Hi Ladies my first taxol infusion was uneventful, my heartbeats did go a little faster for a minute then I took few deep breathes it took care of it. I got very tired but couldn't sleep much because my cold hands and feet.

Thanks for all the prayers and I couldn't do this without everyone supports.

Paulette, glad the infusion was uneventful. I laughed when I read, " Two princesses"! Hope you and your pup feel good this weekend.

leatherette- glad I can make you laugh that's good for you. My little princess always comes first we can watch her limping so we have to pay for the Vets bills.

Paulette, glad it went well .... hope you enjoy the weekend :)

Talked to the nurse at the MO office about my concern about a possible bladder infection. Given my symptoms (or lack of), she thinks it's actually a SE of the taxol. It does feel like cramping / PMS.... lovely. I told my husband that dealing with awful menstrual cramps (but thankfully no period) with hot flashes is just wrong. Ah well. I'll take the cramps over nausea and feeling like I was hit by a Mack truck (A/C) any day. (Remind me of that in 10 weeks when I'm still bitching about it, please.)

JenRuns - I have so much gas as SE from AC then I fart so much. You read about me how I got constipation then after I drunk smooth tea I got Bog D. But I don't have much cramp. Hope you feel better soon.

Question about Elma cream on port? What do you use to cover the Elma cream. I finally am going to use Elma cream. Need some help!

paulette...i wrap mine in saran wrap, my port is in my left arm. Make sure you use it 1 hour before infusion. It works! I have never felt any of the needles going in. Stays numb for about 3 hours.

I use Saran Wrap too... just cut a square and tape it on. Use a good glob of cream an hour before. I have never felt the port access.

Proud - you need to contact your MO right away if you think you are having UTI. Ch KC August threat makeuplover posted she thinks she has UTI also. Doesn't matter is SE or not, your MO needs to take action right away for you

proudtospin- I had a UTI during Taxol. Was put on antibiotic and it didn't interfere with weekly chemo inf

What's with Taxol and UTI, ugh! Strange stuff, Jen mentioned symptoms too, but her MO thinks the sensation is a side effect. Think I'll go drink some cranberry juice!

Dodgersgirl- didn't you just have surgery? How's it going? Another step in this long process done, yay!

  • dodgersgirl
    dodgersgirl Member Posts: 1,902

Teese- yes, I had mastectomy on Monday (9-11-17) so am on that leg of this cancer journey. So far, haven't needed pain meds but figure that will change when things start healing and getting tighter. One drain, which BS said I will have for 2 weeks. Until drain comes out, I am sleeping in a recliner.

As I walk down this surgery recovery path, I found strength from people like you who have already made it thru surgery. I know I can do this.

Hope you get thru your DD Taxol with minimal SEs.

Dodgersgirl, it sounds like you're doing fantastic, I'm so glad. How is your husband doing? Is he still in rehab

  • dodgersgirl
    dodgersgirl Member Posts: 1,902

Teese- hubby starts cardio rehab on Monday. He is still so weak and tires easily. I think the rehab will do him wonders.

Hubby wasn't able to wait out my surgery at the hospital. I know that bothered him a great deal. I was "out" so I didn't know he wasn't there.

proudtospin: same story here. Nurse said likely a side effect of taxol, but drink lots of water and do cranberry juice just in case. Thinking about it now, I think she's right -- it didn't get worse, I had no fever and no burning. Just a feeling of a heavy abdomen, some cramping (like menstrual cramps) and it never got "worse."

sort of think my symptoms were not of bladder infection, i took an antibiotic that i had from past and feeling better. My onc had said it was a taxol side effect, i jump to assumption, drinking lots of water and cran juice to help

proudtospin- good to hear it wasn't UTI, I've added cranberry juice into my day just to head things off

Happy Sunday everyone! Still trying to catch up on this thread. It's funny to see all the different SE we're experiencing throughout this journey. It gives me relief to know that I'm not the only one even if we are on different regimens...

I had my 3rd TC infusion on Thursday and have been on the steroids, so SEe have been minimal so I got so much done the last couple of days. We'll see how things go today now that I'm off the steroids. I hope my SE stays minimal since we'll be going to the Hall & Oates/Tears for Fears concert tonight. This was the event my hubby had surprised me with for my bday in July but the promoters postponed it, and tonight's the night!

This last infusion cycle I have also had really bad bladder control! I ended up buying the Always bladder control pads for slight leaking. Ugh! But I only leak when I'm already in the restroom in front if the toilet which is so weird. Maybe it's a psychological thing that my body knows I'm about to go and just releases. LOL And since I'm already at the toilet there's no big mess.

I also started the LiveStrong program last week. But here it's called "Living Strong, Living Well". It's administered by Stanford and this program is local to the YMCA in the Northern CA region but the description is similar -- 12 week guided training program. One of our trainers is working towards a certification for cancer-specific personal training. So I'm glad to bein good hands. This week was just orientation of the gym and learning about the machines we will be using. Yesterday I had a 1 on 1 session to figure out my specific training needs regarding weight load and introduced to the treadmill and bicycles.

I haven't been to our local Y before so I'm so happy to see that they have so many group classes, racquetball AND both and indoor & outdoor pool. So I'll definitely be checking out all the services with this temporary membership they offered during this program. I was a gym rat many moons ago, and I am really excited to get back into my fitness... Slowly for now, of course!

Good morning ladies, how's everyone doing? Sounds like cranberry juice became one of the helper for our SE now. Maybe I should get some to be safe.

I don't feel that bad, just tired and a sore throat. No temp, so it's probably just mucositis. Mouth still behaving. But I can feel my WBC dying off.....10 days out from infusion.

I'm going to put cranberry juice on my shopping list, too, just in case.

I'm going to share yet another indignity cancer mocks me with...pubic hair-lost completely down the middle, Staying nice and firmly on/over the bikini line. I'm not planning to go swimming anytime soon, but, really?

    Hope everyone is doing well.
