Blunt is from the " Show Me" state and Blunt should talk to Susan Collins --- because Trump already showed her how well he learned his lesson.
GOP Senator Thinks Trump Learned His Lesson And Won't Try To Overthrow The Government Again
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) gave his version of Trump learned his lesson and claimed that the outgoing president wouldn't try to overthrow the government again.

Please stop questioning Jelson's intentions. She's posted here before and is not a troll.

So drop it about Jelson. We all need to know more than we do. And we are all guilty of only watching/reading things that agree with our personal viewpoints. So now we've seen the other side when it isn't rioting w/horns & furs and face paint.

Serenity, sorry, I didn't see that..glad you did..I watched it ten times!

ChiSandy - I live in a Blue City in a Blue State. There has been no reason for me to actively campaign for any city, county or state politicians in whose districts I actually live because their elections are assured. So instead I contribute and write letters and post cards for progressive politicians in neighboring districts and other states. I don't watch Fox News or listen to right-wing radio - All except 3 of my FB "friends" are liberal Democrats. I read Huffpost and CommonDreams and this thread. I also choose not to read sad books. I am not proud of this, but this is indeed my bubble, much more restricted since the pandemic. This is why I found the post I cut and pasted here so remarkable and I thought without having to point it out, so frightening - in that it was so calmly insane. Perhaps it wouldn't have struck me so hard if I had conversations with people who held the author's view point, but I don't. I guess for those on this thread who have to endure it in their actual lives, they don't want to read it here too, then I apologize, but my perspective on current events is in no way aligned with the fellow whose words I shared.

Serenity-- You said it!

The point remains is that this is not a thread for the opposing viewpoints. It was created by invitation-only (as was the Mirror) after several BCOers began posting pro-Trump stuff back in 2015 and things got very heated. There should be a way to read opposing viewpoints but on a "read-only" basis, without comment. (When the AGF reopened the Open Mic non-guitar discussion thread after killing off the Loading Dock once and for all, not only were political and religious posts banned but only dues-paying members could access it).

Jelson- don't apologize. We need to understand the frightening reality on the other side. Calmly insane is a good description.

Invitation only? Then I must apologize. I was never invited. Before I go, I don't think Jelson needs to apologize. Gotta say, ChiSandy. I absolutely do not like your last post.

Ask the Mods. When the thread was created, I got a PM with the url and instructions not to divulge it to anyone I didn't invite. The url will not show up among "All Topics," in order to prevent trolling. And to this day I don't know the url for the "Mirror" thread, nor do I need to be invited. Heaven knows the Internet & social media are full of opposing viewpoints that are impossible to escape (not to mention my MAGA-addled BIL in VA and Bob's SW suburban patients in Chicagoland's Trump country). If I want to read opposing viewpoints, I go to Facebook and even my neighborhood forum on Nextdoor.com. But I don't need them expressed here in this thread. Given examples as a warning that they exist, ok. But advocated here? Nope.
I know many if not most here do not remember a time before there were this two opposing threads, but those of us who joined before 2016 were pretty much "present at the creation."
Jelson, if you posted the Oakes piece as an example of the other side, fine. But if you're suggesting that this thread should allow advocacy of those on the "right of the aisle," nope. That's what the Mirror is for. Perhaps ask for an invitation--I know there are a couple of members here with access to both, but who don't post there. (Perhaps they'll PM you the url).
Again, BCO does NOT have an "open political forum" thread. If you don't believe me, ask the Mods.

Give it a rest Sandy. Jelson was posting something that is frightening, just like the pictures of people storming congress. She was NOT advocating this point of view. We DO need to be aware of this.

I doubt anyone here is not "aware" of those viewpoints, unless they've been living under the proverbial rock.
Jelson, why don't you clarify why you posted it? That should settle things once and for all.

Yes, I’ve been here on BCO long enough to remember both threads. And who was the main big mouth on Mirror thread, who accused me and someone else on this thread of cyberstalking her. We didn’t. Chevy would remember. It did get ugly. Really ugly. So the Mods split them. And locked them both.
This thread doesn’t show up in Active for that reason. The Mirror thread has been inactive for over a year. Guess they went to FB.
We are fortunate to have this place. Suggest everyone cool down a bit.

This made me smile.

I seem to remember that insane cyberstalking accusation, though I was hoping to forget it. Fortunately, I was able to forget the details and the perpetrator.

Thank dog she seems to have disappeared. I knew her in real life. No more.

Some interesting Kyle Griffin posts....
(I really like Joe Manchin....)
(Isn't Trump such a sweet guy...such a nice guy?)
(Wow....)

I too remember the contentious posts before the thread was split. I am very glad that the mods did that and that is why I always let the occasional gadfly know that this is not the place for debate. Incidentally, though neither this thread nor the mirror thread* come up in active topics, they do come up in the search function so can be viewed that way, no invites needed!
* Yes, I know that thread is dormant

I remember the very unpleasant back & forth on the combined thread. Since BCO is supposed to be a place of support, not more stress, the moderators rightfully split the groups with the understanding that no one would cross post to the 'other side's' thread. Since the thread isn't listed on the Active Topics, most people get here by invitation. But anyone who is scrolling through All Topics can find it (and it does have an interesting name); so others can stumble upon it very innocently. There are no 'rules' listed on the top of the page. This is just my opinion, but I always give anyone new who is shocked or who wants to argue, the benefit of the doubt and an explanation before I get upset by anything they say.

Yes, years ago, Spookie and I were together on a thread, with another gal.... And to this day I don't remember WHAT happened to get her to go after Spookie... I mean she threatened her! She got all up on her high horse, and it was so frightening, I even got scared! And she never turned back! She was warned several times... She sent Spooky private messages, which were un-believable.... I don't know how many of us reported her to the Mods.... She was warned several times...
But in her mind, she had every right to say whatever she wanted. She threatened legal action, because her Son was an attorney... She fought for her "freedom of speech"....
Finally the Mods had had enough.... She is/was on FB.... Don't know if she is still active... I'm afraid to look! But YES, she would have been right there in the middle of the riot!
So I guess we are just protective of this blog.... We can talk, and not be threatened or afraid of someone coming after us... Except maybe just ..... one.

I’ll address the opposing viewpoint matter once more and then be done. It is okay if someone wants to describe themselves as living in a bubble, but please don’t make a blanket statement that it applies to all of us on this thread.
I'm glad, Jelson, that you let us know about your loyalties to the liberal cause. Like Sandy said, tho, none of us have to go far to pick up on Republicans and MAGAts point of view. We’ve been exposed to and outraged by it for over four years now, and like one of the memes says, just when you think they can’t go any lower, they do. And that is a constant!
In clarifying your post, I think I understand better where you were coming from.
So Senator Roy Blunt says he doesn’t think Trump will “try to overthrow the government AGAIN.”????? This means he sees Trump as guilty of the first coup attempt! Blunt is someone living in a bubble! Trump WILL try it again. He lives for destruction.
I was on this thread the night before January 6 saying I was worried about what might happen. I’m a woman living in a small town on the edge of Appalachia and I was not surprised by the Capital breach. How does a sitting Senator not see the out of control MAGAts nor understand what they are capable of? We had to put up with intimidation tactics of Trump trains in my area for months before the election. MAGAts would stand on a busy street intersection in the county wearing their Trump gear, waving their flags and scream at cars passing. MAGAts disgustingly harrassed elderly people walking on to a Biden bus as they picked up political paraphenalia. MAGAts wrote letters to the editor of the local paper accusing liberals in our area of horrific, untrue things. I know what they are capable of.
They are even more riled up and their threats are increasing. I’m worried.
Rep Jim Jordan, Ohio, is a disgusting pos. Him and his fat yellow tie. (His type are the kinds of men I’ve been surrounded by my entire life and it’s only in recent years that I understood the impact it’s had on me.) Jordan thought he was hot stuff when Trump and the Republicans ruled. I would love to see him get a just comeuppance now that he is lesser.

Taken from a friend's Facebook post. I don't know it he wrote it himself, or got it from someone else.
"In case you are confused, here is some guidance: Huge numbers of our population believe in a complete alternate reality. Alternate facts, as it were. But just as intensely as I believe they are deluded, they think I am the one who is deluded. Maybe I am.
So how can I be confident in my perception? It can be quite difficult. But I have found that in times of confusion, particularly when emotions are running high and creating tunnel vision, the presence of Nazis can be an extremely helpful indicator.
If I am attending a local demonstration or event and I see Nazis…Neo-Nazis, miscellaneous-Nazis, or the latest-whatever-uber-mythology-Nazis, I figure out which side they are on. And if they are on my side of the demonstration? I am on the wrong side.
It is tough to argue moral equivalence when I am standing next to a Nazi. Look to my right. Is there a guy wearing a 6MWE (6 million wasn't enough) t-shirt? I am on the wrong side.
Look to my left. If that guy is wearing a Camp Auschwitz t-shirt? Wrong side.
Speakers referring to things Hitler got right? Wrong side.
Team-spirit face paint and hat with horns? This is an unclear indicator that could mean anything, but safest to keep my distance from that guy, even at a football game.
But I can always, always, always, rely on the presence of Nazis as a guiding light through a fog of disinformation. Some things are relative, but evil and good are absolute."
