It is certainly going to be fun to see how Princess and Grace take to the new puppy we will be bringing home later this week.

My neighbors and I both catch and spay/neuter any cats that we can. They had caught a mostly white cat that had prowled around for several years and named him Whitey Bulgar (after the gangster). We had seen him often but always at a distance and had marveled at his ability to survive mainly due to his color.

Whitey has taken up residence in the rocking chair on my back porch where I was feeding the stray black cat I had spayed. He has turned out to be a very sweet kitty. He wants his independence but truly enjoys being fed morning and night. Typical gangster style he lets the ladies eat first, then he partakes. Then he settles in for the comfy nap.

You might remember my DIL's kitty, Leo, who's been peeing in the house (almost certainly to protest the invader baby). We'd offered to take him even though it would involve a road trip from Kansas City to Nashville, and we were clear if he peed in our house, we'd have to either return him or rehome him. In the meantime, she made some changes and fingers crossed, things have improved.

Ultimately we also decided that the bonded pair available through our local SPCA wasn't for us as four indoor kitties is a whole lot of fur, cat, etc. in our modest ranch home.

I've still been looking at the SPCA's site and emailed them yesterday about two different females: one's owner died, the other's went into assisted living--that kitty is so stressed and visibly sad in the photos that it broke my heart. They responded and said the first kitty needs to be the only pet, so that's out. And although they didn't say it, the second kitty is so incredibly stressed that coming into a home with two cats would probably be awful for her.

They suggested we look at two other kitties, so hopefully they'll call today with an appointment time for us as we're interested and would like to meet them.

This is Quinn, and this is Delilah.

My top priority is to not stress any of the cats out, not the ones I have or one we might bring into the home.

petite1: Your cat looks so much like one of mine. Her name is Smudge due to a black smudge on her otherwise white chin. She is a rescue and was named "Alice" when we got her but she was in no way an Alice. She is no small girl and at her last weigh in was over 15 lb. She is overweight and while on food restriction still managed to gain weight. I cannot leave any food around or it is hers. She is the boss of the other 2.

Princess did a most unexpected thing today. I was just sitting in my recliner reading with my feet up and she jumps up in my lap and laid down while I gave her chin scratches.

Bengals are so cool. We had one at the shelter that would get on the exercise wheel and run for 15 minutes at a time.

Oh! Those Bengal kitties how beautiful!

Edj3 good luck on the adoption. Quinn looks like a bit sweetie. Delilah looks like she will rule the nest.

edj3: Tough decision as to which kitty to choose. They are both beautiful and in need of a good home. My one cat was rehomed/abandoned 3 times before he came here to his forever home. He is "spooky" as a result and for the first year he was here, my children only ever got to see his butt as he beat a hasty retreat. When I met him, we were in the same room but he played keep away until he decided my lap was inviting and I was "his". He climbed on my lap and came home with me about an hour later. He is still only my cat.

Good luck with making a decision as to which will complete your family.

So far the girls are curious but keeping their distance with their new puppy brother, Nugget. They either hiss and growl at him or they run. They kept going up to his crate last night which I think is a good sign so far.

Good morning, cat lovers. Midnight Louie woke me up too early, so I might as well start the laundry. Felix is still asleep.

They creep up to his crate while he is napping and sniff before they walk away. He went up to Princess and she hissed and swatted at him a couple of times. Grace is still a bit afraid of him. Fingers crossed that they all get along.

He’s my grandkitten. DD got him because her other cat that was about a year old was very rambunctious and that’s putting it mildly. Tootsie definitely has a calming effect on Charlie.
