cute little garden gnome with an orange hat and holding a shovel at Walmart, may get it for that side of the yard. I'm a little picky about yard ornaments, they have to appeal to me on some level, whatever that is.
