Petite1 - I haven't noticed any weight gain/loss from the antidepressants. Any weight gain I've had was from eating too much and then having a harder time getting off due to getting older. When I went on Amitriptylin, I had no side effects other than I slept a lot better at night, which is a good thing and I enjoyed! :)

Kamboka - I'm glad to hear your surgery was approved. Hopefully everything will work out getting it done in and working in DC. It sounds like everything is coming together for your move to Florida. I'm happy for you. You have had a lot going on in the past year and I hope the rest of the process/move goes smoothly and is uneventful.

I had planned to go down to the national mall to sit and watch the air show and the fireworks today. I went outside this morning at 1000 and it was so hot and humid, I changed my mind. However, I got lucky and from my window, I was able to see about a third of the planes fly overhead. That was cool. I'm not going out for the fireworks at 9 pm. I'll watch on CSpan. I do love fireworks and watched the ones from Mt. Rushmore last night. Maybe next year, I'll hit them in person.

    Happy 4th of July!

mocame, The weight gain is from my thyroid is too low and too many snacks. LOL

Kamboka, That sounds fabulous. We watched on TV.

Kamboka - Seeing the planes fly by would be neat to see! Usually we can see the fireworks from Hershey Park from our front porch so we never go anywhere to see fireworks. They were canceled this year but so many people and neighborhoods had fireworks this year that we could sit on our front porch and watch different fireworks displays on July 3rd and July 4th. So nice!

Petite1 - I just had some bloodwork done by my PCP to check my potassium levels and thyroid levels. Everything came back fine except the thyroid antibodies was really high. Supposed to be 9 or lower. Mine was 83! Not sure what that means when my T3 and T4 were fine but we will see. I don't know too much about the thyroid to know if it's a problem.

mocame: I'll be interested to find out what your high thyroid levels mean. Over the years, when I couldn't lose weight I sometimes wanted my thyroid levels to be off so I could take the meds. I heard that it would help with weight loss. Mine have always been normal.

petite1: I couldn't find the fireworks on TV, however, I could hear the loud bangs from my apartment. Unfortunately, I face the wrong way and other buildings would have blocked my view.

Tonight I found a really cool painting tool from Sherwin Williams. You can upload your house photos and play aorund with painting the rooms. I'm getting really creative.

Forgot to mention that I had another allergic reaction to shrimp today. this is my fourth time. I keep refusing to give up shrimp since it's my favorite food. I had hives all over my face then it started on other body parts. I immediately took a benadryl. I still have a few bumps let but the itching went away. I need to stop eating but I can't. I have left overs in the fridge: shrimp and broccoli, shrimp egg foo yung, and shrimp eggrolls. I can't throw it out. I'll take the benadryl before I eat it tomorrow or Tuesday and hope for the best.

mocame, It usually means a thyroid disorder, your PCP will probably put you on some meds or require more testing. It might have to do with radiation. There is no instant weight loss. LOL

Kamboka, I love shrimp too. I do have to keep the amount I eat under control, if not I itch all night. For some reason it is usually garlic shrimp that causes the worst problem.

I could not resist eating my shrimp egg foo yung. I did take a Claritin hours before. So far, so good.

You two and shrimp...LOL! My husband loves shrimp but I'm not crazy about seafood.

I am heading to the beach on Saturday for a week with my husband's family. We don't eat much seafood while there but they either go clamming and have a big clam meal or buy some clams to eat down there. Yuck! :)

Good morning, ladies. The ceiling is getting repaired today. Hopefully the home repairs will be over for a while.

  • Now dx with hypothyroid. Level was 5x's what it should be. Rad dr. said it was not caused by my rad tx but i have my doubts. Anyone else have this happen?

    petite1 Member Posts: 2,311

Hi, KID1919. Yes. My doctors do think it is caused by radiation. PCP is monitoring regularly and increasing my Thyroid medication about every 2 or 3 months. Do you have any symptoms - changes in BP, weight, hair loss, mood?

mocame: Are you looking forward to the week with the in-laws? I'm not a big fan of clams but I will eat clam chowder. My mom asked me today why did I keep eating shrimp when it could kill me. I told her it would be like my last meal--if I were on death row. I would die happy. My home closing got delays by 3-4 days. I had already booked my flight, car, hotel, housecleaners, etc. I had to reschedule everything. Luckily, my new flight was $80 less so they will send me a voucher.

petite1: Boy, are you having a lot of home repairs. This is scaring me. :)

KID1919: Are you hypo or hyper? If your numbers were high, then it might be hyper. What does your PCP recommend?

Kamboka - I really need this vacation but we are not 100% sure we are going. We are going to a small beach in Delaware. The NY and NJ governors have put DE on their list of states you need to quarantine 14 days for if you visit. If my governor does the same, then I can't go or will have to quarantine and lose 2 weeks of work. I tried explaining to my boss that it's a small, almost private, beach and we weren't going to go to the big boardwalks but she said it didn't matter. So we will see. I like new england clam chowder but can't stomach eating clams by themselves. Your response to your mom was hilarious. You really do love shrimp! LOL! I'm sorry you had to rebook everything due to the change in closing.

Petite1 - Sorry about the home repairs. It usually comes in waves, doesn't it.

KID1919 - I have had my bloodwork show my thyroid has been off since radiation. They are just keeping an eye on it for now but just last week my thyroid antibodies came back high and a nurse left a message at home that all my bloodwork came back normal. So, now I have to call my PCP and ask what is happening with the thyroid results.

mocame, I hope things will work out with your vacation.

Kamboka, Boiled shrimp night before last. YUM

They could not get much done on the ceiling, yesterday, due to rain. It is on the lanai. Hopefully today.

mocame: I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you to get out of town on vacation. It's so weird how week to week things can change with COVID. When I first went down to FL, I was worried that they would shun me because DC was raging. Now when I go down there it will be reversed.

petite1: The lender was saying that my flood survey was being delayed because of all the rain. It's been really dry in DC the last year. I know we need rain but I'm more of a dry season girl. One of the nice thing about some places I've worked in Africa is that they have two seasons--wet and dry. In the dry season, we don't see rain for months. I do love that.

Well, so far it's a GO for vacation. I hope it stays that way. We've been tracking Delaware's numbers and they seem to be going down slightly. I found out yesterday that they will start mandatory testing for COVID at work starting today. My boss didn't say anything to me yet so I think my department will be next week but I will be on vacation. We will see what happens.

I don't know if I mentioned it, but I talked with my MO this week to go over the side effects of Effexor. I'm having issues with not sleeping, increased acid reflux, and I told her about the SEs I experienced after day one of the full dose. She was okay with me taking 1/2 a pill and said to see how I am after about a month and if I'm still having problems, including hot flashes, then she will try to switch me to something else. She told me that after the next 3 or 4 months, whatever hot flashes, aches, etc. that I am experiencing naturally will probably be my new normal for awhile. Great.

Kamboka - I hope the flood survey can get done soon so it won't delay everything again.

Good morning, Ladies. It has been raining since 1:00 this morning. I do not think the lanai ceiling will be finished today. I am doing well with the increase thyroid dose. I have not started the Bupropion XL (sub for Wellbutrin). I am a little afraid of it.

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,086

mocame: Don't let the doctor tell you it's the new norm. I think there is some med or other therapy that can help. It could be a combination of mineral and herbs. I think the MO should start you on another SSRNI since you've been on the Effexor for quite a while. I really was ready to stop the AI in January. If my Celexa had not worked to reduce my flashes by at lest 75%, I would have stopped. All during my treatment, I kept telling the MO that I was after quality of life--if I could get some quantity that would be good too.

petite1: I took Wellbutrin some time ago. I don't think I had any major problems although it didn't really help with my depression. I think I had some dry mouth but I'm prone to that with many meds. I hope it works for you.

I've just been Facebook Marketplace shopping and hoping that all the things I like will still be around when I get to FL. I have rented an SUV so I can pick up a few smaller things when I get there. Ten more days and I'll be there for a short trip. Can't wait.

Kamboka, I hope they are. There are many estate auctions and sales in Florida. You should be able to get some great deals.

petite1: You are going to turn me into my mom. Happy She used to own a consignment shop and our house was constantly redecorated. She had loads of nice antiques. Now, I find myself appreciating antiques more and more even though I used to laugh at her. I have gotten my first goody off FB. It's a really pretty wall tapestry that I plan to use in the dining room. The lady is holding it for me until next week and she didn't ask for a deposit. I still have to work the three days I'm in FL but hopefully it will not be too busy and I can break away to shop.

mocame: Is this your vacation week? If so, I hope you are having a lovely time.

Good morning. I thought I posted yesterday, but don't see it. Probably operator error.

mocame, Hope you are having a wonderful vacation.

Kamboka, The countdown is on. I am excited for you.

Today they told me I had been approved! Yay. Now, I have closing on Monday. They haven't let me know yet when the notary will call.

I've been trying to get things off Facebook Marketplace but no one want to hold items, even when I offer to pay a deposit. I just hope there are other good things by the time I get down there. I missed out on two really nice living room and bedroom sets. I like odd things and so much has come and gone.

I need to get serious about packing up my stuff to leave here. I've been her 18 months so it will be bittersweet. Since the city is not "normal" I will not miss being in downtonw. I had planned on doing a lot of touristy things this year since I was feeling better and I'm so close to everything. Now, things are closed and I'm more cautious with walking alone at night.

Kamboka, Yay! I know you will find awesome furniture deals. There are so many estates sales, auctions, thrift shops, etc. My best deals are from auctions and second best estate sales. Flea markets are not too bad either.

My closing is suposed to be tomorrow but they didn't contact me about a notary coming by. I've sent my closing costs so it's either Monday or Tuesdya. I'm on the plane Wednesday heading down. I've lined up about 10 purchases from FB. I am getting a lovely dining room and living room set and had to book a moving truck to help me. I've got a busy four days planned but I can't wait.

    How was your weekend?

Hello! I had a beautiful and relaxing week at the beach, despite COVID. No sooner had we arrived and started unpacking when our Gov announced that he put the state we were in on the quarantine list. While everyone else there didn't have to quarantine when they got back home, my work was making me quarantine for 14 days after I arrive home and use up my whole 3 weeks of vacation in one trip! I was in contact with my boss on trying to figure out a way to still do part of my work from home but 90% of my job has to be done in the office. Then 3 days later...The Gov took the state off the list and I didn't need to quarantine anymore. Ugh! What a mess! We pretty much just went from our beach house to the beach and back. I didn't go to the boardwalk, the grocery store, or do any shopping. I did go to a small bakery down the road that makes fresh muffins, cookies, scones, filled croissants, etc. but nobody else was there and we wore masks. Yum!

I've been on Effexor for about 3 weeks and the hot flashes are still a little better but now I started with aches in my feet and my hips. It doesn't happen as often as with my other medication but when it does, it's worse.

Petite! - Yay! Your ceiling is done! What a relief!

Kamboka - I'm so excited for you! I like looking at Facebook, Craigslist, and thrift shops but I never seem to find anything great. I hope you soon find out when settlement is and have a great trip down.
