edited July 27 in Breast Reconstruction

Hi- I had breast cancer and bilateral mastectomies 13 years ago and immediate reconstruction using silicone implants. I’m having the implants removed and plan to go flat. The surgeon I saw said that he could only partially remove the capsule since I have no breast tissue. Everything I read says it’s best to have the full capsule removed. Has anyone had this done and would you be willing to tell me how your capsule was handled?

Hi bobean1980! How are you ? I wish I could help you, but I think I am in a similar situation that you were in when you wrote this post. I have a ruptured implant and am looking to have both of my implants removed and go flat. If you did end up going flat, what was the process like and the recovery? Any suggestions? I have the option to put implants back in, but my gut is telling nagging at me.

Hi Swimfree- I decided to get a second opinion which is next week. Have you been told whether or not the full capsule can be removed if you choose to go flat? I’d love to hear what you decide and how you’ve been. I’ll keep you posted as well.

Are you going to end up having to pay for the correction as well? Curious since I kind of have one that has kind of gone on one mine but putting off doing anything since kind of tired of surgery at this point and worried about expense. Keep us posted.
