Lulubee - I moved last spring after getting my diagnosis. Quite a bit of stuff hadn't been unpacked or used since the previous move 7 years before. We are down to 1/3 of the stuff we had. It is great, but it is a mental challenge indeed to sort through stuff.
Way to walk a very long way! Your recovery is quite astonishing.

I've started water aerobics because I figured it would be easy on my joints. Yesterday was my first day and I did the hot tub and sauna afterwards. But my lower back is sore and my spine is tingling a day after. Called my oncologist and they want me to get an mri. I didn't even work out like a crazy person in the water! It felt good to do something normal but now I'm in pain. I also just started taking Xgeva so maybe that has something to do with it... I don't know. I was going to do water aerobics and cycling at the gym but now... who knows what I can do.
I want a fit but as well and would love to join the group when I do.
Thanks for this thread.

Erika, when did you the the Xgeva shot? I have serious pain with the shot the two days after I get it unless I take Claritin. That shot can reek havoc on your bones and joints and Even muscles. Just wondering when you had the shot ? I have to admit my fit bit helps get me out and about. But I can promise you all at the moment I do not fall into the fit but category quite yet. LOL. Hugs~. ~M~ That was cute. I needed that giggle.

hi micmel, I had the shot March 9th for the first time. I also get a Zoladex shot monthly and am on tamoxifen daily. I was really looking forward to water aerobics too. I bought new bathing suits and everything
Don't know what it is.
Thanks for responding

Lol @ fit but. I just caught it. Stupid auto correct. Good one though. :)

Erika ~ try the Claritin. And see if it makes a difference. It helps all my joint pain. Do you take any pain medicine ? I take 5mg Percocet and I'm rolling along walking and jogging. Not everyday. But on my good days, see if you can hook up with a palliative care doctor. They specialize in pain relief it really helps! She gives me all I need to deal with the bone mets pain. It really does help. It's not too much to knock you out once you adjust to it and it really does help. You might find you can continue your aerobic water time if you take just a very mild dose pain relief. Of Percocet. Utililize every doctor you can, don't over do it. But I believe overall it really helped me function better daily. I hope it helps. Just don't give up until you find what works for you. I pray you'll be poolside soon!
~M~
I was also wondering how many days you got the shot, before you started to try the pool.? Was it with in like three or four days ? After the shot ? That you first started to swim?

Erika, I agree about the Claritin. Though I do not get xgeva, when I got Neulasta shots, bone pain was severe until someone told me about the Claritin since it would stimulate the bone marrow. I should think this is similar to your pain. See this thread if you decide you want to try it.

Good luck and welcome to our group, FYI, some of us do not have fitbits yet but we still like to support everyone and hear what people are doing.

Yes some of us have Fitbits and some don't. Some of us have fit butts and some don't. All welcome.
You may be interested to know that you can edit posts. One of several features that results in a higher quality discussion on BCO, IMO.
Took my own advice and went for a moderate exercise day ... 40 minute walk instead of a run. And 30 minutes yoga. Doing okay. It's frustrating that I don't get better. I seem to be able to maintain a routine of running 30-40 minutes but i don't get faster and my runs don't get longer. It doesn't get any easier to do it every day.
I used to put the time in and see improvement. Just holding steady. Guess that is the new normal.
Keep moving. And tell us about it.

Hi all, greetings from Australia 😎. I just joined the Fitbit group yesterday my time and must admit the daily challenge certainly encouraged me to do a lot more today than I had planned! I had to have my gated heart pool scan and once I realised I was in with a shot, I walked the halls whilst waiting for it. I then walked the Hobart city streets and shopping centre for the final 35 mins until the challenge ended, phew! Still waiting on one person to sync, I hope you went to bed early? Lol. Off to yoga now, nitey nite 😃

Z~ you are amazing and I agree about the frustration of not seeing the improvement you want when you're working so hard for results. I'm the same way. One week I'm killing it, and then the next I can't even think about getting out of bed. I am so sorry that you are going through this and we are all bothered by this beast. Believe it or not you do more than more then half of the people I know in my life that do not have cancer. So in my mind you're someone to look up too. You're out there doing it while people eat candy and chips on the couch not even moving the slightest. You inspire me and all of us on a daily basis with your thoughtful posts and information you continually share with us to help us get through our bad days! So here we are to help you through yours. (Gives Z a huge virtual hug).
Thinking of you all ladies. Have a day filled with movement. ~M~

Thank you ladies. I do this thread ultimately for my own healing. I could not maintain a routine otherwise. I need to hang out with people who know how tough it is. It is tough.
I have a different type of fatigue this week which I think is actual standard-issue allergies. IMO I think we should get a bye from all other illnesses once we get cancer. But we do not. Shooting for a 30 minute run today while my daughter is in orchestra rehearsal. Hoping to make it to the sauna/steam room to clear these allergies.
And so we keep moving. Not totally into it today, but I should be able to get it done.

Z~saw pallative care doctor today. She is an angel, always exploring every option to help me, she listens and cares. Such an amazing thing to have access to. I so much hope all of you have one of those doctors in your treatment, makes the struggle that much more doable. I am on antibiotics for five days. Got the ick bug someplace. Fatigue arrrrggggh! Ugh!! Spoke to her specifically about that today and we agreed that I will try a very small dose of ridilan as a boost for my mid day drowsys that I cannot seem to get through. She said she has seen the smallest dose provide a lot of relief for a struggling constant fatigued person. She Said Not everyday. Just days when you can feel it. Those total drain days where going to the bathroom can even wait. I'm gonna try for thirty days to see how I feel on it. I will try anything to help rebuild my stamina slowly.
Worth a try! Hope we are all moving . ~M~

No competition from me today on the Fitbit challenge I'm afraid! Seems like I do really good for a day or so th wham...that fatigue hits!!!! Had a dentist appt. yesterday so had to take antibiotic and wonder if that triggered it! Had two fillings, shots can't cause the jaw problems right? That's what I'm thinking I remember. I wonder too if I will ever get a good nights sleep again. Even with meds to help I'm up and down. I wake up feeling like I can't breathe. Then once I'm awake I realize I'm ok...but then I'm awake...hate it!!
Micmel, glad you are getting help from palliative care. I forgot completely about asking about it

Gracie~ The pallative care doctor is amazing. They can provide such relief in certain areas and have tricks to help us , that we would never know. She helps me on the days that my pain is the worst and I have begun to respond well to my daily plan/regimen that we agreed to together. I think that most times when people here palliative care it means that someone is reaching a critical state, but that isn't all that they do. They are there to help through out the cancer process we have to go through. To make it better to have QOL. She has helped me tremendously. I am very thankful for the help. Good night ladies. Rest well. ~M~

Gracie I am with you, I had a good Fit Bit day yesterday topped 10K steps, my goal is 8k! Hurrah. Today is another story don't think I will hit 6K. I didn't realize how hard it is to meet my goal it seems so small. The Fit Bit keeps you honest and motivates me to keep trying to move each hour..Some days are better than others and that's okay as long as we try. Tomorrow my daughter and I are spending the day together and that includes some GYM time, hopefully I will have a good day..
Have a great evening..

Today was an on day with me. Jogged a mile and walked a mile and walked 6500 steps. Which is not too bad with neuropathy ridden feet that I'm trying to get a hold of. Yesterday not so much. Do what you can when you can. I find that when I do it, I feel wonderful after. I hope you all feel the same way. Rest well ladies Good night ~M~0

Yup. It's up and down. Very hard mentally but it is what is and we are tough.
I had bad day yesterday, okay day today. 45 minutes of cardio and some yoga. I've felt better, but that is not bad. Looks like it will be 13,000 steps today, so all my goals met.
Hey everyone we haven't heard from ... How'd your workout go? What are your plans?

Hi All! Yesterday was a hard day for me too, Z, but sounds like you are back at it with 13,000 steps!
Lots of great step counts all around! Nice work everybody!
I am taking another little vacation to New Orleans Saturday through Wednesday, so I've been working extra hours to make sure I get everything at the office done in time. Makes it hard to exercise, and all the computer work is hard on the eyes. Had a headache all day yesterday and was looking forward to getting home only to discover that my husband invited people over for dinner! They are all super dear friends so I love seeing them, but I had to rally to stay alert. I managed to get a 10 minute walk in before they arrived and then did another 20 minutes of stepping, yoga and a few pushups before bed. I was sooo tired though. Honestly, if it weren't for the Fitbit and knowing I would be reporting in to you all, I probably wouldn't have done much. I did feel better after doing the exercise, but was still wiped out. Today was better and I did over 9,000 steps, but just couldn't keep up the gumption to run. Did a few little jogs but mostly walked. It's really cold here again, and Hercpetin makes my nose run, so I just dripped my way down the path. Looking forward to the heat in New Orleans if only to be able to walk without the waterworks!

DG - wow. you are made of steel, apparently. Way to get the exercise done on top of ... a lot.

I only got in a little over 4000 steps today. Monday was the biggest day, I had over 9000 for the first time, then I had a really bad night. 9000 is maybe pushing it too far right now

I note Tai Chi doesn't register as an activity, I guess it is a meditation as much as stretching, doesn't raise heart rate and of course not a lot of actual steps. Yoga didn't register last night either. Ah well, I need both of these so need to make up steps with other activities. Will make me work harder, which can only be good 🙂

Z~ someday soon I am hoping to reach that 13k mark of steps you're achieving! That's awesome, And you tell us we are tough. Lol you my friend are tough! Have a great day everyone!

I had a follow up echo last week and my EF rate dropped from 60-65% to 53% due to the Herceptin. I see a cardiologist on Monday but I'm pretty bummed. I don't want this to affect my general activity level but heart issues are in my head now. Is it safe to push myself or walk alone, ugh...

Mae~ I would pick up the phone and call my doctors, all of them if necessary to make sure. I would never want to see you take any chances with your heart. Take a deep breath and get some answers from the professionals. I am keeping you close in prayer. ~M~

Mae - Exercising in stage IV is a mind game indeed. Check with the docs, hang in there and let us know your thinking.
I spent my day rooting for everyone, but not doing a whole lot. We'll call this a rest day and start again tomorrow.

Thanks ladies. Just having a tough time accepting that what is meant to help me is also hurting me. Plus, this is silly but heart problems, at 42, seriously? It's just one of those doomy days where I have trouble putting the worry to rest. I'll see what they say Monday, maybe it's not so bad and won't have any/many limitations. Thanks again for understanding

llimae - I think 55% is the threshold they want you to be above, so you aren't too far off. I don't know how accurate tests are, so maybe they will take a "wait and see" approach. I wonder, do you take any supplements? My naturopath has me taking Coenzyme Q10, grapeseed extract, and Hawthorne tea for heart protection. I'm hoping that keeps the LVEF in the green zone.
Hopefully your cardiologist will be able to give you some good insight. I have certainly heard of people taking a break from Herceptin and then going back to it later after LVEF got back to normal. In more than 85% of cases, the heart problems are reversible once you discontinue.
BellaTassie - even though Tai Chi and Yoga don't count for steps, I think they have some of the biggest benefits for people. I know I always feel better after yoga or Tai Chi.
I led a yoga class tonight so I got most of an hour in and then I got about 10 minutes of running and 20 minutes of walking. Got my 8,000 steps in and might get to 9,000 before the night is out. I could cheat and put my fitbit on my right hand while I play guitar! That would rack up a few extra steps, ha ha! But, alas, it would be a hollow victory knowing I didn't really do the work!

Tai Chi in our beautiful Botanical Gardens this morning then a wander around. I love the ducks, they sometimes wander between our feet as we are practicing 😃.
Yes DGHoff, Tai Chi/Qigong is so beneficial, it was virtually all I could do (bar gentle walks) whilst having chemo. I keep reading that Qigong is so helpful with healing and I am now able to appreciate the meditative and energy aspects of it as much as the physical movement. The deep breathing in yoga has really helped calm me and of course the stretching benefits go without saying.

Made my step goal packing and running from meeting to meeting, but no real exercise. Exhausted none-the-less. For the record, it is easier to run a 10K than pack up a family for a mountain biking trip. The bikes, the racks, the tools, the gear. Headed to Moab for hiking and mountain biking tomorrow.
Keep moving ladies!!!
