Okay, I'm kind of geeky, but I want to go see the clogging show Riverdance. (I balance my science background with the arts. haha) The show is in LA in December 1-6th, but I'm not done with rads until Dec. 3. I know everyone is different, but if I have burns and sores and fatigue, would I even be able to drive to a show 1 1/2 hours away and sit through it? My husband says no, but this type of geeky show only comes once every few years to LA. My DH said, "There are lots of other shows. How about 'A Gentleman's Guide to Murder' in January?" LOL, What a title. Maybe he's worried about my complaining?

Get him to drive. I would think you are likely to be able to manage the show itself.

Sloan - Riverdance! Awesome geeky. These days, I am trying to do things that give me joy. Because that's really what it is all about :) So I say go for it, and if you don't feel like sitting through the whole show, then leave partway through, but go for it. And, yeah, ask DH to drive. And do Gentleman's Guide in January:)

Thanks Zinny and ksusan. Part of the dilemma is that my husband can't drive because he has RP. It's a genetic eye disease and he stopped driving about 5 years ago because he has no peripheral vision (but his central vision is 20/20). So, yeah, I'd have to drive. But, you're right Zinny, we'll see the other show in January!

Sloan: when's the cutoff date for you to decide? (when's the last date you can order tickets, or return them if you've already purchased them?)

I haven't been to Riverdance but I saw Lord of the Dance twice and loved it. I say go.

Queenmomcat - Hmmm, are you thinking see how week 3 or 4 goes and then decide? If so, that's a good idea. I want to get good seats so I can see the foot work and not just hear it --it's a dance show after all-- but maybe I can check out seats next weekend. Once I buy tickets, though, they are mine... I just don't know how I'll feel. The good news, though, is that my boys volunteered to cook for Thanksgiving! I think it will be a very important and loving act for them to take care of their mom. :)

Sloan15- Riverdance definatley one I would love to see too. For me the worst time was 1-2 weeks after the last RADS completed so am thinking you may nit be uo to driving that much. Maybe you will be at that window when the skin in not yet too tender and peeling. Sitting in place in a theater nay be too uncomfortable also but perhaps you can get standby tickets ( last minute) if your up to it. Hugs!

Sloan: pretty much yes--exactly that. If there's any way you can manage it, DO IT! The fact that I'm a fan of Riverdance/Lord of the Dance makes no never mind. Is this something that's gonna get YOU through rads?

I managed an opera one week post-Canadian protocol rads and 48 hours into what turned out to be an antibiotic resistant case of erysipelas, but that didn't involve a 3 hour RT drive on the day of the performance, nor was I facing skin issues. Just the fatigue. Could you manage to squeeze out the money for staying over at a hotel that night? Consider it a celebration of finishing rads!

hi all! Friday I finished #19 out of 30. I'm pretty red and swollen but I can tolerate that. However over the weekend my nipple Became very sensitive and painful. Last week the nurse mentioned a numbing cream. Think I'm going to be taking her up on that offer tomorrow!

JCtreehugger - that is great that you are in Beaver nation! are you in Corvallis - Willamette Valley area? The game was a lot of fun. The crowd was fun - and although Utah won - the Beavs held their own.

Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement and support for my isolation. I am definitely doing better. It was great having my DH here with me - and while he was here they got the wi-fi working, and dvd players installed - so now that he is gone - its much less lonely.

I've only had two treatments so far and haven't noticed any side effects yet. Hopefully, if I'm not too tired for the 3 hour drive - I'll be able to head home on Friday after rads for the weekend. I hope everyone had a great weekend and has smooth sailing for treatments this week! xoxo

Sloan, they’re telling me that I should be able to handle hosting Thanksgiving dinner (at a restaurant) 3 days after my 16th treatment. As for “Riverdance,” back in 1996 they showed it on PBS. I was recuperating in rehab from open-reduction/internal-fixation surgery after a car bumper shattered my leg. My roommate was a 62-yr-old nun who had just gotten her second set of knee replacements after 15 years. She was weightbearing and I was not. We shared the TV in our room. Every time the dancers jumped up & down, we reflexively winced and cried “OW!” Scared the nurses something awful.

Ltam, my RO recommended taping over my nipple during treatment to protect it. That has reduced any nipple pain I was having to almost none. You might ask about that.

I'm going to talk to RO about fatigue. It's really bad. Like I'm walking through molasses.

Trvler-Congrats! How many total? I am doing 30 :( 17 more to go here! TG for the weekends! How are you holding up?

Oh my goodness Georgie! You have to drive out of town for rad's? I cannot imagine! My rad office is maybe 10 minutes from work so I go on my lunch.

Just thought I would pop in. Hope everyone else is managing ok. Side effects here are of course, fatigue, and soreness. I have AWS on both sides as well.

    http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/side_effects...

Feels like I am sleeping on a freaking bolt at the cord origin point. Grrrr! My whole under boob area has been sore since BMX on 9/4, and now with the scar tissue and cording. bleh! SKin is doing ok, with the exception of the middle of my chest. Starting to feel very rough and dry and I am very loyal to my rad cream haha

    Hope everyone enjoys their day!!

Tresjolie: I can well imagine you've hit the "slogging through molasses" phase of treatment, and not any old molasses but January in Fairbanks stuff.

Chisandy: (laughs even as my own legs twinge in sympathy)

I am on 17 of 28 today. I realized that I am done with my bolus….bolae…what is the plural? Lol. I am hoping that maybe the rest won't be bad because I am done with those but I am not sure. I am starting to have some really annoying itching in that area. Its my chest/clavicle and that's where I had sunburns in the past. I think whoever said that about rads having more of a bad impact on your areas which were previously exposed to the sun might be right. My back isn't bothering me at all.

I tried that Blue Emu stuff last night for the first time and it seems pretty good. I will report back once I use it a few more times. Benedryl cream doesn't seem to help at all.

ChiSandy --great story about the OUCHES!

I'm on Day 11 of 30 treatments. I'm not red or sore or tired yet. I don't want to be "waiting for the other shoe to drop," so I'm going trying to stay positive and think, "Hey, I might be one of the lucky ones who only gets a mild sunburn after 30 treatments!" So, rather than say no to Riverdance, I all your ideas--thanks everyone!-- about getting tickets later on and staying the night in a hotel. Maybe I'll drive down early, check in and nap, and then go to the show that night. If I can't go, I guess the trade off is that I will be DONE two days after Thanksgiving!

Today was my last day! I got a certificate of completion that was a nice gesture. Hugged all of the techs I have had, they were really wonderful. So glad to be done with this portion of the journey.

    Hi Everyone,

After a few scheduling issues I am due to start rads...TODAY! I have a late appt for the first 2 weeks because they are really busy, and then I get some more favorable times.

I had my X-rays on Friday and got surprisingly emotional about it...after a mastectomy and a 16 rounds of chemo, I've had a few weeks "off" (if you don't count my Herceptin/Perjeta, but that's every 3 weeks which seems like nothing after doing DD AC and weekly Taxol!), so going in and getting the x-rays and knowing that rads was about to start really bummed me out (in a "here we go again" type of way, not because of anything in particular about rads). Luckily Halloween cheered me up a bit and now I'm ready to dive in.

To the Radiation Gods: please don't let me burn to a crisp! ;)

Magnolia, right behind you! Going in tomorrow for the X-rays/simulation. They say they need a couple of weeks to do the physics (Whatever that means. I accused the resident of picking a specialty that allows geeking out with lots of math and vectors and stuff. He grinned.).

I know what you mean. I have somewhat enjoyed this "holiday" from treatment while I've healed from surgery. The only real treatment has been the Herceptin/Perjeta every third week. Still, I keep telling myself that on the other side of radiation is, if I'm fortunate, the chance to move on without constant treatment. Fingers crossed. Bring on the rads.
