They are cute, aren't they? People use them in the vineyards here because they aren't tall enough to grab the grape leaves. And they're cute!
Is your Himmie dumb as a rock? Ours is. My mom had one who wasn't too sharp either. Here's my Christmas photo . . . he was not happy. And he's not show worthy either, but he's loveable.

Sorry I touched a nerve that you obviously care so much & are so passionate about. Almost anyone I have come across that is into animal rescue has the same passion as you do!
We have the same problems here with people who want to show their kids the "miracle" of life & let their animals breed indiscriminately. I didn't realize the KI only took momma's and babies, but I'm glad that you took that fellow's older kitty, what a wonderful story & bless those people.I had a friend just pass away & her greatest fear was that her older kitty would be taken to be put down, I assured her that her kitty would always have a home here if it came down to that.
I greatly admire your fortitude of being able to go there every week & not bring home every cat & kitten there.
I also had a purebred himmie who wasn't up to snuff for breeding. He was a good cat, but the cat in my avatar was the best cat ever, it will be our third Christmas without her & I still walk in the house expecting her to greet me.

Kiwimom- He falls out of his litter box and falls off the cat tree. however he has learned how to use the hardwood floors to his advantage and "drifts" corners
also Im pretty sure hes part dog. He follows me around, gives kisses when prompted, 
crosses his front paws and doesnt hang on when you pick him up. 150% trust .. he was purring in these pictures

Don't apologise, Dee. I'm so totally not upset with you! I should apologise for going on a rant and preaching to the converted. It's been a rough week cat-rescue-wise. Just so many ignorant people out there and it's peak kitten season, so is to be expected. But I get to rescue 7 kittens and 2 moms today, so that's good.
Just waiting for one batch to arrive.So hard to lose them, Dee. Especially the really special ones. I had a ragdoll who was my soul mate kitty and I still miss her almost 10 years on. Sending hugs.

Dee - if it EVER stops raining, I will take pictures. Of course, since all it does is rain, the yard is out of control...knee high grass and weeds. It is so fantastic though, because it's ours.

Oh my goodness that is an enormous cat! I love the stories of kitten Inn. i think what they do sounds very like Salem Friends of Felines a no kill rescue center here in town.We have adopted 2 cats from them. Our other 2 are from the SPCA. People don't realize the number of animals and the lack of homes. I have many animals and all have been fixed. I think they live longer.Mr.Higgins was 12 when he passed from kidney failure. Daisy was 16 kidney failure. (Now I have Percy age 15 on thyroid meds, Zoey aged 12 toothless on special diet, Emmy aged 8 healthy) Our dogs have done well our terrier mix Flower lived to be 18. We did lose our daughters service dog a Golden to kidney cancer at age 12. Then our border collie mix died of lymphoma at age 12. Wish they could have lived longer. Right now we have a border collie aged 11 and a terrier mix age 5. Full house of critters.

We had one who would jump the table to get to my cereal. If I moved the bowl, he would try to get his paw in the bowl and pull it over so he could get the milk.

Pantrah my late Beastie was nicknamed "the fastest claw in the west". She had a penchant for taking flying leaps from high cupboards onto the back and shoulders of someone eating cereal which usually meant she landed with her head in the bowl - mission accomplished. She could also stick a claw out of nowhere while a pizza was being transported from oven to table and hook the entire topping off - straight to the floor - mission accomplished

OMG thats awesome! for a while i had to eat away from all tables and perch-able edges.. which left me standing in the center of the living room. Willow has this ability to know when i have 2 bites left and then tries to move in to get the milk. Binx.. has no idea whats going on so he just watches. however If I eat ritz crackers or popcorn... they both lose their minds

KiwiCatMom, I absolutely loved your story of the 'old' cat. One of mine lived to the age of 16, and it was only in his last year of life that his health declined: apart from the worn teeth, there were no signs of ageing before.
A lady I knew once looked after a pregnant feral cat, who had selected her cellar to give birth. Unfortunately, she was unable to catch her and have her neutered, but she got her 3 kittens to move in with her (she adopted all 3 of them, as she only had 2 cats of her own). She gave the little female the pill, as she wanted to wait until she had grown a bit to have her neutered... and she became pregnant at age 6 months! She gave birth to 3 kitten of her own, quite a performance considering how tiny she was, and how much bigger than her the kitten soon grew, especially one of the little males. That lady kept the smaller and spookier of the two, found a home for the other one, and we adopted the little female. Both generations (6 cats in total) were neutered, so no more kitten, but you can easily see how quickly they can multiply!

my old lady cat.. at 21.. walked slow.. didnt jump really...UNTIL there was turkey or bacon.. not sandwich meat but carved turkey ... she would stand up and try to pull the meat out of the other side of the sandwich!! and she would do the same with bacon!! So I Knew she had some spunk left in her

Our tortie went crazy for plain cake donuts. And I do mean crazy, like catnip crazy only worse! There must have been something to the cinnamon/nutmeg combo that she was just wild for.

I had a cat who loved to eat GREEN BEANS....he would sit in the garden and just munch them right off the vine....if you picked some and brought them in, you'd have to put a couple in his bowl or he'd jump up on the counter to get at them!

We had a cat who liked peas. We were in Alaska, so they were frozen cooked peas. I don't know what she would have thought about fresh ones. Another liked bread and would eat it still wrapped from the corner out, which ruined the maximum number of slices. One liked corn on the cob and would make the little kill noise over it. We thought she liked the butter we put on it until she started shucking it and eating it raw.
Our shelter's daily team lead does a report for the other team leads so we know who's there and who needs extra attention. A newcomer on the Thursday report was "4mo old purr machine". On Friday I looked at him and he started purring. What a sweetheart!
We also had a very large orange tabby surrendered for adoption because "he dominated the golden doodle" who must have been 3 x the cat's size. We all laughed about it. He was adopted quickly.
One of the shelter volunteers wore a shirt that said "sexless in Seattle until every cat has a home". It was from the feral spay and neuter project.

Re the cats who like vegetables, my BF from school days has a cat who LOVES mushroom peelings. If she is cooking with mushrooms he sits on the counter and eats up the peelings. That was the strangest feline preference I have seen.

Love the food preferences! Romeo likes peaches and strawberry jello. Prefers the peaches in the jello.
Just brought home five flea ridden one week old bubs who's mom has disappeared. Getting them to foster care in the morning. Every two hour feedings tonight. And tomorrow's Monday here! Told my boss I'd be late and tired.
