The Texas AG, Ken Paxton, has been indicted on securities fraud charges. Some of his staff asked federal authorities to investigate him for alleged abuse of office, bribery and other potential criminal charges. Maybe he's angling for a pardon?

    Ruth, aren't they? Stunning...

Speaking more of numbers, it was SCOTUS--9 TRUMP-- 0 on the PA thing. ACB voted NO on this one too I think....so the great Mitch idea of a friendly court's not panning out too well for DT....

As for numbers Trump lawsuits and or -- he is 1 for 50 and I thought I read a couple to three days ago that the only reason there is one for Trump was due to some sort of technicality. He justs keep right on losing -- using it more like a badge of honor or rather something to help him keep his followers up in arms since he has convinced them that their was electoral hanky-panky by the Democrats.

I personally think he is making much more of a disgrace of hinself. I'm a bit baffled why some of the Reps are really thinking something happened ( cheating on our side ) when it didn't. Apparently there are people in the party I credited with more brains and brain power than they actually come close to possessing. I hope when it comes time for them to run again that recent history will have the goods, memes, video's or whatever else it will take to remind everyone they have developed bats in the belfrey syndrome and can no longer be trusted.

The GOP have taken every precaution to suppress Democratic & minority votes, but it didn't work. So why are they accusing Dems of "stealing" the election? Because stealing is the only way the GOP knows how to win, and therefore our "stealing" was more successful than theirs. This harkens back to 1992--when, after 12 solid years of the Reagan/Bush dismantling of the New Deal, and the right-wing religious-fundamentalists' hegemony, Clinton/Gore won the Presidency; the GOP was so shocked that this could happen in a "center-right nation" that they were sure the only way Dems could win was by cheating. Hillary was spot-on in her 1996 accusation of a "vast right-wing conspiracy," but she uttered it too early to be taken seriously by all but the furthest-left media. Since then, the GOP has gone into overdrive with gerrymandering, dark money, and the like, firing up "Project RedMap" in the wake of Obama's 2008 victory. Largely below the radar till the Citizens United decision, we awakened to it too late.

So why, in the light of a 6-3 conservative (including 3 Trump appointees) SCOTUS unanimously and curtly denying cert in the PA AG's case, and every single state having certified election results by yesterday's "safe harbor" deadline, Trump losing 50 of 51 suits (today, after that SCOTUS loss, 15 GOP state gov'ts filed for reconsideration and for all swing-state election results to be overturned), do 85% of Congressional Repubs. refuse to acknowledge Biden won? Self-preservation. Because they fear for their jobs if they admit reality. Right-wing nut voters who have created their own custom-made "alternative facts" and believe that their opinions outweigh facts control the party--and if officeholders call them out on it, they will be primaried out of their seats come Nov. 2022. (Or 2021, if they're state or local officeholders). They have therefore proven that they are incapable of earning a living outside of either elected office or as sycophants on right-wing media. Not even Wall or K St. would touch most of them.

Conspiracy theories inspire and empower disaffected right-wing white Christians (mostly male, and some Orthodox Jews for whom Israel is as much of a "single-issue" motivator as abortion is for Evangelicals and the threat of diversity is for racists). They feel left behind by the system, and will embrace any "change" candidate who will blow up said system without destroying their white male Christian advantage. Snubbed by the intellectuals who taught & disciplined or surpassed them in school and then the job market, "alternative facts" make them feel intellectually superior to we "sheeple" because they now believe they're privy to information we don't have. And even if they don't have a pot to piss in nor a window to toss it out of, nobody can take Jesus, their gender or their white skin from them. And they are willing to put up with living under an autocracy run by a corrupt, sinful and increasingly demented symbol so long, and cast their lot with him, so long as he gives them what they want, tells them what they want to hear, and convinces them that just like them he is the victim. If it means that democracy threatens them, they are willing to sacrifice it.

(Without the personal corruption, sin, or lunacy--but in his second term with the subtler dementia--Reagan was similarly able to get people to vote against their own interests by hoodwinking them into believing that only the wealthy corporate elite could make it possible for them to fulfill their own aspirations. The difference, though, was that after years of working for GE, Reagan naively actually swallowed its corporate b.s. about gov't. regulation being evil and the private sector being the salvation of solvency and social morality).

Not just that, but they believe societal advantage is a zero-sum game. The advantaged majority has survived as such by discriminating against

I was checking the news tonight and heard about the investigation of Hunter Biden's taxes.....

Uh-oh, I thought, what's this now? A scandal? Massive wrongdoing uncovered? (Trump crowing etc?)

Then I stopped and thought about it.

If you lined up all the investigations, questions, probings, etc that have involved the doings of Donald Trump over the past four years (not counting the crap he got away with BEFORE he was president), including his lawyers, sycophants, appointees, enablers, "fixers," "clean-up guys"--as well as the massive circumspection regarding his nepotism and how his KIDS have made beaucoup bucks as his "counselors" thanks to the "jobs" he gave them-- you'd have yourself a wall between the US and Mexico--albeit made of paper and not tougher materials. Still--a WALL!

Music to the ears is the above. Especially on getting home to find that some of the Trump people are being very threating. I hope and pray it comes to nothing but I do think if anyone steps out of line it could go quite wrong for them. I think it could be possible some could already be being watched closely and not know it -- but it is just a guess on my part.

Biden ( despite all the goings-on at the moment ) will be sworn in and the orange thing will pick up and leave. Could actually do so early as I can't see him hanging around doing nothing on Inauguration Day. He will do something -- just not at the White House. I'm wondering if it will be properly fumigated and cleaned from the rampant Covid. The parties will have added more layers to what is already there. If I were a staffer there I'd be doing as much 'remote ' work as possible.

Trump really can't much get embarrassed can he, but Sandy I think if the Supreme Court rebuffs the next try ( and I think they will ) boy howdy is Trump going to be livid about his judge's not coming through for him. It's a great job and none of them want to lose it. Trump does not understand how things work at all. Never having done anything ' honest ' in his life, he just can't see WHY anyone would. Even Supreme Court judges who are bound to certain rules and standards that just don't bend -- a little sway maybe, but disenfranchisement of four states worth of voters is not a bend or a sway -- its a criminal act.

Sandy, you have such a marvelous way of explaining the machinations of the Repugnicans and how they work so hard to preserve the white privilege for their masses. Glad that we will not get to observe the drumpf as he slips into senility like Reagan.

Love the memes posted today especially the one on one of the developers of the vaccine who was an immigrant to Germany. Think that will keep drumpf from getting the vaccine?

Like how Melania was trying to get the taxpayers to pay for her future plans as the ex-FLOTUS and finding out she will not get any taxpayer dollars to do so. She is supposed to want to keep pushing her Be Best campaign which to this day, I am not sure of what is the objective? If it truly was anti-bullying, she needs to start at home first before she tries to influence others. Seems she plans on writing a book as well, doubt it will ever be a best seller given her lack of command of the English language, her lack of interest in being FLOTUS other than as arm candy/fashion model and what could she possibly include as her contribution to the US as FLOTUS? Her Christmas decorating was a bomb, the Rose garden was a flop and no one was overly enthused about the new tennis pavilion. It also seems the Mar-a -lago quarters will be much tighter than those of their NYC penthouse since they cannot make major changes as it is regarded as a historical property. What a pity!

17 states and Trump join Texas' lawsuit. It's still a doomed Supreme Court stunt.

When (not if) the Supreme Court slams the door on this contemptuous Texas case, the collateral damage will be to the reputation of the courts.

By Steve Vladeck, professor at the University of Texas School of Law, Dec. 9, 2020, 4:43 PM CST

For all of the (many) lawsuits that President Donald Trump and his supporters have filed challenging the 2020 election results, the new winner for hubris and cynicism may be the action that the state of Texas filed directly in the Supreme Court late Monday night, asking the justices to throw out the results in four (but only four) battleground states: Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. So far, 17 states have filed motions backing the Texas attorney general, and Trump has asked the Supreme Court to let him join the lawsuit, as well.

Texas is relying on an obscure source of the Supreme Court's power — its ability to hear disputes between states immediately without having them go through lower courts, known as "original jurisdiction." But the claim at the heart of the suit has nothing to do with interstate relations — like a border dispute or litigation over water rights. Nor does it have anything to do with fraud. Rather, Texas is arguing that coronavirus-related changes to election rules in each state violate the federal Constitution, never mind that most states (including Texas) made such changes this cycle.

But hypocrisy aside, the suit is also a perfect microcosm for so many of the other cases we've seen filed in the past month: It is lacking in actual evidence; it is deeply cynical; it evinces stunning disrespect for both the role of the courts in our constitutional system and of the states in our elections; and it is doomed to fail.

Hospitality means we take people into the space that is our lives and our minds and our hearts and our work and our efforts. Hospitality is the way we come out of ourselves. It is the first step towards dismantling the barriers of the world. Hospitality is the way we turn a prejudiced world around, one heart at a time. -Joan D. Chittister
