Cats, cats, cats

The TNR group here had a shirt that said "sexless in Seattle until every cat has a home". We have an organization, Alley Cat Project, that will take ferals from the shelter and find new homes for them. A fair number tame down and are adopted.

Ouch, Duane!
I know most say ferals can't be domesticated but I've noticed that when you feed them long enough they want to wrap around you or want to come into the house. They are definitely not as skittish of the ones who show kindness. Good th hear it is possible. A few years back, a feral seemed to have sprained a leg. We called animal rescue and they would not come out because the cat was feral. I thought that was cruel. Not too long after that a neighbor friend and started feeding them. Turns out that at least five houses feed them. The vet in the Washinton Post is completely against that.
Here is Guard Cat doing his thing at my front door.
Sorry for the size. Can't figure out how to downsize on the iPad.

The first domesticated cats were ferals!!
As FarmerLucy mentioned about Duane, some cats living on their wits are strays rather than born feral.
I'm with you Kath!
Kindness is never wasted.

Love the logo for SNIP International. I feel sorry for poor Duane, he's been in the trap now for 18 hours. I guess I'll take him to my regular vet instead of the spay/neuter clinic since it is open early and closer. Looks like Guard Cat has double tipped ears. Does the Washington Post vet not like feeding strays because it allows them to be healthier and propagate?

Yes, somehow he got double tipped. The Post vet is against feeding them because they carry toxoplasmosis and toxocariasis. During the past two summers the female scratches herself raw around her ears and on her nose. Once last summer I saw her scratch herself and a dark cloud rose above her neck. Only time I've seen that happen so I figured she gets fleas real bad. The males she hangs with don't seem to be affected the same way. Trying to figure out a way to get flea spray on her without causing trauma. Also noticed when she came back from her neutering and abortion that she had worms. Periodically I see her passing one so I put over the counter deworming drops on the soft food I put out. It's hard to tell how much she gets as the food is initially consumed by her and Guard Cat followed by Big Boy and there is a shy cat that comes as well. I'm lucky my neighbor feeds several different cats and an opossum or two.

I read a blog called breakingcatnews.com. It's 3 cats who have a news program. The woman had a baby and the cats' reactions were really cute. One had that 'I'll protect you all your life' reaction.

This is Stevie. He's a foster fail (not mine!). He's been back at Kitten Inn this week waiting to be desexed, and his "mom" messages constantly for updates. So, Susan, who runs Kitten Inn, decided to torture "mom" a bit. Stevie is back from the vet but "mom" had to work late tonight. So Susan has been posting these pictures.
He is fine; he's a bit of a goofball kitten and super mellow and snuggly. At any rate, he's cute as in a dress!

O.M.G! Terre! Stevie is the cutest little boy in a dress! Love your KI updates. Hope you're doing well. Cheers, de

After several posts about Stevie, he's home and his new owners said "he's free of cross-dressing hell". So that led to another conversation, which led to:

Oh my, too funny!
Reminded me of the time when a girlfriend of DS found two kittens who had wandered away from their mom. She took them to the vet who proclaimed the small one as male and the larger one female. Turned out "Chloe" was a big tom and the alpha male.

Those pics of Stevie are so funny!

So funny! I had no idea such cute dresses existed for kittens.

Think VERY small dogs. Spookie is 8#, wears a size S. There are smaller sizes.

Those are actually doll dresses. Stevie was still slightly stoned from being out when he was neutered. He is a mellow little dude even without being stoned. Apparently he just went limp and didn't fight being dressed up at all.

Awww Stevie. What a good sport.

love it! But queenmomcat how DID you come up with those names?

After a great deal of thought, and getting to know the cats.
IDK what their Cat names are but their 'real' Human names are: Zasu Kitts and Bongo, though I'll often call him Pete (after Jsmes Dean's "Pete the Cat" picture books) Bongo considers me his human, while Zasu owns my husband.

I'm 92% sure I posted this one already....but someone else asked in a non-cat forum.

Muffy: "Do you have this in a 7.5 narrow?"
Feelingfeline: one of Bongo's early nicknames was M'sieu Poirot-nouveau.

Muffy is one of our four cat babies, along with Quincy, Leo, and JJ. Breakfast in my house is hilarious as each cat gets a different wet food - kitten, adult, senior and urinary. Trying to keep each eating from the right bowl is FUN!

Oh boy. Many years ago I had one cat on a urinary tract diet in a multi-cat household. His name was Marley. He was the only one DIDN'T want to eat the urinary diet.
