    Bluefrog, fantastic news!!

I'm now one week PFC, and I've been in bed for that week. It sucks feeling this fatigued, especially when I thought I'd be done and *whoosh* I'd be back to normal. I'm determined to get up and take a walk today, cook dinner for the family, and maybe even do a few loads of laundry (exciting!). I feel better reading your posts and seeing that it's more likely to be 4-6 weeks until I'm feeling better...just in time for radiation. BUT! That's for then, and this is now, and I only have to figure out how to get that walk under my belt.

    Cheers!

I can confirm that disco dancing at the office Christmas party is a bad idea even 7 weeks post chemo. One is likely to awake with a feeling of being back on chemo all over again - very thick head, no sense of taste, no energy, only half alive etc.

Alternatively, being on chemo is actually rather like a constant post-party hangover...

(but at least I made it to the office party and onto the dance floor)

MsBrompton, good for you for getting down!

I had my first Herceptin-only infusion yesterday. Per everything I've read, I had the nurse run it over an hour instead of half an hour. So far, so good. Getting ready to travel tomorrow (for a week--way too long). . . . It was pretty weird (good weird) to be in the chair for an hour, not on steroids.

They didn't have the results of my echo, but I assume no news is good news.

Still trying to make a rads decision. I think I'm probably just gonna do it. I got through chemo; I can get through rads. . . . (Boy do I hope those don't turn out to be famous last words!)

    Happy weekend, everyone!

    Congratulations Bluefrog!!

MsBrompton: LOL at the image with disco ball office party. I also have office party this week. & I won the work space decoration contest AND the Dessert Contest.

Then yesterday I FINALLY have the Echo (it was scheduled about 8 wks ago!). Hope nothing come out from that....Also had the 6m Follow-Up with the surgeon. Did physical exam, All Clear. will have mammogram in 6m & see him again. Have we talked about recon before? He asked. Yes we have, but no thank you.

I had my first Herceptin-only infusion yesterday. It was a sad day because my new friend will finsh her last two Taxols over the next two weeks, so yesterday was our last infusion together. We will have rads at the same time, but little luck seeing each other then. We met 11 weeks ago when we both got Taxol for the first time. She had just finished AC and I was switching off Taxotere. Being young we were fast friends and have looked forward to days together. Of course, I bailed early on chemo and was gone for surgery, so really it wasn't that many days...

Saw the BS today for my post-op and got my path report. No cancer! None. Could not even measure margins because they did not have cancer cells to measure from! And despite how awful I feel, no thinks I am dying. My incisions are healing very nicely and so they send me on my way. PS wants me back in 2 weeks, but BS pushed it out to 6. BS did mention she will put in the referral to the RO in my MO's center. No rest for the wicked--oh, I mean, the weary.

    Musosgirl,

Those are such a wonderful news! Happy for you so very much! And it's great news for all of us!!!! You had a complete respond to chemo! That means so can we!

I remember when I just was diagnosed and told about the cancer, surgery and chemo.... She said I was stupid if I was planing to have a chemo, she was telling me about the Big Pharma making money by giving cancer patiates chemo, which is not really not working. I'm sure many of us had those friends who sugested quiting the chemo, right? But see!!!! It's working!!!!! Congratulations , Musosgirl! It gives so much hope for the rest of us. Thank you for sharing !

    Very happy for you!!!!

Agree Ruska. Survival from this sh*t isn't guaranteed but if we took our chemo like good patients we can look forward to being on the hopeful side of average. Congratulations musogirl and others who are receiving good news right now (I've missed a few messages as been back at work!).

I finished chemo Oct. 6. My eyebrows came back this past week! Very exciting but now my eyelashes have thinned. I read somewhere this could happen but was kind of hoping it wouldn't happen to me. I think I have 3 top lashes on each eye. This too shall pass....not feeling very photogenic this holiday.

    Hey everyone!,

i'm new to the Site, saw this thread and thought great! I finished 12 rounds of Chemo last Monday so am nearly 1 week on from 8 weeks of Taxol. Ive been bed ridden mostly the past week, the fatigue has been bad but the pain Im in is debilitating, in my lower back, legs and upper back neck and arms. Has anyone experienced this on Taxol??? Does it get better, physically am depleted and nobody really talks about how long it takes to recover??

I see my Oncologist end of January, in which I will be placed on a hormone tab as Chemo hrough me into menopause. I was on Tamoxifen since 2011 but had a recurrence worst luck in June, started Chemo in 3rd August. I can't get Radiation this time as I had it 4yrs ago, so have had another lumpectomy and clear wide margins and lymph nodes removed all clear too.

Love to hear from any of you beautiful ladies who experience pain..

Thanks heaps...the heat doesnt help either!!! its 104f here today, I'm in Australia.

    Melclarity, welcome!

I had quite a bit of bone pain (especially in my hips, lower back, and legs)on Taxotere, a drug closely related to Taxol. Definitely tell your doctor, and I hope you start to feel better soon! I had my last chemo on 11/25, and . . . no more bone pain. My muscles feel like I've just done a major workout (which I haven't done, not yet anyway), but I get better every day.

    Stay hydrated!

Melclarity, welcome to the party. I had been having muscle pain and weakness in my lower back and legs. I took taxotere. Mine showed up around my 4th of 6th infusion and has pretty much disappeared two weeks after number 6.

    Hi KateB79 and Ravensally!

Great to hear from you, oh yes bone pain, muscle pain and nerve pain, I've got the lot! Sounds like it does improve and can so resonate with having done a workout. I went to get a few things yesterday, I can't manage walking a shopping centre, my legs nearly give way, the fatigue is quite bad but Im only 1 week on. Ive also started to get numbness in the tip of my thumb, which he said could happen. Ive been in this pain all through 8 weeks of Taxol 5 out of 7 days, gosh I think its the thought that went through my mind that when you're in it doesnt feel like it will end or get better. My Oncologist has known of the pain all the way through and cant really take painkillers, best I can do is panadol osteo and nurofen together. I took an endone one night, was terrible made me so sick and did nothing for the pain. Can't take codeine really and tramadol makes me very sick, so options worst luck have been limited. My Vitamin D is a low 29 so hoping with supplements that will help too. :)

Im also hoping once my body realizes there's no more hospital it will start to get better YAY!!!! Thanks!!!! day at a time to feeling better sounds good to me.

Hello friends! I've been absent from the thread since mid November and wanted to check in. Such good news for some of us! I love hearing about those of you "dancing with NED" (a term I learned from my cancer survivor husband years ago).

My hair is returning, but it's not too dramatically different, since I never shaved my head or anything. Hubby told me this morning that I look a bit like a baby orangutan, LOL!

    image

So, my current status is, I've been finished with chemotherapy for about five weeks, and I've had two herceptin only treatments so far - third one coming up on Christmas Eve.

On the supplement front, I am taking Turkey Tail. My naturopath participated in research at the University of Washington that showed it is effective at improving the suppression of her2 positive cancer when combined with herceptin. I also take 20mg of melatonin every night, which I've read has been shown effective against breast cancer and is also fabulous for helping me sleep. It's time released so I stay asleep all night (pretty much - stress on other fronts tends to wake me up at 3:30 in the morning sometimes though).

One weird thing post-chemo for me has been the return of my appetite for sweets, particularly chocolate. During chemo I didn't care for it at all, which was strange for me. I think I'm enjoying it a little too much. Ha ha. Especially since what I really want to do is get into shape so that I can recover well from BMX and oophorectomy surgery, which will probably be coming up in early spring. (Time is flying!)

It's so good to read how everyone is doing. Happy Holidays to all!

Mom2aboy good to hear from you. Will you stop the turkey tail after the herceptin is done or does it continue? And what's the dosage? Im starting herceptin only next week.

Likewise ladies, this thread has been SUCH an important source of friendship, security and inspiration the past few months. We've been there for one another in the darkest days, sharing our struggles, quirky stories and occasional brighter news. Thanks to everyone for putting time into this community.

Off to peel the potatoes - my boys do all the rest of the cooking while husband and I go for a brisk* walk on Christmas morning!

    (* brisk - well, everything's relative)

Merry Christmas, everyone. Have been busy with church (of course!). The priest during Thanksgiving Mass said, "thanksgiving is good, but thanks-LIVING is better." And that's what I've been doing.

Had a wedding to attend 2 weeks ago (one more right after New Year). Last week at work we have "holiday party", festivities including workspace decoration contest (won 3rd place) & Dessert contest (won 1st place). And I have been preparing for Christmas Masses these past few weeks (I sing in one, & direct another). So it's going to be a loooong weekend for me. Had a choir party last night, & I made cabbage rolls. Oh, and I did my Christmas baking! -- albeit cheated a little - found a SCONES recipe that use melted butter, they turnt out pretty ok.

Oh the Scones has a story to it, too! So I named myself "Viktoria Charles" before chemo (as to female version of WorryWart's name, he's pretty much bald since his 20s, he has a nickname "Charlie brown"). I have been wearing church hat since August & some choir member said it's very "Downton Abbey". which made me think of Scones! So Viktoria decided that the only fitting Christmas treats would be Scones & lemon curd!! Nerdy

My family said it was ok to take my Santa's Elf toque off tonight if I was warm.. I was like...nooo I don't think so. You don't get to be the elf all that often... today is the day!

    Merry Christmas Ladies!
