Hi ladies sorry have been MIA...home from surgery very happy with size of my boobs yay! I was feeling really good, had 3/4 drains removed on Thursday and on Friday woke up sore and chills and fever....they started me on keflex and today I’m seeing some thick clear amber colored drainage and it’s draining more! I hope this clears up the infection but I was feeling very good before this! Thank you ladies for checking in and Eigna glad to hear it def is an infection! Happy belated birthday JRNJ!!!

Maryjv- my boys are doing ok. Excited to go back to school and see their friends. They keep me busy so I don't have time to think about everything else and they do make me laugh too. 🤗😊🥰 Keep in touch Maryjv. Let us know how you are doing.

Maryjv and Eigna, So sorry to hear about the infections. Hope they clear up quickly. I hate taking antibiotics, they make me sick. Especially cipro. My kids are 13 and 15 and started remote schooling today.

Maryjv, Thanks for the b-day wishes! Glad you're happy with your results so far.

What a roller coaster I've been on. 2 weeks from ovary removal. First week med withdrawal. Second week I was miserable with pain everywhere and fatigue and hot flashes. Last few days feeling better. Took my Arimidex today first time in over 2 weeks, so we'll see what happens. I'm taking every supplement recommended on these boards for joint pain.

Oh no JRNJ!!! I think I now have arthritis from chemo or menopause...I take glucosamine And turmericand it def helped me because when I had to stop for surgery prep I started feeling all the joint pain all over again!!! Haven’t restarted yet waiting to get approval from PS...

JRNJ and Maryjv - how are you doing?

I went to the doctor today as a follow up since I finished antibiotics. Guess what? I need to take another two weeks of antibiotics since my infection has not cleared up completely yet. 🙄🙄

Hi Eigna! I am also on another round of antibiotics ugh still have 5 days and have already vomited from taking them! Today I had drain #4 removed-yay! Feels so good to be drain free, went shopping for bra and girdle so happy about that as well!! Hoping your infection clears up soon!!

    Nice Maryjv! Happy shopping!

Yes this infection doesn’t want to go away ! But it will. I booked my mammogram for November 16th ...joy! Another fun thing to look for 🙄!

Maryjv and Eigna, Hope you are feeling better. I am doing much better from the neck up. No more headaches, some minor agitation. Still some insomnia, but sleeping much better than before. Main issue now is pain throughout my body, especially hands, arms and feet. I'm trying celebrex and a bunch of supplements, but not working much. But I also overdo it all the time. I'm doing a lot of work in my house. I can't sit still.

Glad to hear from you JRNJ! Glad your feeling better and I completely understand the pain-feeling very sore everyday but also moving around and trying to clean up all this mess! I am also having trouble with sleep using melatonin and some foot rubs from DH to get some sleep! My LE is acting up from surgery so ready to restart PT for sure!

Hi Maryjv and JRJN - glad to hear from you both and that you are doing better.

As for me, I am seeing improvement. Still on antibiotics 🙄. Today is the first day that the redness is much much better. I hope it continues that way. I still have about of week of antibiotics to take.

How are you Maryjv and JRJN? Let’s keep in touch, ok?

Im still fighting this infection...I’m on round 3 of antibiotics. Finishing on Tuesday. Don’t see it as being resolved. It’s still there. We’ll see what the doctor will say on Tuesday. Will ask for a referral to see an infection disease specialist. I don’t know what else to do. What would you do if you were in my situation? Any feedback is welcomed. Thanks.

Eigna-of course! I plan to continue to stay on here-This was such a life line for me during my treatments and now with reconstruction interesting to hear different stories and recoveries. I’m so sorry to hear that you continue with infection-I would agree with seeing specialist, have they tested to see what type of infection you have-always helpful in determining which antinibiotics are most effective...I know we do that for dialysis patients with infections

Eigna, So sorry you still have the infection. I was going to say the same thing as Maryjv. My PS tested my infection after bmx to pick the right antibiotics. But it still didn't work, the TEs had to come out. I think it was a blessing in disguise. Over a year later I'm planning DIEP in January. You might want to start a new topic on the surgery thread to see if anyone has had a similar experience with a lumpectomy. Sounds unusual to me, but I only searched TE infections when I was going through it. I'm still struggling with my meds. My head feels better and I'm sleeping a little better, but every inch of my body hurts, it hurts to pick up the water pitcher and it hurts to walk. But I push myself to keep moving and working on my house. It hurts more when you wake up in the morning and everything is stiff and swollen.

JRNJ-so sorry you are feeling so bad, what meds are causing you such pain???? I will share my experience with DIEP so far...the recovery has been much easier for me than the mastectomies!!!! It’s been one month and I was already feeling good last week when the final drain came out! Now I can sleep on my sides, and back to cleaning and cooking!!! I am massaging the boobs and just getting ready for the 2nd phase of surgery which I will have liposuction (yay) to fill in the boobs even more and recreate nipples. I am very happy with my healing, the belly button and the fact that my abdominal scar is very low!! Let me know if you have any questions I can help you when you need!

Maryjv, that fantastic that the surgery is going so well!!! I don't want to get my hopes up, so far things have not gone according to plan. How long do they wait after DIEP to do the fat grafting? I'm hoping to do that too, but no nipple reconstruction, I'll get the tattoos. The Arimidex, combined with the ovary removal, is causing the pain. No estrogen in my body. Muscle, joint and/or bone pain. My hair growth has slowed down too, and my face is getting more crinkly. My hair looks like yours, but not as good, short, brown and really curly.

JRNJ-3 months wait until phase 2...not scheduled yet at this point. I have been pushed into menopause so I completely understand the joint pain and hot flashes! Right now not feeling the joint pain or hot flashes...wondering if My body is adjusting now? I am taking metformin, glucosamine and turmeric at this time! No other active treatments because I am TN, just seeing my MO every 2-3 months..labs .and scans when something is off! Glad to hear your hair is growing in! My hair is growing super fast but I have always been very hairy

Hi Maryjv and JRJN - no they haven’t tested to see what kind of bacteria I have. I’m so confused. I don’t know what to do. It is better than it was initially but it’s not 100% resolved ( I have this part on the side that is more thick and peau D’Orange which I did a biopsy and it came out negative) Should I wait and see what happens after I finish my meds? JRJN - what is TE?? And yes I started a new thread but didn’t get much responses. One said it could be lymphedema but my BS doesn’t believe it’s that. Dunno what to do. Should I wait and see or should I push to be seen by an infection specialist? I’ve been taking 6 weeks straight of antibiotics!!!

  • maryjv
    maryjv Member Posts: 269

I would find out if they can test and see what bacteria is growing, if not then def referral To infection specialist to find out/rule out infection...6 weeks of antibiotics seems like a long time and I’m sure your concern continues to grow. With that being said, I am very glad that the biopsy was negative to help ease your mind in that respect. I pray it clears up very soon and you get answers!!

    hi Eigna,

So sorry you are having so many problems! my opinion is you should go to an infectious disease doc, just for your peace of mind.... what can it hurt?

I’m trying to find the details of your infection but it’s late and I’ll look more tomorrow .

Hope everyone else is doing well.

    Love to all

Thanks Margo for your reply. I will definitely consult with the infection disease specialist this week to see what is going on.

As for my symptoms. It started with a red rash, warmth and swelling. Inner side of the breast I have peau d'orange texture which a punch biopsy was done and turned out negative. Mammogram is scheduled for November which in my opinion it is too far away...I had two weeks of Clindamycin, then two weeks of Amox Clav followed by two more weeks of Amox Clav. I'm finishing meds on Tuesday.

Any advice or your thoughts is more than welcomed. Thanks 🙏

So I'm off from the antibiotics and doctor say it will just get better. She said the redness and the swelling will take months to resolve but it will get better. If I see it gets worse I just need to get in contact with her again. Hope it will be ok 🤞. Thank you all for your support Will let you know how it goes in a few days...

Maryjv, I've always been really hairy too, and my hair always grew fast. It's still growing, and it's thick, just not as fast as before. I so happy for you, that you are healing so well!! How many weeks did you take off work? I'm planning 8.

Eigna, Glad you are off the antibiotics! Hope the symptoms go away. Maybe our bodies just need a lot of time to recover from all the trauma they've been through.

I just realized it's been a year since my bmx. You just get used to a lot of weird feelings you didn't have before I guess. My main struggle is pain and numbness in my arms, hands and feet. I push through the pain and try to do the things I always have. As long as I can get a decent nights sleep, that is the most important to functioning. I'm working from home. Would rather not be working, but it's better than commuting almost an hour.
