One benefit of Trump serving jail time is that it would dramatically reduce his flight risk if the Jan 6 charges actually bear fruit. Here's to hoping!

I don't even dare hope as he has weasled out of consequences so many times before.

I find this whole day very sad. Not because I feel bad for Donald Trump (who deserves whatever punishment he might get & more), but sad because the United States has come to this. Electing someone whom his supporters, as well as the Republican establishment, absolutely knew was a scumbag (mocking a handicapped reporter, a war hero & bragging about sexually molesting women....all out there to see & hear before they ever voted for him), and then cheering him on and/or making excuses for him throughout his presidency and to this day. I don't think there is any one person in the entire history of our country who has done as much harm... and he still continues to rip at the fabric of our institutions and stated values up to and including this very day. Appalling and heartbreaking.

Ruth, we will all be nervous over Trump getting his just deserts which would actually mean that we would get some of ours as we watch him being led into prison. But, we do worry. I worry more as I've said so many times that the Loon will no longer have enough mentality left about going to prison if it takes too long to get through his cases. It is fantastic that he has multiple cases in reality, which makes it more probable that one or more will surely land him in the hoosegow.
I also think we have at last introduced into being, that the rule of law does in fact, apply to all. Here is this orange thing that along with V. Putin, defrauded his way into the first favorable to him election in 2016 and then continued that on and is still being fraudulent. He truly was an illegitimate electee. I cannot bring myself to call him by the term president since he plainly was not. Never-the-less, a line has now been crossed and it won't be un-crossed. I don't think anyone is on the fence. The hard core will stick with him. What few reasonable Reps. still remain may say nothing but secretly know how bad he is for their party and hope he fails. Unfortunately, those who try to stick it out with the Loon have been so destructive to their own party that only major work could turn anything around. I think they need to start over myself -- minus much of the deadwood that enabled the Loon to what it now seems will be the bitter end. Sort of ironic that it took a person like the Loon to identify the deficient and lying part of the Reps. party, which was there long before the Loon ever thought to become a Reps.
ETA: I'm so with you Ruth. We have all lost so much by having in my mind this very illigitimate man sit at the head of our government.

Likely so after all the yrs. he could look at everyone of us and say screw you. NOT so much after today. Not near so much.

And didn't Marge have to leave because she made a cute crack about all the Dems being sure to bring their whistles.

Ruthbru: very nicely stated and I agree with the points you have raised. He has tarnished the reputation of this great country and made us the laughing stock of the world. I don't think we will ever be able to repair the damage he has done to our standing as a united nation and one that was regarded as the beacon of democracy for countries seeking to achieve what we had. In the matter of 4 years he was able to undo the achievements of over 200 plus years. Sad that the Constitution has been, like the Bible, used to misrepresent the intent of the original crafters and our Supreme Court has become the home of two men rightly accused of abuse of women, a woman who speaks with a forked tongue in her regard for the fate of women seeking abortions, and other dysfunctional judges who have politicized the court of the land.
Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide." John Adams. It is a shame these words are being actualized by white supremacists.

As Benjamin Franklin left Independence Hall after the Constitutional Convention, someone in the crowd outside asked what kind of government had been created. He replied, "A Republic....if you can keep it." Something we'd do well to keep in mind 300 plus years later.

Agree with the sentiment above ladies. I remember election night 2016 sitting watching the returns in shock that Trump was elected. How far the GOP has fallen. Wonder if this is what the Koch brothers and Fox News anticipated when they first threw money his way. They got the conservative Supreme Court and may have destroyed our democracy doing it, especially if trump is re-elected

MAJOR BREAKING: Judge Janet Claire Protasiewicz, has WON her Supreme Court seat in Wisconsin!!!!With her win, Trump just LOST his chances of throwing the election in Wisconsin. HER WIN WAS CRITICAL. Wisconsin was just ONE Supreme court seat away from saving abortion rights and and tearing up their bullshit gerrymandered election map.Tonight is a HUGE victory for Democracy!

The masters in the art of living make little distinction between their work and their play, their labor and their leisure, their mind and their body, their information and their recreation, their love and their religion. They hardly know which is which. They simply pursue their vision of excellence at whatever they do, leaving others to decide whether they are working or playing. To them they're always doing both. - James Michener

I wonder how many Reps. may be looking at Teflon Don today and beginning to wonder how easy to transfer to them now that the big TABOO has been broken and put to rest.

BOOM! Rachel Maddow REFUSED to air Trump's post-arrest remarks on MSNBC because they weren't "newsworthy. "As far as we can tell…he is repeating his same lies and allegations against his perceived enemies," she said. The most significant part of her decision was that it stood apart from other networks. While MSNBC completely ignored Trump's speech, Fox News predictably carried it in full, and CNN aired most of the address. Giving Donald Trump full coverage has led to disaster before. We are VERY lucky to have journalists like Rachel Maddow!
Interesting to find later that the Loon went straight to doing just what he was warned about in his arraignment. To watch out for his language and that it not be threatening to others. More or less that he not use it to incite others to aid and abet him. I felt that it would be his first go to and it was. He just digs his hole deeper and brings a lot more attentions to his errant behaviors.

Love the memes.I have been thinking about the fact that the Loon is once again the center of attention and for him -- why not !!! He is apparently raking in a pretty good amt. I am on the one hand horrified that all these people are sending a ? billionaire their hard-earned money and then on the other side thinking, they likely deserve to lose the money if they are foolish enough to keep giving it to the Loon. What is the make-break on how much you are willing to give because the Loon has been asking for years and before he was in government, he was stealing from you by not paying his fair share of taxes. Totally amazing how they just keep on doing this -- giving money to a man who has a 757 and a pilot o fly it for him.
And Ruth -- I'd love to help you with that gag.
