High creatinine, high ketones?

I am not sure how common these side effects are, but I've been experiencing them so I thought I'd check in and see if there's anyone who has already experienced these and can maybe shed some light on what I might expect.

My meds include kisqali and letrozole. Not sure what might be causing the issues.

TMI time: I noticed frothy urine, that was my first indication something was up. A dip test for a possible UTI indicated high ketones (a UTI was ruled out). Diabetes was ruled out. An ultrasound didn't readily see any damage to kidneys or bladder.

So, I have been referred to a kidney specialist (nephrologist). Waiting on that appointment.

In the meantime, I noted that my creatinine levels were increased on recent bloodwork. A couple of nurses pointed this out to me as well and told me to stay hydrated.

Do these symptoms ring any bells for anyone else? When I raised the appearance of the urine to the oncologist he didn't think it was treatment related. Just curious.

Hi @doodler, I'm not on any stage IV meds but periodically have high creatinine and ketone levels. It can be caused by kidney problems but my GFR is in the low average range for my age when they check. I'm told to hydrate and eat more carbs since dehydration and a low carb diet can also cause these symptoms. My endocrinologist thinks my malfunctioning thyroid needs a high level of carbs to work properly and a deficit causes this. I gladly drink the extra water and a bit reluctantly consume pasta, bread and starchy fruits/veggies. Maybe a dietary change would help. I hope you get an answer soon.

Doodler, Did you get a kidney consult? I have a weak kidney so always looking for ways to lower creatinine. Also, I read the new GLP-1 drugs (Ozempic, etc) for diabetes/weight loss are also reported to be protective of kidneys and help to reverse kidney damage…

I'm back with an update — the kidney specialist said there was no reason to think that there was kidney disease, I'm in the clear. If anything changes, to see my GP. Otherwise, I'm very relieved.

Mystery not quite solved, but it appears to be within the realm of normal body stuff, by the sounds of it.
