kae_md99, I'm also about five months out from final exchange. I wouldn't say that the feeling goes away, exactly, as much as you just get used to it. Sadly, it's our new normal.

thanks raven... i also thought so..i guess i have to get used to it. still wish i was smaller..lol..i finaly found a camisole with shelf bra( ex officio from amazon) that i think could work for me,very minimal support..i will ask my PS if i could use it longterm when i see him in 2 weeks...

I found a tank with shelf bra at kmart. They closed in my area, so I ordered a few online. The brand is basic editions tank top. I am a 22 plus in ready to wear and wear a xxl in this tank. Check the size chart. HTH

oh, yeah, you get more used to it. I also had my PT dig around and release some scar tissue. It helped a bit

Hey kae_md99!
I’m in Carlsbad! I have spent a fortune on bralettes too! I have more bras now than I did pre cancer.

my TE was placed last march, exchange last july. I have tried tons of no wire bras and have not found anything im comfortable with. I used to be 40c, but now am more of a 42b, but my foob side is not quite a match, but good enough. Our local BC support group said Soma intimates does fittings for us BC survivors. I'm thinking of going to the mall during spring break next week

2FUN,
my exchange was oct.. i dont think i will ever find something comfortable.. have you tried the lounge bra from target? gilligan and omalley is the brand..its doable for me but as with the others by the time afternoon comes my neck is already strained from the discomfort... good luck with your hunt..

kae-md99,
I just bought a bunch of bras from Free People (at the Forum in Carlsbad). Not the cheapest option, but they are pretty comfortable. I also have one from Wal-Mart but I don't remember the brand. It is comfortable too, but pretty ugly and the straps are really wide and it isn't very low cut. So if I'm wearing anything that shows cleavage it doesn't work.
I haven't done exchange yet... I'm still going thru radiation. Where are you being treated? I'm at Scripps in LaJolla. It's a trek down there, but I'm almost done with treatment.

Rebekah,
I am scripps too. Dr. Barone is my surgical oncologist, Rice,my onco and Apostolides is my PS. i think i know the walmart bra you ate talking about. straps are too short for me. im now wearing Still You camis with shelf bra. very pricey at 69$ a piece. i cannot tolerate bra. did you have positive nodes, hence the radiation

kae_md99,
I have Dr. Torrey as MO, Dr. Wilde as SO, and Jyoti as PS.
The question about the nodes is a little unknown. I mean, officially I had no node involvement, but there were suspicious nodes and when we did a biopsy they were negative. However, when we got to final surgery, we are not entirely sure the right nodes were pulled out (there was no biopsy clip in the final pathology). Between that and the fact that I had LVI and also that I'm triple negative, Dr. Shimizu, my RO thought it best to do radiation. I do think that probably my nodes were negative, but I really want to be aggressive, so I was fine with it.
I've been wearing some Gap shelf bra camis too. I am soooo lopsided though it's ridiculous. Have you done exchange yet? I won't do it for quite a while. I still have 6 more months of chemo to do post radiation.

Question about all these tanks and bralettes you all have..............do any of them have pockets in them that will hold an insert?
Because of my lopsided mutilation I have to pad my right side to make things even. Do any of the brands you've mentioned have something like that? I have the Genie brand that I got at Wal-Mart but as rdeesides said they're pretty ugly - wide straps and can't wear with anything low-cut (not that I wear that stuff much anymore, but on occasion.)

Raven4mi, One of mine does. And I actually find it to be the most comfortable one I have. When I have sec I will let you know the brand. I bought it at a small boutique so not sure how easy it will be to find.

we have a small masectomy boutique. They are the best for fitting, and have the ones with pockets. Is there anything like that near you?

I am fairly comfortable with Bali Bras (no wire and lightly padded)and put a small piece of foam at the bottom where it looks like a bit is missing in matching up with my real R breast. I tried a Soma bra, and while the fabric was just lovely, I just didnt like the fit in the back.

I bought several bralettes at Walmart that have pockets. I was able to add a lightweight prosthetic on one side. I wore them when I had TE’s and was able to continue when I had to have one removed. They had a few different styles and colors.

Hi all, I haven't posted much but feel the need to share the wonderful bra I found! They sell them at a few Nordstrom stores, but not many. They are available online from the manufacturer (see link below). It literally feels like you are wearing nothing (so comfortable!), and it is invisible under clothes. They do have slots for inserting padding if needed, but I'm not sure now much you could fit in there other than the ones it comes with (I remove them). I like the one in the link below because of the deep V.

My implants are 370cc, plus I've had fat grafting, and I wear a medium. Hope this helps someone

Thank you all for the great bra suggestions. I'll check out several of those. 2FUN, yes, my hospital has a boutique but I'm assuming they would be expensive there so I haven't checked.
Thanks again, everyone!

I found the boutiques are expensive, but insurance will cover some cost of a few bras a year. Also. Once you find a good bra you can go online to order another. Cure diva had nice immediate post surgical bras.

Ah, thanks, 2FUN. Never even thought about charging to insurance. Of course, I'm back into a new year of deductibles so it would all be out of pocket anyhow, but that's good to know.

kae_md99,
I actually just asked my physical rehab doc about medical marijuana today since it's legal in DC. He told me none of the docs at Georgetown are permitted to prescribe it. I'm going to try gabapentin...they're putting me on a super low dose because the Lyrica made me loopy, off balance, and otherwise bleh.
My doc also wants me to see a psychologist trained in pain management like biofeedback. He thinks that my brain needs to be retrained as perhaps I don't actually have nerve damage, but I felt pain for so long that I'm convinced I'm still feeling it. So in other words, I'm nuts.
I could have told him that.
Let me assure you that if my being nuts meant there was a way to retrain my brain and fix this, I'd be all in. And I'll call the therapist. But I'm not convinced on that front. And I have compartmentalized my issues very nicely, thank you, so I don't want to dredge up all of the bad feelings. I worked throughout treatment (double mastectomy, chemo and radiation) as a way to channel my fear into something positive and push what was happening to the background, and I'm happy that way. I don't need to sit with someone and cry three years later. I need to learn how to fix my head or my chest or both.
Rant over.

klg, no, you are not nuts. I worked with chronic pain clients for a long time. Research is showing that there are some effective techniques that are cognitively based that help your body to be less sensitive, and to respond to painful stimuli in a more normal way. I know this whole thing stinks, but it may be helpful if you can keep an open mind. Hugs!

thanks 2FUN. I’m being dramatic because I’m frustrated, but I’m willing to try this. I just hope insurance will cover it...the bills are insane and I’ve got two kids to send to college in a year.

drama is ok. I was just checking to make sure it was just frustration
Hang in there and let us know how you are doing
