Is anyone from NYC here

Was wondering if anyone knows any really amazing oncologists here, I'm not thrilled with the doc I have, was hoping for a specialist that does only patients in Manhattan with stage iv.

Any advice you can give would be of great help, as there are so many doctors when I start searching on google I have no idea who tto call for a second opinion on course of treatment.

I'm from NYC but my oncologist works with early stage patients in addition to stage IV and I don't have a personal recommendation, but in case it's helpful here are some things I've learned from others along the way.

When I was looking for doctors, one tip that a doctor friend of mine gave me - in addition to or if I couldn't find personal recommendations - was to look through the doctor's areas of research and publication.

Another idea is to ask another one of your doctors whom you do like - even if they're in a completely unrelated speciality - if they have an oncologist they would go to or send their sister to if they were diagnosed.

One way to start narrowing down could be the NCI designated centers in Manhattan (that take your insurance): Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Columbia University, Mount Sinai, and NYU Langone ( https://www.cancer.gov/research/infrastructure/cancer-centers/find#Nebraska (scroll down a few for NY).

I second salamandra’s suggestion. I also would not confine myself to an mo who only sees stage IV patients for two reasons. One, is that I have never heard mention of an mo who does that. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist, but in my 13 years here I don’t recall anyone mentioning such a narrowly focused practice. You do commonly find MO’s who focus on a particular area of cancer and there are bc specialist mo’s. Second reason is you’d probably be eliminating many excellent mo’s by looking at a limited number of choices. If you also require that they only practice in Manhattan, you’ve even further narrowed down what is already a tiny number of practitioners. If you want to find a focus, you might consider an mo who specializes in breast cancer rather than a specific stage. Take care
