On Sunday, I took dh to the ER and turns out he had a ruptured appendix! He had immediate surgery to get it out and I finally brought him home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. Dh is in his early 60s, always keeping busy and no health issues up to this point, so the appendectomy has knocked him somewhat for a loop. He still has a drain in and isn’t out of the woods just yet. We are hoping antibiotics keep infection at bay. He’s constipated from pain meds and I hope once the bowels start moving it helps relieve his level of discomfort somewhat. They gave him Miralax and I bought bananas, prunes and am making a large salad to get some roughage in him.
So here’s the side story. Surgeon called to do surgery comes in ahead of time, shakes dh’s hand. Goes to shake mine, I give him an elbow bump instead. Surgeon makes a joke about how the virus was supposed to be gone after the election. I go to waiting room and one other very talkative gal was there, we are both wearing masks. She leaves an hour later, then 15 minutes after that, dh’s surgeon comes in and kind of makes fun of me because I am in an empty room wearing a mask. I’d had it on for hours, so I had gotten somewhat used to it. His mask is hanging off of one ear while he sits across from me.
I don’t see him again until yesterday when he comes in dh’s room to discharge him. His mask is only covering up his mouth, not his nose, He takes it off as he starts talking. He shakes dh’s hand upon leaving but I just sit there and there is not interaction between he and I.
Absolutely every person except patients were wearing masks the entire few days I was in and out of the place; I noticed some nurses had double masks on. County is in red, so temp is taken when entering, name tags given, only one visitor per patient and that same visitor only allowed the whole time patient is there.
WTF! Catholic hospital owned by big Catholic company. Googled the doctor, he has something of a checkered past. Omg.

Good Grief, Divine! That doctor story is very disturbing! Hope DH has an uneventful recovery. Keep pushing the fluids along with everything else you are doing. I get terribly constipated from pain meds too so know how awful that can be!

Divine: Do not use the bananas for constipation. True they provide bulk but they are used to treat diarrhea and were once part of the nutritionally challenged BRAT diet used for diatthea in children. BRAT is no longer advocated. Give him fruit with a skin such as apples, pears, etc. and the prunes are good as well since they all provide fiber. Have him drink lots of fluids as well unless he has cardiac issues.

Good luck Glennie, Chevy, Divine, and everyone else overcoming challenges right now. BTW Divine, please report that doctor to the hospital's patient advocacy office if you haven't already. That kind of irresponsible behavior around surgical patients is ridiculous and endangers both the patient and the post-surgical home caregiver. Stupid actions deserve consequences.
Regarding the pardon-palooza, he can't pardon anyone preemptively. So all prosecutors have to do is quietly gather evidence and wait until he's no longer president, then roll out the indictments. The sharks are already circling...

I use Afrin daily for many many years. I've tried to stop many times and can't.

Divine...I wish a speedy recovery for your husband.

Only have time for quick comment: Divine,,, I agree,,, report that doctor!! He should not have been shaking hands and should have been wearing mask at all times!! And good for you for keeping it on the whole time, even when alone!! Hospitals are a hot bed of germs at normal times.
Constipation from pain meds suck. Do you have Miralax at home? You can get at the drugstore.
And thank you everyone for your supportive comments! I really appreciate it! When you live alone, and have to do all this stuff yourself, it does get overwhelming. At least, I have the car sorted now. Taking to the body shop on Monday, and the rental car people will pick me up there. So it's one thing down!
2020 needs to calm the f**k down! Who needs all this new crap in December? We are still dealing with the election crap. UGH!!

Thanks you guys! Now Jacksie.... I KNOW how you feel.... I was in a panic, that first night that I thought I have to stop! I knew I had a new nasal-spray, a generic for Flonase... the pharmacist said I could use that once a day... I thought, "yeah, right".... But I tried going cold-turkey... couldn't breathe.... I got up, called another Pharmacist, in a panic, he said NO... do NOT use that other spray... Afrin! I held my head over a boiling pot of water...
I finally gave up, sat up on the couch, and tried to breathe through my mouth... After about an hour, my mouth was not open as much!!! So I propped up some pillows, went to bed, and tried to breathe a little through my nose! I SLEPT!!! And no nose spray! Still no nose spray, and it's been 3 or 4 days now! I kicked it!
Then it was Sandy who explained it all to me... Both Pharmacists said it would take "a couple days" before I could breathe... But I did it by the next day!
So now I will rinse my damn nose with the Ayr solution, which is a saline solution, And use my NeilMed sinus rinse .... but NOT any nasal spray..... Thing is... I CAN BREATHE!
Okay, Divine!!! Damn girl! Ruptured appendix??? THAT is not anything to mess with... I know! When I was 15, I was also taken to the hospital... same thing....! And that DRAIN! Eeeeeks! But I made it... So painful before the surgery! Mine burst the night before they took me... My folks thought I had the flu... or something.
So if you guys have anything else wrong... we can all talk about it, and together, we can fix anything... Hah!

Divine -- oh golly. If Dh has been mostly well, then this is something of a shock and he likely didn't even much notice that goofy Dr. making all the mistakes. Should I say this -- he sounds like a Trump Republican. I think many of us have done the pain meds constipation thing. A nurse told me to put the Miralax in warm apple juice. I never did it because by the time I got out of the hospital I didn't need the Miralax anymore. Hope you both end up well and did not bring home anything from that hospital that you wouldn't want -- for either of you. Well wishes with lots of love and hope sent your way.
Trump is trying to cause as much uproar as he can -- probably partly in a panic. Nothing much is working out for him. That terrible Biden had to go and get all those votes and so the election wasn't near close enough for him to steal. Well, he and Giuliani ( head honchos' for the gang that couldn't shoot straight ) then went on their rampages to get court cases filed when there was not proof of anything. It wasn't enough to get hamulated by a super loss, but being either laughed out of court, or admonished severely out of court as well. Then people ( no names here ) come out and tell you to get over it and no evidence of election malfeasance ( on the Democratic sided ) can be found.
There is jail, and there are massive fines and that hasn't even mentioned the recent bribe attempt that has now surfaced. The stupid orange thing just hangs in there and then goes on his 47 minute rant ( taped of course so he doesn't get exposed to the possibility of being asked possibly embarrassing questions which would make him duck and run. ) He doesn't know how to extricate himself from this hideous missing in action mess. His mealy - mouthed I will leave if the Electoral College gives it to Biden as though there was a true choice. You lost ( said with tongue in cheek ) sir. By a lot ( TIC ) sir. Start packing and the Christmas hater needs to do the same. We would like to have all of you grifters out of there. We can't wait.

Noting that djt continues to raise funds purportedly to challenge the election results but understand he is free to use the $ as he wishes with no requirement that the $ be used for legal costs. Is anyone tracking expenditures?

Illinois - thank you for the comment with the picture of the swearing in of a new senator. A good reminder that we are becoming more diverse, even if very gradually.
Beaver - I too have wondered how much has been spent on the attempts to kill our democracy. I wish Trump had to pay for these costs. Everytime DJT loses another court battle I celebrate. I celebrated again when Barr said there was no widespread fraud. I'm surprised DJT has not tweated him out of office.
It is so sad to keep hearing how much damage he can do

I saw that documented side effects of covid-19 are erectile dysfunction and male sterility. If they can't reproduce, how long until anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers just disappear from the population?
0 -
Erectile dysfunction and male sterility would do more than anything else to encourage masks and social distancing. I have not heard this on any discussions, but just google it. It definitely needs to be in the discussion. Would make an interesting mask.

Coronavirus Instantly Cured After Scientists Discover It Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction
If only. xD
Most docs think ED is a comorbidity caused by increased stress, alcohol, and smoking rather than the virus itself. But it still makes for a great comment to toss in.

Yes, I totally loved the meme of Mark Kelly, Pence and the woman Senator holding the Bible.
I rarely watch The View but had it on while I changed bedsheets today, and Ana Navarro (I like her) also mentioned the purple wig wearing woman holding the Bible for Mark Kelly:
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema wore a short purple wig and zebra-print shawl as she held the bible that Mike Kelly used while taking the oath of office.
Sinema's ensemble caught some off guard as it was starkly different from the suits that Kelly and Vice President Mike Pence were wearing.
However, Sinema's wig is not new. Actually, she's been wearing it and other colored wigs on the Senate floor throughout the pandemic for a special reason.
A spokesperson for Sinema told The Arizona Republic that the senator is wearing the cheap wigs to show her solidarity with Americans who are practicing social distancing, especially hair salons, to avoid the spread of the coronavirus during the pandemic.
Sinema is normally a platinum blonde with the help of hair dye and the wigs help cover her natural color as she avoids getting her hair done.
"Kyrsten is continuing to call attention to the need for all of us to stay home as much as possible and practice social distancing — which she is diligently practicing, including from her hair salon," wrote spokesperson Hannah Hurley.

I had to laugh when I saw the picture of Kristen Sinema in her lavender wig. That's pretty close to the color my hair has been for the past three and a half years. I did it as a joke for my breast surgeon when I was having my mastectomy done, and ended up loving it. While I may not look as good as she does, especially since I'm 62, I still get constant compliments on it. Mainly from younger men. Who know men liked purple so much?

Now this is scary - calls for tRump to "immediately declare a limited form of Martial Law, and temporarily suspend the Constitution and civilian control of these federal elections, for the sole purpose of having the military oversee a national re-vote." YIKES!
Don't Ignore Trump's Psychotic Speech
By Matthew Rothschild, Executive Director, Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, December 3, 2020
On Dec. 2, Donald Trump gave a psychotic, 46-minute speech, claiming it was "statistically impossible" that he lost the election and regurgitating dozens of his discredited claims about voter fraud.
But his unwillingness to accept reality was not the scariest part of his speech – not by a long shot.
The scariest part was his blunt assertion that he intends to overturn the election.
"The results of the individual swing states must be overturned and overturned immediately," he said. "Some people say that's far out. That's too harsh. Well, does that mean we take a president, and we've just elected a president, where the votes were fraudulent? No, that means you have to turn over an election."
He wrapped his subversive intent in red, white, and blue. "As President, I have no higher duty than to defend the laws and Constitution of the United States," he said. "That is why I am determined to protect our election system under coordinated assault and siege."
He urged the U.S. Supreme Court to come to his rescue. And he concluded by saying: "This is about restoring faith and confidence in our democracy…If we don't root out the fraud, the tremendous and horrible fraud that has taken place in our election, we don't have a country anymore."
And what if the U.S. Supreme Court doesn't rescue him? Will he give up then?
Just hours before Trump's speech, the disgraced but pardoned Gen. Michael Flynn endorsed a call for martial law. So did one of Trump's lawyers, Lin Wood. They both approvingly pointed to a full-page ad in the Washington Times that very morning that said:
"The Socialist Left … openly staged a four year long coup attempt to remove the duly elected President. Culminating in this corrupt and probably fraudulent current election planned to illegally and un-constitutionally deny the American people their most sacred honor, right and privilege - which is the right to elect their Representatives! How can we have a Representative Republic if we cannot hold fair elections to elect our Representatives? There is no doubt that this attempted stealing of these elections ... requires exercising extraordinary authority to preserve our Union … You must be ready Mr. President to immediately declare a limited form of Martial Law, and temporarily suspend the Constitution and civilian control of these federal elections, for the sole purpose of having the military oversee a national re-vote."
Trump, in his talk, echoed this: "Maybe you'll have a re-vote," he said, though he added, "I don't think that's appropriate."
Former General Thomas McInerney, on the same day as Trump's speech, also urged him to "declare martial law."
This is unprecedented subversion!
And the mainstream media shouldn't ignore it or belittle it. CNN tried to dismiss Trump's speech, and barely gave it any air time or discussion. The New York Times minimized it, and the Washington Post called it "petulant." And I didn't see much coverage of the pleas for "martial law" in our major outlets.
But minimizing this explicit call by a sitting President to overturn an election, and by ignoring the drumbeat for martial law, the mainstream media isn't making such an outcome less likely.
Quite the contrary.
We've never been at this place before in our democracy, and the imminent threat that Donald Trump poses to our democracy must be taken seriously.

Trump mulls preemptive pardons for up to 20 allies, even as Republicans balk.
The clemency would be unprecedented, and some Republicans are expressing initial hesitation. But they're not telling Trump to stop.
By Anita Kumar and Andrew Desidero, POLITICO, 12/03/2020 07:09 PM EST
President Donald Trump is considering preemptively pardoning as many as 20 aides and associates before leaving office, frustrating Republicans who believe offering legal reprieves to his friends and family members could backfire.
Trump's strategy, like much of his presidency, is nontraditional. He is eschewing the typical protocol of processing cases through the Justice Department. And he may argue that such preemptive pardons for his friends and family members are necessary to spare them from paying millions in legal fees to fight what he describes as witch hunts. Those up for clemency include everyone from Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, to several members of his family — all people who haven't been charged with a crime. Weighing on Trump's mind is whether these pardons would look like an admission of guilt.
