A sweet cartoon about shelter cats: breakingcatnews.com then select special reports. I wish we could put it up at the shelter.

This might cheer you up, Donna! It's a copy of a post from Kitten Inn. Note that to get from the River to Kitten Inn, it's up a huge, long, very steep hill. So it's not just 4 km in length, it's probably a km or so in height too.

It does your heart good to know that there are young people out there that will continue on after us...
Yesterday three young teenagers turned up at my place with this little tot wrapped up in one of their hoodies.
They had been down at the River and saw this poor little soul floating past on top of a log. Not only did they jump into the river to rescue the little kitten but they also then walked over 4km to bring it to me.
When they arrived at my door they said "We knew this was where you take all the kittens no one else wants"
How it came to be on a log floating down the river we will never know, what we do know is that it is now safe, warm and its little tummy is full and for him at least life is lookin good.
I would like to thank Sarah, Lilly and David again, I hope your parents know they did a fantastic job.

Two of the four latest arrivals - she had a tabby and another ginger kitten after this was taken. There's a little torti tucked in there if you look closely.

Wonderful story about Storm Ruthbru and such a great pic of the perilous position of your other cats! Wonderful that you found the ideal home.

Kiwi - does the heart good just as you said. Fantastic.

The local paper picked up the story about "Woody" - the kitten on the log in the river:

    Hopefully the link works!

What a sweet story. I'm glad Woody was found - and she's right about him being totally unable to get in that position by himself.

Woody has been put in with one of the mom cats at KI and she's taken him right into the fold. Here he is lining up for lunch! He's the black one, 2nd from the right. How much cute can you stand?

KiwiCatMom, thank you for that wonderful story about Woody. Such a sweet wee one! It breaks my heart to imagine how he ended up on that log, but so thankful those caring teenagers came at the right time and rescued him!

HeartHugs to the rescuers and to the busy volunteers at Kitten Inn :))

Those baby faces and little ears! :) The little torti mom cat I posted a while back has taken Woody on. Sadly, one of her babies passed away, but she accepted Woody with no drama whatsoever. The other kittens weren't thrilled for about the first 30 minutes, but they're all good now.

Terre, I think it's a wonderful ending to a sad story, but I can't help but wonder how on earth this kitten got onto a log. I hope that there wasn't more kittens out there.... :( But I am very glad to hear that the tortie mom took him in. I just love torties. Thanks for posting these stories & pictures. Cheers, Dee

Woody and his step-kittens. The black and white one is huge! From the same litter as the rest (except Woody) and like double the size. Got to see them all last night; most of them are fluffy.Woody is the black on in the centre.

Smaarty, hope everything is ok with Tinker? I always get a little concerned too when one of our pets starts acting differently for no apparent reason. They really are like our kids!

Thanks Sas for the BCO post, good reminder.

Kiwi, soooo sweet! Woody fits in perfectly with his new family :))

not a great picture but a rare moment all the kitties are tolerating each other. It didn't last long. Dusty follows Starkist around constantly but Ralph doesn't care for Dusty much. Must be a guy thing.

Spookie- total good timing. Waiting to fly to the south island in gale force winds. 160 km/hr. About a cat3. ☺

Landed safely but people were screaming. A flight attendant threw up. Everyone cheered when we landed. We were on a small plane and it was beyond bumpy. Winds only 150 km/hr not 160 though. ☺
