Yes, first thing many a cat will need to do is run and hide after being let out of the carrier following the trauma of a vet visit. Much as we would love them to come to us for shelter, it is instinct to hide. Out of Fight or Flight response the average cat's first preference is flight if at all possible.

I didn’t know if it was trauma from the appointment or a reaction to the meds. My dogs get over it fast. Give them a treat, all forgotten. He’s acting fairly normal this morning so I guess he’s ok

Introducing Jeter. He is suave and debonair. Skilled at catching mice in the basement and bringing them upstairs to play.

Wren, is syringe feeding an option with Squeakers' condition? One of my cats stopped eating after dental work and got fatty liver, which was taking him down. The vet basically offered hospitalization or euthanasia. Not willing to accept that without another opinion, I took him to another vet and explained our financial limitations. That vet gave the cat meds and fluids, and — this is the important part — showed us how to feed him with a syringe at home. I made a slurry of special canned cat food and water, and fed him every few hours 'round the clock. I think it took him about a week to resume eating on his own. He has had two more bouts over the years, but has pulled through and is currently doing great. It can be pretty tiring. The last one, I was not feeling strong and couldn't have done it without help from family. Also the first time the vet showed DH how to give additional iv fluids at home. The other times I took him back and had the vet do it. We used mirtazapine to help him start eating on his ownagain.

Petite, your Midnight Louie is a favorite of mine. He is Trouble with a capital T.

Shetland Pony, Our vet wanted to hospitalize Squeakers at the emergency vet. That is just out of reach financially (he was there 5 hours and it was $700). Yesterday we started force feeding with watered down food via syringe. This morning he ate 1/2 serving of Sheba pate and we plan to feed him 4 x day. He took it pretty well; or maybe I'm getting better at it. We're doing Mirtazapine in his ear, nose drops and fluids. At least we don't have to do insulin until he's eating and has high blood sugar again. Yesterday his back legs were wobbly but that seems better today. Please keep on crossing paws.

Jetcat - what a beautiful boy! And so generous, too, bringing the mice upstairs to play haha

    RIP Squeakers.

He just crashed despite all our efforts. We all felt like there was something major wrong that we hadn't found yet. He was around 12 years old. The vet doubted he would have lasted through the weekend. We are heartbroken of course.

Wren -- So sorry about Squeakers. We love our pets so much and they bring up so much joy yet their time with us is way too short. Remember the good times you and Squeakers had and the joy you brought to his life as well.

My vet once told me that cats will hide illness until close to the end. It happened with one of my cats and I am so sorry to read about Squeakers. He was beautiful and was fortunate to have shared his life with such a caring individual.

Wren, so sorry about Squeakers. He's with all of our furbabies that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I'll ask my boys Charcoal and Jackson to be his friends.

Sorry to hear about squeakers. I know our miss daisy may not be around as long as we would like due to her kidney disease so we enjoy her and love her all the time.
