Great pic! I think Merlin was probably secretly proud that you consented to be in his selfie :)

Last night the shelter took in a Mom and 7 kittens. Naturally they were named after Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. All black or with a little bit of white. Not quite 2 lbs which is the criteria for spay/neuter surgery so they may be there next Friday to play with. I heard a man come in asking about a opossum. I suppose he was from Paws, the wildlife rescue. Then I heard Mom and kittens were trapped along with a opossum, so I assume it was the same one.

I love that! I told my cousin, who has doggies, what having a cat is like: constantly asking “how did you get there?”

Last night I couldn’t sleep, found the cat, and set her on top of my chest and basically wore her for a while. The only sleep I got!

Foster cat (gray) and mine (black) pretending they like each other enough to share a sunny window. Both are half on the table and half on the window sill so there's enough room between for them to get along.

My Snickers can be absolutely nowhere in the house - not in any of her favorite haunts, not under a bed, not behind anything............and then miraculously she appears out of nowhere and says "what? I was right here the whole time, dummy!!" So can anyone tell me - where do they go???

Yeah, I 'm going with that time portal thingy. Cats can occupy a different point on the time space continuum whenever they feel like it. Nerdy

Either that or they are shape shifters and turn their appearance into something else entirely. Japanese in the 16th and 17th centuries believed they could do that.

Yeah. Merlin will be MIA and I’ve looked EVERYWHERE for him then there he is, looking at me like I’m stupid for looking and calling all over the house. “What? Did you call me? I was right here behind you.” Little turke

I do love the shape shifter theory but there's one problem with that in our house. Snickers has the typical build of a Maine Coon - very broad shoulders and the thickest fur you can imagine. So I have no idea what she would morph into. Maybe a big overstuffed chair? Might work.

Ladies you are a riot. Wish we could all sit in a bar somewhere together! And my next little feline will be a little black cat again. I miss my Lucy cat, who I lost a month after my BMx. In fact, I swear she is one of the reasons we caught my cancer. After being cleared on my mammogram in March, she inexplicably took to sleeping nestled in the crook of my arm on my right side , head pillowed on my shoulder, with her two front paws draped across my chest pointing to my left boob where the cancer was. She had never slept on me that way. And somehow she communicated to me that I was in trouble. She will always have my heart, that little black cat.

According to I'net Aug 17th is Black Cat Appreciation Day, so we have only missed it by 2 months. HOORAY for Black Cats everywhere.

Rah - Holy Cow! I just realized that my Snickers pretty much did the same thing with me before I was diagnosed last year! I couldn't figure out why she would stretch her paws up over my boob to my collarbone on that side. I guess now I know why. I'll keep her around!

She would probably call me the food truck. Or something I wouldn't want to post in public.

DS says Elliott would call us "The Terrors" (he's easily startled)

Arthur would call us .....(long drawl) "aaaawwlright" (pause) "....ish"

I think my cats would call me "poor thing"---as in, poor thing, she can't just leap up to areas four times her height; sooo unflexible, we've never seen her sleep with her feet up by her head; thinks she needs "water" to keep clean, can't even manage to lick herself clean; has to wear strange draperies all over her body because of her unsightly lack of fur; we won't even go into her lack of a nice tail and whiskers ( so embarrassing for her)....

So we are dogsitting for a friend's extremely laid-back and docile black lab/greyhound mix. She's about 4. She was raised with a cat (but doesn't have one now) and our Snickers Maine Coon was raised with dogs. We have had her - with no other pets - for about 10 years. Can you say Princess?? Anyway, the dog is here and she's very possessive of me. Any time the cat even thinks about going near her, she lunges and bears her teeth. So we have kept them separated because I'm afraid she will hurt the cat. The dog has been here for afternoons before and they just kept their distance from each other. DH says leave them alone and they wil work it out. But we have the dog for a week and I don't want anything to happen. So anyone have advice?? Help!!!
