Upper back pain, tingling and numbness in left arm and both feet

Good morning,

I haven’t posted here in a while but, I do check in to read the posts from time to time to gain knowledge and peace. I’m very thankful for the ladies here, though I wish none of us were here.

So, if I could get some of you to offer advice, prayers, or experiences I would appreciate it.

So, in early October I started to have left shoulder pain, not constant just enough to notice. (I also have arthritis in that shoulder).

I went to see my GP when two weeks in the pain was now mostly in my left shoulder blade area and into my upper arm. He thought I had the beginning of a frozen shoulder. I went with that for about another two weeks, now early November and back to GP. My GP wasn’t available so I saw another doctor after giving me a exam she stated it was muscular and gave me a Tramadol shot and recommended PT. The shot helped for about a day.

Now in late November I went in to Urgent Care which did an xray which showed a slipped disc in my lower thoracic area. The pain had increased along with pain in upper arm that feels like sore muscles.

The pain also goes to forearm and over Thanksgiving I began to get tingling in both feet.

Needless to say I’m more than concerned. I have an appointment on Dec. 11 with my GP to request an MRI.  I’m not sure why the symptoms are changing so quickly.  The pain had definitely reduced but not gone.  I take muscle relaxers and Naproxen and sleeping is better. Two weeks ago I couldn’t sleep for pain in my arm and shoulder blade area.

Thank you.

After having tried urgent care, have you considered going back to them, or directly to the ER?

    Hi threetree,

Actually, I had not considered going back to Urgent Care as they have limited courses of action beyond X-rays and they were the ones to tell me about the slipped disc. The emergency room could be an option but rarely do they do in-depth imaging. I work so I would hate to go and wait 6 or more hours for them to tell me “let’s do an x-ray. I appreciate you taking time to respond. Thank you.

Humblepeace - I sure appreciate your issue with not wanting to spend hours in the ER! In my experience they do a lot of x-rays - especially if you are tingly. If it's any help, I have been told that with these back and tingling issues, you are probably OK unless you can't walk, or you've lost control of bowel and /or bladder. That is the time to go to the ER for sure, but unless that's your situation, I've been told you can just see the regular doctor and get more tests, etc. I'm surprised the urgent care didn't suggest anything further. They are limited in their x-ray capabilities, but then they usually tell you to go to the ER if it looks like you need more. I'm just so sorry you are in all that pain! Best of luck to you.

    ThreeTree,

Thanks for that information. I have not lost control of my bladder!! Thank God. I was diagnosed in 2017, IDC Right Breast. I admit my body is a constant prayer cause many things have changed. I hoping all of this is because of the slipped disc in thoracic area. I know of the L4 and L5 discovered about 5 years ago and they have cause pain as well but not like this. I also experienced foot numbness with them as well.

I had a fall in this year caused by my English Mastiff. That brave dog (NOT) threw me down trying to escape a noise she heard while we were out walking and I broke my right hand. Less than one week later I was the passenger in a head on collision in the company car. Airbags deployed. Maybe these incidents cased the slipped disc. But that was late May 2024.

    Thanks again for listening.
