The fruitcake who posted on FB about a peaceful march must have been drunk. There was nothing peaceful about that march and everything that was scary, unsettling; it was hard to believe that others could hate so much and believe the lies that trump and his minions spread for the past 4 years.
I am white, I am not privileged (but am sure that some POC might disagree) and do not believe I regard myself as superior to anyone and do make an effort to understand other's POV. I can remember as a child seeing chain gangs in the south and not understanding why they were chained together with armed guards, seeing "colored" water fountains and being young enough and naive enough to think the water was colored, not that it referred to a people. I was not raised as a racist, trained as a nurse in a city based hospital where I was in the minority and for the first time ever, experienced racism. Seeing what occurred on the 6th was so distressing and the thoughts it could occur again next week is frightening.
The cake above is beautiful and speaks volumes about unity.
Jelson: I am unsure if you are in agreement with the FB poster or not in agreement. It is hard to discern. Either way, I find this post offensive even if the intent was to enlighten with a POV.

Betrayal, I agree with your comments on Jelson's post. This is a liberal thread and does not exist in order to entertain other points of view. I will never look at January 6th's event and think “just a few people caused harm." BULLSHIT. FOUR PEOPLE DIED. The suicide of another person since then may be tied to the riot. I have seen several offensive videos of Trumpers pouring, pouring out of the Capitol SCREAMING at the cameras about how they wanted justice for America. These were not actors. Their rank and file was all over social media in the days leading up to riot, urging people to attend and “take back their nation". There were calls for violence and combat. We see the tatoos and the tshirts and the messages they send. These people proudly share these images on social media, so there is no mistake who they are and where their true loyalties lie. The people who broke into the Capitol were there to prevent the peaceful transfer of power in our government. They are domestic terrorists. I know what I saw and heard with my own eyes, and I do not, do not, need someone else to interpret it for me.

France exiled Napoleon. It is time to do the same with Trump. Anywhere on earth is too close and allows access to social media. Even somewhere else within the solar system might be too close.

The "Oakes post" was like----what the f------???? I mean, that is so, so, so OUT OF TOUCH with what was going on!!!
I can't help but think that 99% of the Trumpers are mentally ill AND ignorant. If they even LISTENED to one clip of that madness they would have heard the MAGA cries and shouts and uttered comments about their cause/fight/issues etc. How could you NOT HEAR THAT AND GET WHAT WAS GOING ON???
But the bigger fact is---they don't NEED anyone coming and intensifying things--they are whack-a-doodle enough!
And what was with that Trump-like "millions" and "millions" of attendees?? That sound so much like Trump Talk---exaggerating any glimmer that makes them look better or important (like saying you're worth more than you are to guarantee a loan for instance...hope the SDNY gets him on some of that)
Tens of thousands is a far cry from "millions" ......
God bless America! I can't wait for this mob (and its mob mentality) to slink back to the hinterlands from whence they have come.....am so sick of them....let them and their ilk and offspring nuture their conspiracy theories and bunker mentalities....

Time out! I did not read Jelson as posting the Oakes post as her agreeing with it at all. It was just to illustrate the nonsense that Trumpers read.

Alfie Oakes is a rich Trumper who chartered a bus from Florida to DC to take COVIDIOTS to riot while he took a plane because that's how those rich Trumpers work. Let's hope he gets a visit from the FBI.

So if you gloat about terrorizing, airlines may no longer want your business! If you watch the video, doesn't it sound like he's on the verge of crying?
ETA: Yeah, he's crying. Is this what they call being a snowflake?

Trump should be exiled to Mars. I hear Elon Musk will let you go for free in exchange for indentured service. 👍👍👍

Don't think that mug is big enough to hold all the tears.

I agree with Serenity about Jelson's post! You may not want to hear it but tRumpsters think and say some crazy schitt. Believe me, I live with one. He tried with the 'it was Antifa' BS which I rebutted. The guy with the horns is a known QAnon nut job and has been arrested.
Major corporations are now saying they will cut off political donations to R's who voted against EC cert. Marriott and Blue Cross/Blue Shield are two mentioned on The Hill. GOOD!

Funny Trill. I needed a laugh. Thanks

They won't support anyone who incites violence. Excellent step in cutting off grift. I don't subscribe, but here's the link:

I didn't mean or think that Jelson is of the same mind as the Oakes fellow....I got that she was just posting to illustrate how whack-a-doodle Trumpers can be...
Glad you got a laugh out of it, Minus Two....we need some of those this week!!
Another note--I think I got this right that Kamala once she is VP can name her successor in the Senate...is that right?

The governor does and already did. Don't recall his name offhand.

This is Jelson's comment above her Alfie Oakes post, which I take to mean they are Jelson’s words.
“this post was forwarded to me by a FB acquaintance in FL. It is from owner of Oakes Farms. I am glad I received it because it is a reality check as for the most part I am in a bubble of like-minded people, you guys included, with little sharing of view points markedly different than mine.“
What do you mean by reality check, Jelson?
We are not going to apologize on this thread for not sharing “view points markedly different" from our liberal leanings. This is a liberal thread, intentionally created that way by Moderators so as to avoid arguing back and forth with conservative views.
I personally do not live in a bubble.

Governor Newsom has named Alex Padilla, our CA Secretary of State, to replace Kamala Harris. BTW, the happy dancer at the pre-coup pep rally, Kimberly Guilfoyle , is Newsom’s first wife. I don’t think this will ever stop amusing me.

Divine - I definitely live in a bubble, and I found Jelson's post informative. I learned Oakes is from Naples, FL, so now I want to contact a relative who lives there to make sure she stays out of his businesses.

I'm still pissed at MD Rep (R) Andy Harris. I'm glad that he doesn't represent me. I read in his statement below that some Marylanders called for him to resign. Good! I was wondering about that.......
Yeah, Andy, Congress has the right to object, but there are times when having the right to do something doesn't mean it would be right to do it.
You can be smart and know the "rules and regs" inside and out--and not have a grain of wisdom.
Get the rule of the law but not the spirit of it.
If in the bigger picture an action would cause more problems and inflame an already intense issue and not affect the outcome one iota I think it would be wrong to proceed with it. Many courts, presided over by judges from both the right and left, dealt with dozens of cases surrounding this election, looked into them, and rejected them.
But no--you want more.
You guys screwed up...
I can't help but believe that your decision just validated the rioters' positions on Wednesday, added fuel to their fire.
So, like, yeah.
Blood is on your hands.

Exbrnxgrl, thanks for that about the Gov. naming Harris's successor....and now I recall that the Kimberly gal was Newsom's ex....that's so funny!

I don't see myself in a bubble for the most part although there are plenty around me who are. Dh was having to listen to his brother ( rabid Reps. ) for two days in a row spouting about Trump not having done or said anything. How far my BIL had to have his own head up his own derrière to come up with that only he knows. These views ( and only watching Fox News etc. ) have put a real crimp in this family. Dh and I are the only Democrats here. There are a couple in other states but the majority of Dh's family was Reps.
I knew what Jelson meant and I was glad she put it in here as a majority of the time I feel like a party of one -- always trying to figure out how intelligent people ( and all of my BIL's and there were 7 with 2 other Dems besides my dh and three sil's Reps. ) Sadly the Dem bils passed on which now only leaves Dh and me representing Democrats. Both of the bil's here were engineers and yet to hear them talk politics I think --- dumb as a bucket of mud.
So, they only stick with rt. wing and I think some of that rt. extreme news and most of their friends and acquaintances belong to the local Reps. party going to almost all the meetings and functions. They would allow political talk ( although I put the kibosh on it when I'm around them ) but they WON'T allow you to disagree with their viewpoints. They always come up with a reason why you ( meaning myself and DH ) have it all wrong or backward. Long ago we learned we don't discuss when the subj. is politics -- we are told, and that's that.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Democrats are moving forward with trying to remove President Donald Trump from office days after he incited violent riots at the Capitol.
Pelosi told her members in a letter that the House would attempt to pass a measure Monday to call on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump from office. If he does not act, Democrats will proceed with impeaching Trump.
"In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both," she wrote.

This thread moves sooooo fast I can post and what I say won't make sense with the message just above. SO to clarify... What I found funny was the Fauci post about double dose for immunity from Trump.
But I agree with both Badger & Serenity – Jelson was just giving us am example what (how) the other side thinks. I was interested to see if from someone that doesn't have an ax to grind. Since I NEVER watch FOX news and delete all the right wing links my brother sends to me, I was OK with reading this. And I think we need to know our "enemies". I never turn on a TV. Seriously, I watched a football game 5 or 6 years ago I think. I read a Hearst newspaper & Time and The Atlantic and The Washington Post & Harpers… Doesn't that mean I'm in a bubble too?
And I live in Texas, so continue to be embarrassed by Cruz.

Pelosi Kills McConnell's Plan To Obstruct Biden With Trump Impeachment
Since impeachment would not get Trump immediately out of office, House Democrats are looking to stop McConnell from using impeachment to obstruct Biden.

In an interview minutes before the terrorists' march to the Capitol, one of Trump's supporters informed a reporter that the protesters belonged to the MAGA party, not the Republican Party. Are we all in agreement that the supporters of Trump will now be called MAGAts (pronounced “maggots")? With apologies, of course, to actual maggots.
Edited to add my sympathies to Minus and all Texas BCO members who continue to be embarrassed by their elected officials. I was born in Texas and used to be proud of the strength and independence of the state. Those days are gone.

I'm not sure what Jelson meant by "being in a bubble of like-minded folks," nor whether her remark about viewpoints "different from mine" sought to signal that she disagrees with us liberals & progressives. Her previous posts were anti-Trump, so I think she should have been a bit clearer in her wording.
But if she means that we should entertain opposing viewpoints on this thread, then she doesn't understand why it exists. It's not an open political forum--the whole reason for creating this and the "Mirror" threads was to give each side a rhetorical and ideological "safe harbor" to let off steam where no insults nor vitriol would be flung against each other.
I used to belong to (technically, still do) the Acoustic Guitar (formerly Taylor Guitar) Forum. Bob Taylor is an Evangelical and libertarian, and his VP is a Scientologist. 'Nuff said there. Most of the members were (still are) regular churchgoers and praise & worship musicians & leaders. (Taylor is the brand of choice in the megachurch community). I joined specifically to find out about a problem with my guitar's pickup and get suggestions about how to fix it. But when too many people began posting about having problems with that pickup system, to the point of criticizing Taylor electronics outright, and began advocating competing brands, Taylor pulled out and took the forum name with him.
There was a subforum on the AGF called "The Loading Dock," where no topic was taboo so long as no profanities nor ad hominem insults to members were committed. But during the run-up to the 2008 election, the conservatives made racist and insulting posts; yet when we tried to counter them, we were admonished and some of us even temporarily suspended (especially the pagans & atheists). After the election, in the run-up to Obama's inauguration, the racist posts and insults got even more extreme, and the Loading Dock was discontinued--no discussion of politics, nor proselytizing, were allowed. (A competing unmoderated liberal site called "The Wharf In Exile" was founded--but when its founder, an ELCA pastor, died suddenly and prematurely, it sort of fell apart. His widow tried to keep it going, but to no avail).
So that's why we don't have a freewheeling open political forum here on BCO--arguments would (and, I hear, did) quickly devolve into heated mudslinging-fests.

Agreed.
And as to MAGAts:
`Jim Jordan Helped Incite The Insurrection Now He Is Begging For Trump Not To Be Impeached
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) spent months spreading Trump's lies about the election, but now he wants to bring the nation together by not impeaching Trump.
