Zometa side effects

Hi @jamesie307,
I had been typing a response to you and I don’t know if was sent partially complete or if it just went to never never land! This thread was very helpful to me and is worth going back and reading some of the older posts.
I am sure you know about the avoidance of any dental work while you are getting infusions, right? When I was getting infusions, I took a Tylenol about an hour before my infusion. And drank a ton of water. I also requested fluids/saline infusion along with my Zometa. And I never had any of the flu like symptoms, or rash at all.
I did have jaw pain at one point but it went away after a few days. It was really strange but then again all of this is strange!
Please let us know how you manage with the jaw pain and rash if you still have that. I also live in a very rural area and my cancer center is 2 hours away. I message my oncologist nurse or her PA when I have any questions or symptoms that worry me. Best to you and hope this is of some help. ~ Marcia

Hi Marcia, and thank you so much! It's helpful to hear (although sorry to hear it) that you also had jaw pain and it IS strange. I had a complete dental work up prior to starting and my dentist okayed the treatment. It's a bit better tonight, as is the rash. I was out of town when this all started and my oncologist suggested I go to Urgent Care, where they prescribed me a very strong antihistamine which helped but made me sleep strangely. I think I'll stick to Claritin and Tylenol. I will happily take your suggestion about taking Tylenol prior to infusion, and they did give me saline and advise lots of fluids, but it's possible my definition of "lots" was not enough. I am hoping the jaw pain abates in the next day or two. Glad we both have such responsive medical teams, even as we are far away from them! WIshing you the very best and hope you are doing well. With deep thanks!

@jamesie307 glad I could help even if just a little! Hope the jaw ache and rash are still subsiding. I have a hard time getting water into my body right now because of the drug that I’m on. I used to drink probably between 48 and 64 ounces a day. I don’t even know if that’s considered a lot or not!

My side effects, as of yesterday, are finally subsiding. Phew! That does seem like a lot of water and hopefully you're able to get some down. Do you put electrolytes in yours? Last summer, when taking an immunotherapy drug that made me quite sick and dehydrated, I couldn't get as much water down but whenever I drank it I put electolyte drops in or drank coconut water. That seemed to help! Take good care..

hi @jamesie307 so glad to hear you are feeling better. I started adding electrolytes to my water recently . I never had before because of the tiny bit of sugar that’s in there… I was told I could only have straight water as a hydrating liquid. I do not believe that! Again, glad to hear you are feeling better! Marcia

There are so many different opinions out there as to what's best for hydration, I've found. I think at some point we have to do what works for us - as long as there's no potential for harm (which with electrolytes, I've been told by my PA, there is not). Let's keep on keeping on, as they say!

@jamesie307 I agree 100%! So many opinions and we are all different! I do value all of the opinions even if they end up not working for me. Just knowing we are all in this wacky thing together helps. Yup let’s keep on keepin on! Marcia
