So wonderful to not have a childish, petty, lunatic who not only made idiotic decisions but for the worst reasons one could. Just another reason to appreciate Pres. Biden who is such a breath of fresh air sanity.

Re: basements. Most homes in the tri-state area where I live have basements. It's where everyone's furnace is located. My parents had their house built just after WWII (only 900 sq. ft where they raised 7 kids!). The basement, made from cinder block, had a “fruit cellar" where mom kept canned goods. There was an additional opening in the fruit cellar for a room we called the “fall-out shelter". If Russia dropped the bomb on us, that's where we would ride it out. Ick. That dark, cave-like room, no bigger that 4' x 7', with a very low ceiling was filled with cobwebs and always seemed to have a couple inches of standing water on the floor. Before we sold the house in the 1990's after my parents died, we bricked up the fall-out shelter. For some reason, it was very satisfying to do so.
The house I live in is 100 years old (doesn't look like it as it's vinyl sided and we've done extensive interior remodeling over the years). The foundation under the front porch used to have a small window where coal was shoveled in to for the coal stove they kept in the basement.

I, too, was sorry to learn that the Biden's dog Champ had died. Last year just before the pandemic was declared, I had to say goodbye to my best friend, Peach, my orange tabby cat of 16 years. He was so regal. It is still too hard for me to look at photos of him. I still miss him terribly,

Divine: I'm so sorry to hear you lost Peach. It is so difficult when our companions ( always having much shorter lives than ours ) must leave us. They are so noble and accepting of their ends and we who have loved them want so more of them and for them. I've lost sooo many in my career of rescuer and have usually in the end been able to console myself that while they lived with me they had everything good I could give them.

As to politics, the idiocy goes on. I still feel Trump is causing way more trouble for the Reps. party than he is worth but that is the corner the Reps. have chosen to lock themselves in for now. Trump is now trying to ring Murkowski's chimes by a far right extremist ( his choice ) candidate and Alaska is going to a new voting system in 2022. Choice of four and if no one gets 50%, then the last choice falls off with those votes being given to the second place person. It is said, Trump could indeed turn Alaska blue. It's going to be interesting if he keeps dipping his hand in the water and swirling it around. All know he ruins things but they can't buck the extremists in their own cornered party.

Thanks for the clarification. I almost asked about " the name " but didn't want to come off as cheeky about choices. Having many cats here ( three really youngsters ) Pywacket is likely a much, much better fitting cat name. We have Dilly, Dally and Lucky. Dilly and Dally ( all three are males ) got their names because I told my Dh --- there is the cat Daisy ( the mom ) was dilly-dallying with when she got preggy. Lucky was named before I got him. He was out at the farm where I work. The owner of the farm ( should have been a vet ) where they raised Appaloosas for years, found Lucky more dead than alive and very, very sick, on the path from one of the barns. Lucky was also partially frostbitten. She took him in her house and nursed him back to health ( took a couple months ) and he is full of p**s and vinegar now, but has a strange hip roll and limp and is why I brought him home with me. Figured no one would want him and she would have to at some point put him back outside. He was totally feral when she picked him up but doesn't seem to 'recall' that. If put back out he would re-learn so I brought him home to be another playmate for Dilly and Dally.
