mocame, I am glad you had a wonderful time. I love staying on the beach and listening to the waves at night.

Kamboka, Crossing my fingers all goes well and you are in your new house soon.

My closing was delayed again. They have my money but not sure what the hold up was. I was waiting on a call about the notary and when I wrote them they said it might be Wednesday. That's the day I plan on being in FL so they better not be wrong. I've been ordering things to be delivered to the house and need those keys.

mocame: I'm glad you had a nice vacation and really glad that the Governor lifted the quarantine order. Who wants to use up precious vacation time in quarantine. I'm very grateful that almost 100% of my work can be done from home. Many years ago, I worked for some European agencies and was getting six weeks of vacation. I do envy them having all that time off.. In American, we get worked to the bone! Was the beach deserted? I like it when there are few folks there. I hope to spend more time at the beach during the winter when fewer folks are there.

Tomorrow, I meeting somebody at the train station to pick up a suitcase. It's a big roller. I don't need another one but I'm using it to pack some of my things in it and it rolls. That's much easier on my back than lifting boxes. I've got to pack my SUV rental car in two weeks to leave my home for the last 1 1/2 years. it will be bittersweet.

Good morning, Ladies. Not much going on here. I am a little sore and stiff. Husband and I were acting like it was the 1970's and disco dancing. It was fun, but both of us are paying the price. LOL

petite1: Good for you. I happened upon a website last week about the 'real' resort where they filmed "Dirty Dancing". It was fun to see that place and reminisce about how I wished I could dance when that film came out. My exercise came from going to the metro rail and meeting a fellow to pick up a suitcase that I bought from Craigslist. I did feel good to get out of the house. It was my first time to use the rail system since early March. Funny, I have almost $100 on my rail card and now I'm moving!

I'm packing for my trip to FL. It has been 98 degrees the last few days here. It will actually be cooler down there.

Petite1 - That sounds like a lot of fun! The price we pay to have some fun when we get older! LOL.

Kamboka - I hope everything goes well with closing and moving down to FL. It's hot here too and we are in another heat advisory today. Hopefully Florida will be cooler when you get there. I'm so excited for you and wishing you the very best in your new adventure.

The new and warmer me is having a harder time with this heat. At night I am barely able to sleep, despite the a/c unit and having a fan blowing on me. I don't sleep well with the Effexor and it takes me awhile to fall asleep and then I wake up multiple times a night and toss and turn. Usually, I finally get into a good sleep right before I have to wake up. I think I'll talk to my MO about what I'm experiencing on the Effexor.

    Have a great day!

Good morning, ladies. It is 78 degrees this morning and will go to 91 this afternoon. Rain about 2:00 pm. No plans today. I will probably go to the gym. I went yesterday and only 4 or 5 people. Have a pleasant day.

  • mocame
    mocame Member Posts: 564

Petite1 - You are good, going to the gym on a regular basis! I don't have that will power to go somewhere to exercise. I have thought about getting a gym membership but I know that I would never use it. If I can't exercise at home, I probably wouldn't do it at all. It's been in the 90's all week here and our grass is very dry and brown. We had a storm roll in last night that gave us a little bit of rain and thankfully we are currently having a nice steady rain this morning. We need it.

Kamboka - I hope everything is going well for you! Can't wait to hear how you are doing!

    Have a great day!

mocame, I don't go regularly, just once or twice a week. LOL I am suppose to get 30 minutes everyday per MO, but that doesn't always happen. I figure if I go to Walmart or Publix, that should count as exercise.

Hi ladies: I made it back to DC today. I'm exhausted. I was ripping and running the entire time. It also seemed like Murphy's law happening a lot. My work had been calm and then it heated up on Thursday and Friday. I was trying to do my pick ups and had to stop to address work issues. I did close on the house on Wednesday. The hot tub guy came and said mine was one of the worst he's ever had to clean. It was full of roach poop. He worked over five hours. He has to come back next week and clean again. I don't know if I can get in the thing but already I've spent almost $1000 on getting it clean and buying a new cover. It said it was a nice spa and worth over $7K so I need to mentally get over it. If my mom and brother knew about the roaches, they would never get it in. I'm trying to not let them know and get it sanitized. Also, I couldn't get my internet/cable to work and on the third day, Xfinity did send someone out. He worked over two hours to get it going. Right before he arrived, I managed to lock myself out of the house. I was frantic. I borrowed my neighbors garden shears and was prepared to knock the window in at the door but I managed to push it hard enough to open it. I stayed at a hotel for two nights. The first hotel's internet went out and I had to move to a different one so that I could work. My first night in the new house, I was sleeping on a mattress on the floor and caught cramps in both legs/thighs. It was not fun. I think part of it was dehydration. I was sweating and not hydrating enough. Needless to say, it was not a great first night. I had about 12 or so FB marketplace pick ups. I bought some really lovely things and met some nice folks. I was happy with all my purchases except for one. I ended up getting my dining and living room furniture sight unseen. The dining was great. However, the seller of the living room did not mention the torn spots on the couches. He also said they were leather and they are not. I sent him a note and said i was disappointed that he didn't reveal the condition but he never wrote back. Most folks are very honest and tell the truth. I think I'll have to sell this--at a loss and rebuy. I also paid about $100 to get it delivered and I will not be able to recoup that. Normally, I would have seen this but I bought it from DC as other people were interested and it looked really nice in the pictures. Oh well, lesson learned. I now need to start packing up as I leave on Sunday. I just want to rest for two days first.

I laughed when I read you both talking about exercise. I ate so much fast food--as I was driving--I feel like I need to 'fast' for a couple of days. Of course, I won't, but I need to eat healther. The seller left me his treadmill so I should not have any excuses.

    mocame Member Posts: 564

Kamboka - Oh my word! I'm exhausted just reading that! I'm glad that most of your marketplace purchases worked out well. I haven't lucked out well with marketplace/Craigslist stuff we have looked at but I know a few people that have bought really nice things for great prices.

I rarely eat fast food too but when we go on trips, we do tend to stop at fast food places because it is literally a faster meal/stop. When we went to the beach a week ago, the only food places open were the fast food drive thru, so we didn't have a choice. You will probably burn all that food off while you are packing up anyway. Then when you settle in Florida, you will have all the fresh Florida fruits/veggies to eat! :)

Kamboka, I am tired just reading all you had to do and still do. I hope you can enjoy that hot tub. Maybe it will help the leg cramps. If the faux leather couch only has small holes, there is a kit you can buy to fix it. I have used it on car interiors and a faux leather jacket. It comes in a variety of colors and grains. You put on the stuff and press the grain on. I was able to match one perfectly and close on another. I don't recall what it is called, but you can probably find it online.

mocame, No exercise for me today. I have an antique Jenny Lind bed with a mattress topper. I got too close to the edge and slid off the topper. I have a lump on my head, knee and scratch on my back. Ouch.

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

petite1: Yikes! you fell off the bed? At least you weren't seriously hurt. I do worry about that when I see these very high beds. In regards to the sofa set. I'm not a stickler for perfection since I'm a dedicated thrifty shopper. I think I was more upset that he didn't tell me that there were at least five bad spots and he charged a fairly high price. The other problem is that it sits very low to the floor. It hurt my knees getting up out of the chair this weekend. I'm already looking at other sofas on FB. :) When I get back, I'll list the set and hopefully can sell it quickly without too much of a loss. I've got to focus on beds now.

mocame: The scales showed two pounds up. My diet has been so bad ever since I decided to buy the house. I think it's stress thinking about the bill I now have every month--actually bills since i have other expenses as well.

I forgot to mention that most of my neighbors seen nice and most are retired military. However, I'm pretty much an introvert. I'm seeing that every time I go outside, there is a neighbor and I have to talk. I guess I need to live out in the woods by myself. :)

    mocame Member Posts: 564

Petite! - Ouch! Are you ok? No lasting effects besides the lump and scratches? We don't have a mattress topper and I thought about getting one but I'm short and I'm afraid I would need to stool to get into bed. LOL!

Kamboka - I'm an introvert too and pretty much kept to myself until I married my husband. Now I talk to neighbors and help them when needed and vice versa. When we were considering buying our current home, my husband went door to door and talked to the neighbors to make sure we were buying in a neighborhood where there weren't any issues. Ended up finding out the issues in the neighborhood all tended to be from the people that were living in the house we were buying. LOL. We've been living here for 24 years.

    petite1 Member Posts: 2,293

mocame, I have a stool to get in the bed. That is part of the problem. It was in the wrong place. LOL We have lived in this house for 11 years. We don't know the neighbors. It is a big sub with about 16,500 residents. At one time some people wanted to incorporate and form their own city. Unfortunately, all there is, is homes. No stores or schools, etc.

Kaboka, I hope you can sell it and get something very comfortable. Did you try out the hot tub?

petite1: Are there bruises today? It sounds like it would be.

mocame: That's a good idea that your husband had. My only thought was not getting into a street with too many kids. Well, Murphy's law, the house directly across from me has kids that ride in the street! I already had to go to my neighbor on the right side to borrow a tool to help me get back into the house after locking myself out.

I've started packing and realize I have more stuff than I thought. How will I ever get five suitcases, at least six boxes, six pillows and several blankets into my SUV. It's a rental so not sure the exact size. I'll see if I can upgrade to the largest size although I'm not a great driver of large vehicles and I have to bring the car into the city for one night. It's been years since I've driven in DC.

My back hurt so bad most of my time in FL. Yesterday, it felt better. I'm thinking the AI is not helping. I just ordered some Comfrey ointment on Amazon. Have either of you used it?

    petite1 Member Posts: 2,293

Kamboka, That sounds like a lot of stuff to pack. What kind of SUV is it? Maybe you could rent a van. On one of the websites, Hertz or Uhaul, it gives you an idea of how big a vehicle you need. Good luck. It does not sound easy.

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

I don't know what SUV they will rent to me. If it seems too small, I'll have to pay to upgrade to a larger one. I did more packing today because I don't want to wait till Saturday and have to do everything. It's amazing how our 'stuff' just seems to grow. I'm throwing away some things and leaving a bunch of stuff for the housecleaners. If they don't want it, they can throw out.

Kamboka, That might work. They say purging is good for the soul. LOL It looks like the storm track moved from my side to your side. Looks like rain, Sun, Mon, Tues.

I'll be traveling from TN to FL on Wednesday. Hoping the storm is gone back to sea by that time. When I get there, I need to get my hurricane kit together.

I'm still having problems with low O2 when I lay down at night. Last night it seemed worse and I was in the low 80s. This morning, I seemed to have some congestion. I immediately thought of COVID. DC has a walk in testing site three blocks from my apartment. I went at 8:30 before it got too hot. They were fast and I was in and out in about 15 minutes. The results will take up to five days. I really want to know now since I'm scheduled to travel to my brother's on Sunday and my mom's on Monday. At least if I get a clean bill of health, I can take off this blasted mask around my family.

Kamboka, I am glad to hear you won't be in Florida until Weds. I have lived on the coast of FL since 1958. The worst part is the power outage. In 2004, we had 4 hurricanes hit and the worst one left the power off for 2 weeks. So, in your kit large flashlights and batteries. Food that requires no refrigeration. We have a gas grill, so we can heat food up. I even have a camp style coffee pot. If I have coffee, I can survive. Also cell phone car chargers are a must as well. After 2004, a lot of people bought generators. Also ATM machines don't work, gas stations can't pump and if you have a well, it doesn't work. That is the worst. The one that frightened me the most was "no name" the storm of the century in 1993. I was living right on St. Pete beach. When I finish grad school and became a Nursing Home Administrator, I would stay at work, often for 48 hours straight, during a hurricane. 2004 was the only problem. After 2004, we went for years without any big problems.

petite1: I'll probably check back with you about more things to go into my kit. It's on my list of things to do but you know that list is very long. I'm buying more things on line everyday. I swear I'm so addicted to this FB marketplace. I never even check my account, I just go straight to shopping. In fact, I told my mom tonight that if she had things she wants to get rid of we can bring them with us to FL and I'll sell them. I've rented a 12' trailer all for my boxes. I have no furniture to transport so I'm sure I'll have lots of room. I think I'm boxed up all my things but don't know how this will fit in one car. :)

Today was my last day working on this project. I was talking to the young lady I'm handing over my work to and we got to talking and realized that both of us were cancer survivors. She is an 18 year survivor as she had bone cancer when she was 10. We talked over an hour about how we made it through treatment. We laughed at the fact that some foods we can't eat any more d/t the effects of the drugs. Unfortunately, she didn't get all the nice cocktails that we get before treatment and she had lots of n/v. I didn't have any. It's a small world and no one knows what others have been through. Too bad we bonded on my last day!

Hello! Sorry I haven't been around. It's been a crazy week!

Kamboka - I'm so glad you aren't going to Florida right now. The hurricane isn't the Florida welcome you need right now. I'm so excited for your new life adventure. It's nice that you have Petite1 to help give you tips and information!

My COVID test came back negative! ThumbsUp Now I won't feel guilty around my mom.

I am exhausted. I went to pick up the rental car and the attendant didn't want to rent it to me unless I showed my govt travel orders. I didn't have my work phone with my emails and I almost had to go back home to get it. I've been traveling for the govt for almost 10 years and no one has ever asked to see my orders. Anyways, I think he felt bad and finally gave me a car. I was taking my first load of stuff to the car and my blender fell off the trolley. I had forgotten to tape up the box and it smashed in the garage. I had to try to rake the glass out of the way and was happy I had on closed shoes. I was sweating like a pig after my two trips. My back and neck are so painful even though I took two Aleve before I started lifting boxes. I had to leave one large suitcase of clothes for the housekeeping folks since I could fit my five suitcases and 7 or so boxes in the car. I also have four pillow, throw and two large mattress pads. I can't believe how much stuff I accumulated over the last 1 1/2.

I'll get up tomorrow and leave DC by 8:00. It's a six hour drive to NC where I'll spend the night. I hope it's not raining the entire time. Either way, I'm heading more west so eventually will get out of the rain.

mocame: I hope you get some rest this weekend after your hectic week.

petite1: Looks like FL might be spared the worst part but we haven't even entered the prime hurricane season yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it slows down.

Hi, ladies. We dodged another one. YAY. Kamboka, hope you don't have any rain on the way.

mocame, I hope this week is better.

Petite1 - I'm so happy you dodged the tropical storm. We are supposed to get 2 to 5 inches of rain from it from Monday night until Wednesday morning. We need rain but not all at one time. :)

Kamboka - I'm so glad your COVID test came back negative. I hope your trip down to Florida goes safely and mostly rain-free. I can't believe how much stuff you got into that vehicle. What vehicle did they end of giving you?

Good morning, Ladies. I hope it was pleasant weekend, though Kamboka, yours was probably very busy. I have decided Wellbutrin is not for me. When I was 50, I used Zyban to stop smoking and it worked well for that. It worked well for making my life pleasant. Wellbutrin is giving me headaches and compulsive eating. It is probably part of the reason I slid out of the bed. I did not take it today. I won't tell my PCP until next visit. I don't think I want to try anything else. I take too many meds anyway.

  • mocame
    mocame Member Posts: 564

Petite1 - Is there anything else you can try instead? I feel your pain about too many medications. Most of my medications/supplements are to combat the side effects of other medications. I don't sleep on the Effexor I'm taking and I am exhausted everyday. I took a melatonin last night about an hour before I went to bed. I still didn't fall asleep for awhile but earlier than without taking it. My question that I keep asking myself is if I really want to take another pill just to get a little better relief. Frustrating.

Kamboka - Thinking of you and wondering how you are doing?! I hope you made it down to FL without too many problems. I have friends that were vacationing in Myrtle Beach last night when the hurricane came through. I texted them last night and still haven't heard anything from them. I'm hoping they are okay. Let us know how you are when you get more settled.

  • petite1

mocame, I think if I don't watch the news, I won't be depressed. LOL That is better than meds. Everything just got overwhelming.

  • mocame
    mocame Member Posts: 564

Petite1 - I know! And staying off of social media. I've lead a more "normal" life since I was still able to go to work everyday and it still got to me. Overwhelming is exactly how I would describe it too.

mocame, This and a neighborhood site are the closest I get to social media. I like it that way. My husband is sometimes on FB all day long. He gets pulled in.

Kamboka, If I am reading your schedule right, you should be in Florida tonight or tomorrow. Hope the trip is going well. Let us know when you arrived.
