Hello new here anyone good at reading pathology?
hi everyone I had a us guided needle biopsy on Friday. I had two areas but they only biopsies the larger one. Today the results say fibroepithelial lesion with increased stromal cellularity and myxoid change
they are suggesting surgery to remove both areas to make sure it is a fibroadenoma and not a phyllodes tumor. Is the fact that it shows the increased stromal cellularity more of a reason of concern?

Hi @lisa07878, That particular phrase on your pathology report refers to a lesion that could be either a fibroadenoma (benign) or a phyllodes tumor (ranges from benign to borderline to malignant.) Stromal cellularity tends to be higher in phyllodes tumors. Since a needle biopsy captures only a small part of a suspicious area surgery is often recommended so that a pathologist can look at the entire lesion. It's more likely to turn out benign but it would be wise to go ahead with the excision just in case it is not. I hope the excisional biopsy goes well and that you get a benign result. All the best.
