@petite1 - When my elderly gentleman of a cat started having the same issues even a shallow litter box, I bought puppy training pads (XL) and placed them right in front of his box. They are thin absorbent pads that are lined on the bottom against leaking. I can attest they work well and cost about $15 - 20'ish for 50 pads. Easy to fold corners over on itself to pick up and dispose. It saved us both some grace. You can use more than one pad, just overlap them so if they either go more than once before you can pick them up (or hit the edge) the second will catch and absorb.

Petite how about using a disposable foil cookie sheet pan as the litter box (even shallower!) in addition to the puppy pee pads surrounding. Poor dear old Miss Felix. She is a lucky kitty to have you caring for her.

Petite, I take petsit for 2 cats who use puppy pads and they work really well. One is a very old (20+ years) and the other only sometimes uses them.

We used the puppy pads with our foster hospice kitty who had renal failure. He would get in a low litterbox but would flood it. We spent so much money on litter those last 6 months. We had a foster cat who could get in the litterbox just fine but would scratch wildly when he was done. We put the litterbox inside a plastic under the bed box which helped tremendously.

Good morning, cat lover. Louie is such a Florida cat. It's 60 degrees and he thinks he is freezing.

Princess and Grace are still in adjustment phase to their puppy brother. Princess seems more at ease with him until wants to play. Grace is staying as far from him as possible. She no longer hides in our bedroom but pretty much wants nothing to do with him. She hisses, growls and swats if he gets close to her. Although she did resume her curling up on my side of the bed the last couple of nights.

Good morning, cat ladies. It is 57 degrees. Louie doesn't even want breakfast. He wants to snuggle. Miss Felix never misses a meal.

It's slow going. Wednesday, we had the girls in their kennel and let the boys come in. As I expected, Eddie was curious and Wally hissed and growled at them. Poor girls were super scared, all the way in the back of the kennel with tiny little meows. Then yesterday we did it again, only Wally didn't come in. Eddie was still just curious and the girls were still pretty nervous. We're in no hurry, we'll take as much time as they all need to get comfy or at least to the point of tolerance with each other.

Good morning, Cat Lovers. Midnight Louie, the great hunter, got a lizard on the back porch. I was not able to rescue it because it ran under the refrigerator. Louie hunted for hours. I don't think he ever found it.

Grace is getting more curious about her puppy brother. If I am cuddling him on my side of the bed, she jumps up on the bed and gets as close as she feels comfortable before he takes notice of her.

    feelingfeline:

My mom brought home a kitten when I first started college and he would lay next to me on the dining room table as I did my homework. Occasionally I would take a break and then walk back in to the room to find my pencil/pen missing. I thought I was loosing my mind until we had to move a year later and the movers moved the China cabinet behind where I sat at the table and we discovered a trove of pens and pencils that the cat had rolled under it when I left the room.

We did some more very careful socializing this weekend.

Yesterday we let Eddie (big cat in the photo) into the room, closed the door and let the kittens go (we were holding them). He did pretty well but got so nervous he threw up. But on the good side, the vet has prescribed an anti-anxiety med we'll rub in each boy's ear twice a day. That should help as they've both puked from nerves, poor kitties.

WC3, I had a necklace among the missing for years and found it under the chest of drawers while having new flooring put in. It is all part of their cat games. LOL

FF, she was hoarding during the shut down.

edj3, Love the picture. Hope everyone soon gets along without puking. LOL

Poor Eddie! I hope the anti anxiety meds help because it sure looks like those two are going to get to know him one way or another. Kittens are just so dang cute.
