SharonRose, good luck! In your pocket.

Octo, congratulations on your DS's engagement! What wonderful news. Are you officially retired now? And thanks for the health care links. I have found the Kaiser Family Foundation to be a very helpful source of information about insurance. Waiting with bated breath for the latest CBO score.

Any members of Crazytown who find themselves in NYC should let me know if they are coming!

Welcome Curly and Sharon. When someone says waiting is the hardest part, they aren't kidding. In your pockets, we in Crazytown have made pocket parties an art.

Rain, sorry I didn’t give you a heads-up when we went to NY a few weeks ago for Bob’s 50th HS reunion (he went to school in Queens but the reunion was out near Huntington). We just didn’t have enough time to do half of what we wanted to do, much less make it into Brooklyn (my old home town). Next time we’re out there (we have a timeshare a few blocks s. of Central Park), will let you know well in advance.

Curly, Sharon, welcome. In your pocket for the biopsy, Sharon. Remember 80% turn out benign.

Sandy, would love to see you when you're next in NYC!

    Ditto Octo, Robin, anyone, really....

QMC, good luck transitioning to the next course.

Iris, hope treatment is going okay.

DS graduates high school tomorrow! Honestly, when I was diagnosed two years ago, I didn't take for granted that I'd see it happen. Very grateful!

Welcome, Curly and Sharon! Sharon, let us know how today goes.

The part I didn't understand about the latest proposed healthcare legislation is that the analysis of it that was in my local paper seemed to indicate that the people whose premiums would be hardest hit would be the age group that tends to vote Republican. You'd think these politicians would be looking out for their core voters to make sure they don't get voted out next election.

I'm glad to see on the sign that CrazyTown has live music!

My MO is finally back in the office today after being out last week. I waiting on couple of questions I sent to him. My GP and I are also tweaking my blood pressure medication. He keeps telling me my blood pressure is stress. Can't imagine where I'd be getting stress from. Loopy

I won’t speculate on GOP Senators’ motivations—much as I’d like to, this isn’t the thread for that. Iris, hope you get some comforting news from your MO and your new med treats you gently and works like a charm.

My anemia is definitely iron-deficiency, confirmed by low ferritin levels. Bob (for the newbies here, my husband the cardiologist) says he’d do GI imaging ASAP to see where my gut is slowly leaking blood and in the meantime start me on megadoses of iron & vit. C (and letting me take Aleve for my deep upper back muscle strain—I pulled a lat a couple of weeks ago, only noticed it when the usual DMS—deep muscle soreness—that came on 2 days post-workout got continually worse instead of going away by night 3).

Tonight’s our 46th anniversary—gonna celebrate by chowing down on prime dry-aged dead cow and sipping a great red wine at RPM Steak. Off to shower and get dolled up...

Happy Anniversary, Sandy! In your pocket for the imaging.

My MO finally returned to the office and called me back. He wants me to have an ultrasound. I was surprised he didn't want to see me first to see what I was talking about, but they're just sending me straight to ultrasound. That's scheduled for Monday. At least I don't have to wait 10 days for the ultrasound like I did two years ago.

Well, I have (at least for the next 3 weeks) just lost a coping tool to calm me down in CrazyTown. In order to diagnose the cause of my slowly declining (but only slightly low) hemoglobin, my PCP just messaged me to say that until we repeat the CBC on July 16, I now need to give up alcohol (not just the aspirin & NSAIDs I’ve already given up). No more wine???!!! Say it ain’t so!!!! If the repeat CBC shows the hemoglobin has stabilized or risen, then he says the cause is “likely nutritional.” (I hope that means all I have to do is increase iron & vit C). If it keeps dropping, he wouldn’t repeat the GI endoscopy, but maybe do a capsule endoscopy to look for a leaky arteriovenous malformation in my small intestine—which, if found, also probably wouldn’t be treated with anything other than iron & C.

Don't you love it when they put us under all this stress and then say ,"oh, and don't eat any chocolate/wine/anything that tastes good" at the same time? My blood pressure has not been below at least 140/95 all day. It was not that high yesterday, so I know it's the stress. I'm going out to get a quesadilla (gonna have some cheese since I was good all day) and go to the movies. I've never been to a 3D movie before, maybe that will lower my blood pressure a little.

I have most of my wonderful grass-fed ribeye left over from last night’s anniversary dinner at RPM Steak. I also have a bottle of 2009 Barolo that Bob mistakenly opened the other night when he intended to open something he could drink freely with spicy meatloaf (!!!!—wish he’d asked me first and I’d have picked out a cheaper simpler wine for him to drink). I told Bob about what my PCP said, and he said I could have an oz. or two of the Barolo tonight as my farewell to alcohol till July 16, just not tell my PCP. But that also means nothing but water or seltzer with our planned clambake/BBQ this weekend. Boo. Hiss.

Octo, congratulations on gaining a daughter-in-law! How fun!

Molly, I love the sign it fits right in here!

Sandy, wow, how rude for your PCP to stress you out with all your tests and then take your wine away. Well, I never! Good luck and keeping you in my prayers for all good results! In your pocket!

Thanks, Lori. He also said that at the latest AAFP convention, consensus was that there was a lack of evidence that CBD oil (at least the OTC strength) has any effect on anything but the wallet. Oh, well.

As promised, below is a graduation picture. It was a lovely day, and we're so proud of DS. Because NYC is a crazy place, the graduation was at Carnegie Hall and took just over three hours, including a solid hour (as best I can recall) of reading names as 800+ kids walked the stage. Many of the kids come from immigrant families--over half speak another language at home--and the diversity of backgrounds among the student body has always seemed remarkable to me. And because DS is in the band, he can now say that he played at Carnegie Hall! He's headed for Williams in the fall.

    And on other matters....

Iris, how'd the onc visit go?

Sandy, regarding red wine, this too shall pass. Or, quoting King George in Hamilton, "You'll be back...."

Cubbie, in your pocket for the ultrasound.

rainny, onc visit was sort of disturbing. Seems i should have heard back about my med and i have not. So phone calls on her end but pushy iris, well i called briova rx and spoke to someone. They have my script but it had landed in the wrong dept. Nurse promised to forward to correct dept for processing. Yikes as doc wants me on the med soon as possible

I also got call from the other provider optim rx and they said i was denied! I think that is because they do not provide it. So today is a nervous day as i get this staightened out. Guess this place is not as organized as my old place

Cubbie, that's infuriating! Your MO probably thinks it's just better to have the US and that will worry you less. At least it is a non-invasive test (though a messy one). Your pocket will be full and sticky, and I hope you get the result immediately. If not sooner.

Iris, good luck with organizing your care providers to, well, provide your care. So frustrating!

I thought about it last night and I think my MO's thought is that he would probably end up sending me there anyway to be sure, so he might as well just send me there directly. He is very cautious. It does leave me feeling like I have no idea how serious this is, though.

Thank you about the photo...he is so thrilled with himself.....he went through 2 years of post grad to earn his Master's Degree, while working full time in the financial district, and that is not a 9 to 5, job. its like 12 hour days.he is a V.P. at JP Morgan, and works his ass off.......he graduated from Northwestern with honors maintaining a 3.9GPA, and was annoyed because he missed the 4.0 ....REAlLLY .........

Didn't make it to Chicago to see him in person, but he sent me a link, and I had the best seat in the house...my family-room....would love to hve been there, but as yo know me and flying..I think my daughter has had it with me and planes...LOL....I never got asked to go.. hahah

Mazel tov, Rain & ducky! Williams is awesome. I too once played Carnegie Hall... only it was the one on the Carnegie-Mellon campus. (Great school too).

In your pocket for the ultrasound, Cubbie. As to my prospective imaging, if my hemoglobin stabilizes or rises a bit, my PCP says no need to repeat the upper endoscopy from 2013, which he interpreted as showing "minor gastritis." If it continues to drop after teetotaling and no NSAIDs, then maybe a capsule endoscopy. But I asked Bob what if it shows an AVM in the small intestine, and he said they don't operate or cauterize, just supplement with iron. My PCP says no need to move up the colonoscopy from 2021 unless I start getting symptoms or blood from the hemorrhoids shows up visible to the naked eye.

I am blowing this no-wine thing out of all proportion. I had to teetotal for six weeks after each knee replacement, till I was off both Norco and warfarin. And before my BC dx, Bob was on Flagyl for at least that long while they sorted out whether he needed surgery for the perforated colon (he did), and the night before he was allowed to start drinking again his hernia began to "incarcerate" so back to the OR and 10 more days of Flagyl (and 4 more of teetotaling afterward). So it's seltzer and maybe Arnold Palmers for awhile. Just serve them in a champagne flute or wine glass and I'll be fine
