Recent MRI has me concerned

This week I had an MRI and the results have me concerned. The impression stated
"irregular 1.2 cm mass in the left lower outer posterior depth demonstrating rapid wash in and persistent kinetics" - BiRads 4
I have been recommended for an MRI guided biopsy. My mother and my grandmother as well as two of my grandmother's sister's all had breast cancer so my risk is high. I've had two previous masses that were both benign.
Can anyone explain to me what those results actually mean? My doctor has been less than helpful

Hi @hrgirl, I'm sorry that you have the worry of dealing with another biopsy. The classification BIRADS 4 means there is a 5 - 95% chance that the mass seen is malignant, not very helpful. There are subclassifications of A, B or C which narrow down the probabilities a bit but your radiologist did not assign one. The language describing what the mass looks like is specific to its appearance on MRI, technical jargon that requires specialized training to interpret and understand.
Unfortunately imaging cannot tell whether a mass is benign or malignant which is why a biopsy needs to be done. Hopefully it will turn out benign like the previous two. Let us know how things work out. All the best.
