    Beautiful pics, Ducky!

Iris, I'm glad to hear your liking your new MO. It's so hard to find good docs. And yay to decent test results!

    Congrats, Mommy!

Sorry I have not been logging in, just have not been up to it. I've been dealing with dermatology stuff. My Mohs surgery resulted in quite a scar, and my dermatologist wants to excise it and start over to see if he can get a better cosmetic result. I'm skeptical - I think it will just turn out the same way on a second try. I had my annual skin check today and had another mole taken off my back, plus I've got this little red spot on the palm of my hand that no one seems to know for sure what it is, but they aren't too worried about it, even though I am. I seem to just go from one thing to another.

Oy. I remember sitting outside (on the quad, the front porch, or the beach), wearing baby oil & iodine or Bain de Soleil gel (the transparent orange kind that was a sand-magnet) and using sun reflectors. I never, ever tanned (except one of those fake Coppertone things that turned my hands orange and began peeling when the sunburn beneath it peeled. (To my supreme embarrassment, while standing in line at Nassau Coliseum with my date, waiting to enter a Cream concert). I do remember getting blistering sunburns, and my friends & I would peel each others’ backs like monkeys grooming each other.

Thanks all, it made my week much better. My older brother and his wife (my favorite SIL) didn't forget my anniversary at least. My SIL's birthday is a few days later. Hubby and I celebrated it by going to a ball game for a local minor league team that isn't far from us last Saturday and dinner at a Chinese buffet on Monday. At least I have some people in my life that did remember, especially my best friend from Freshman year of high school. Her birthday was the same day as my anniversary, so she couldn't forget it. We exchanged birthday/anniversary wishes on Facebook.

Lol, Lori! It was so weird walking into my 20th class reunion a few years ago and finding not many of us have changed! I hadn't seen some of my friends since graduation and we were talking like we were still in school!

My grandson graduates from Northwestern University today with his Master's Degree in Executive Business....he works full time as a Financial Analyst and is a VP at 33 years old......he graduated from Carnagie Mellon University ....he was the quarterback of their football team and took them to a division championship......and came out of the college and right to work making a 6 figure salary.....I am so proud of him, ans wish I could have been there to see his final accomplishment of many,..but it will be televised and way back here in Pa. I will be able to see him recieve another diploma.......I attended the one at Carnagie Mellon......there was a lot of walking with this...airports/parking/ one facility to the other, and a long day....still wish I could have done it..but it would have slowed things down for others.......just glad I can watch it on TV....

Praying for Lucy's grandson this morning...

    You really are blessed, Ducky!

Well, I'm paying another visit to CrazyTown. My PCP yesterday was pleased that my murmur was no longer audible and that even with exertion my heart rate was only 72 (60 at rest, 55 with guided meditation breathing). The statin is working: my total cholesterol is down to 210, the only reason it's even that high is that my HDL is back up to 85. Everything else in the lipid panel is w/in normal desirable limits, and my ratio is only 2.5. My glucose is 103, down from 112—it's down because it was fasting rather than postprandial or random, but is >100 only because of the statin. He says I don't need metformin, and just to keep limiting carbs and keep exercising and trying to lose weight. I'm down another pound.

But he did tell me that over the past couple of years my hemoglobin has been steadily declining, from 13.1 to 12.5 to 12, to 11.8 and now 11.7. So he took B12 & D levels, but they and iron are normal. I eat red meat about twice a week, and an egg or two a day (yolks included). I take a multivite. So I am getting nervous again—a GI bleed, perhaps? (No blood in my stool and my hemorrhoids haven't been acting up). Might need another endoscopy (had one in 2011 with my colonoscopy and again in 2013). Ominously, studies (most recently one in Israel) have shown that a gradual decline in hemoglobin could be a harbinger (as much as 3 yrs in advance) of stomach, colorectal, or myeloid (leukemia, myeloma, MDS) cancer.

Another truly ominous thing is that even though I haven't done any strength training in a week (my trainer's on vacation), my upper back has been getting progressively sorer, especially first thing in the morning and late at night. Even without my bra on. It's worse when I try to stand up super-straight (as per my prescribed exercises), descend stairs, plop down into a chair or on to the toilet, or bend over past the point where I can squat. And also when I exhale from the chest rather than abs. I was osteopenic even before starting letrozole. It could be a mid-spine compression fracture, or (gulp) lung-related. I'm not short of breath or coughing, and never smoked (though I've had considerable exposure over the years to secondhand smoke and I have never had my basement radon-tested). But I just read about a young (19) nonsmoker who was diagnosed with lung cancer when she thought she'd pulled a back muscle after sneezing and a chest X-ray revealed the tumor. Also scared about bone mets, though the soreness isn’t present on rest (yet).

I have a message in on my patient portal to my PCP to ask if I need to get a chest X-ray over at the Urgent Care center (closes at 3, and I'm trapped here waiting for a friend who was supposed to pick up an Rx for her DH at 9:30, but she called to say they're running late for her tattoo (!) appt.--she's getting some Doctor Who-themed thingy on her arm) and won't be here till 1:30 or even 2:30. We have Father's Day brunch reservations tomorrow at 1. (On another thread, I posted about how frustrated I am about having to get up earlier than normal only to have people cancel or postpone on me—getting only 6 hrs. of sleep is beginning to grate on me; dunno how Bob manages to do it and function in a job where people's lives are at risk).

Neighbor update for those of you following this mad mad story . . . last night I hear someone digging at 10pm. I'm wondering if her husband is digging a grave? Then the movie Shawshank Redemption comes to mind and I chuckle at the idea of him tunneling out of his marriage. So I peek out and see him with a headlamp on pulling up dandelions. Just then he turns my way and the headlamp shines right on my face. I feel like I've been caught, but oh well, I think his behavior is stranger than mine. Poor thing, pulling weeds in the dead of night on Father's Day. Meantime this morning my husband is mowing and she stops him to ask him if we can meet tonight? Only we have plans tonight. So now my husband has scheduled us for tomorrow. Oh boy. My last experience with her was that she threw my lawn chair and broom into the bushes. My scabs from climbing over the sticks and stickers to get them back are almost healed. I am having so much anxiety to have to meet with her. It's an opportunity to calm things down a bit and maybe be able to walk around in my yard without feeling uncomfortable. But in the back of my mind I know it will probably not end well.

Sandy, I hate it when people cancel at the last minute for silly reasons. I definitely am one who needs beauty sleep just to stay human! I wish you could catch a break for all these medical issues.

Eggroll, I would not want to meet with her at all. What purpose would it serve? She's a horrible person. I laughed out loud when reading your thoughts about her hubby digging his way to freedom... or a grave!

Yesterday was my DHs birthday as well as Father's Day. Our busy day started out with breakfast in bed. The kids and I made breakfast, then we all got in/on our bed and ate it together! Family tradition that started because the kids didn't understand the typical definition of breakfast in bed.

We are trying to finish up our vacation plans. We are going to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. My DH and I worked summers in Yellowstone when we were in college and are looking forward to sharing the parks with our kids. My DH and youngest son will fly there and meet up with the rest of us who will drive. My youngest has Boy Scout summer camp and Band Camp, so he only has a week break. So my oldest sons and I are able to take more time away. I'm trying to decide where to visit after Yellowstone, on our drive back to California. Maybe Glacier National Park? Rocky Mountain National Park? Dinosaur National Monument? Sand Dunes? So many places to see.... Just trying to predict how much I will be able to do since I get fatigued so easily.
