Hormone receptor status changed

My biopsy showed I was ER+ (90%), PR+ (30%) and HER2+ (3). I just had a lumpectomy and now my markers show I am ER low+ (5%), PR- (0%) and HER2+ (3). How is that possible and what does it mean if I'm ER low positive, PR -? Does that mean I won't have targeted hormone therapy? Is it better or worse than the triple positive I thought I was yesterday. Oh, and now I'm a grade 2/3, whereas before I was a very strong 3. I am so confused and have no idea what this might mean for treatment.

Hi @luluvee, It is not that unusual for a diagnosis to change after surgery. A biopsy only captures a small piece of the tumor whereas surgical pathology examines all of it. My biopsy found only DCIS but I ended up having stage 2 IDC with a small amount of adjacent DCIS. My proposed treatment changed and yours might, too. You will have to discuss that with your doctor. It threw me for a loop at first but things settled down when I had a revised treatment plan. I hope things work out well for you.
