Kiwi, that's funny about your cat being an All Blacks fan. DS had two cats in Japan that would sit and watch the Boston Red Socks (he had satellite TV and would tape the games).

Love it, Kathindc! I had a cat in the US (he lived to be 19) who loved basketball. Moppet loves rugby; just happened to get a shot of her with the All Blacks celebrating their world cup win. :) She likes soccer too. Must have been patient cats your DS had to watch baseball. :)

Kiwi, yes baseball is just half a step up from watching golf. I think I feel myself growing old watching them. I like rugby over football. I takes a very brave man to play rugby - you go down and they play around you, yikes. Worked with a young lady a few years back that was in a female league. Always came in on Mondays with cuts, bruises and sprains.

Love those kitties, Teka! Glad there's a truce. I bought a cat bed like the one you have - got it for $5 at an op shop! There aren't fights over it, but occupancy does seem to rotate. Currently, Lucypurr has claimed it.

Latest rescue kitten, having a snooze with DH while we wait for the traffic to clear a bit (holiday traffic). Going to meet another volunteer 1/2 way to Kitten Inn and do the swap. Assuming DH decides to let her leave. :) She's super cute, soft, and friendly.

The shelter has a hyperactive black & white kitten. Fun to play with, but don't try the 2nd pet! One of the officers said he had come into the room to give a cat medication, but didn't know which cat. He looked at the kitten and she went into fight mode, fluffing and looking bigger and doing the sideways intimidation. Then back to the back of the cage saying, come on, I'm ready, let's fight. It was so funny, because the officer had the moves down pat. He said he was very happy that a different cat needed the meds.

Loving the pictures. That is a beauty on Tom! (Of course there are no ugly cats).

I bought one of those hooded cat beds thinking Arthur would love it as I hadn't yet met the cat who wouldn't love one ............ I have now.

It cost €15 and it is sitting in the understairs cupboard going nowhere except maybe the parish fete. Sad

Arthur is just not a "people person". He's one of those cats that people-who-don't-like-cats think all cats are like. WE worship him nonetheless.

Arthur is so beautiful. I have a friend who has a facebook page for her royal highness Claudette. She looks like Arthur, without the white paws, and she exists solely so people may worship her. :)

FF, Arthur is beautiful. I would leave the bed out & let him think it was his idea! :)

Terre, I N.E.E.D. that kitten... OMG, she is beautiful. Did your DH let her go?

Logang, I love kitties that love to have their tummies rubbed.

Thanks everyone for posting their pics! I love this thread even though I have nothing to contribute. GG

Bigsby is beautiful! What a chilled kitty!

Dee - we did let the kitten go to Kitten Inn for adoption. She'll go quickly - she's super sweet and stunning markings. Someone on Facebook accused me of photoshopping her because she has a typical tabby head and then these amazing swirls and stripes on her body. She has a perfect racing stripe down the middle of her back. My DH was tempted to keep her (so was I!), but one of our older cats, Lucypurr, is not coping well with the kittens we have. She is just grumpy and occasionally hissy. They all eat together, and they don't fight. But she's grumpy. It was hard to take the kitten to Kitten Inn, though!

And Dee - you contribute adoration for our dear moggies, which is a great contribution! :)

I don't have any cat pictures. I don't have a cat, Yet. I want a cat!!! We have a little prince, Louie,a chiuahua-whippet mix  and my dear spouse is not onboard with adding a cat because of the cat box. We just  returned from visiting friends who co-parent an abandoned cat, Buddy, with a neighbor. Buddy is outdoors durning he day but when it's cold outside he sleeps in the neighbor's house. The neighbor travels during the winter so we stay at her  place with Buddy. Any advice on how to convince dear spouse about a cat? And how to introduce a cat to the little prince?

How is your dog with other dogs? Does he go to dog parks to play? Does he bark a lot? If he's pretty mellow and you find a cat who has lived with dogs and introduce them slowly, it can go well. We have had both together and never had a problem. There is a lot of info on how to introduce them. You might see what the vet thinks next time he goes for a checkup.

The cat box needs to be scooped daily at least. We have a foster cat on cage rest and have been scooping his box along with our cat's box twice a day. I have seen cat boxes that are "self cleaning" but they cost a lot. I suppose eventually someone has to deal with the product the box has cleaned out.

The shelter where I volunteer has a foster program. The shelter owns the cat and pays medical bills; the foster parents provide food and litter. It's a way to try out owning a cat without committing to something that might not work out. If it doesn't go well, we can transfer the cat to another foster home or return the cat to the shelter. That might be a way to see if he would change his mind with experience.

The dynamics can be pretty funny. A big orange tabby was surrendered to the shelter because "he was intimidating the golden-doodle". We imagined some funny scenes with the cat managing the great big dog. Cats can be jerks, so I'm sure the dog was glad to see him go.

Thanks, Wren! Louie is fine with most dogs not so much with one german shepherd in our neighborhood and select white fluffy dogs who look like bishons. One went for him once so they are now all suspect. He does fine in doggy day care but he is a barker at all of the nefarious goings on outside the door.  Fostering seems like the trial solution for both Louie and his other mom. You had me lol at your description of how the dynamics can go.

"A big orange tabby was surrendered to the shelter because "he was intimidating the golden-doodle"

That's funny. When our cat was a kitten, we took her up to visit with some folks for the weekend. They had their son's kitten there & their big german shepard. We got home from dinner, the 2 kittens were sound asleep in the gigantic dog bed & the poor dog was asleep on the floor. Our friends told us that the dog sleep on his bed "all the time" We would have loved to see how these 2 tiny kittens managed to keep the dog out.

Terre, I would be surprised if that kitten lasted the day, she is so beautiful & looks so loving sleeping on DH's chest, priceless.

    Logang welcome to the gang!

    Bigsby ThumbsUpThumbsUpThumbsUpHeart

Kath so agree those sayings are true. I would only make one tiny amendment

Dogs believe they are human. Cats know they are divine Nerdy

Intothewood my experience was that the cat convinced DH after the event. You would do well to have a starving stray show up on the doorstep, one that in all humanity you would have to take inWinking

GG I agree about the bed and Arthur, that was what I hoped but eventually I just got sick of it sitting around unused gathering dust. Tried putting it on his fav sleeping chair and he took to sleeping on the floor instead. Sad

If you have a skittish older pet, I think maybe a kitten works older than adopting an older cat.....that way the older pet is 'the boss', and the younger animal rather looks up to its elder. That is what I've found anyway.

As to the reluctant husband, I wouldn't say this anyplace but here (and shame on me for suggesting it) but.....you could use the 'cancer card'......"after all I've been through, this is the one thing that would really make me happy" etc. etc. Once the cat is in the house, it wouldn't surprise me if your DH will quickly become a cat lover as well!

Thanks to all you cat ladies for advising an interloper to your thread
ruthbru, I actually thought of the cancer card myself- so bad!  :-)
I'll be lurking and enjoying your amazing photos and maybe I'll be back posting my own.
    Happy Sunday,
