Awaiting two biopsies Birads 4

Hi, I’ve been a member a long time and survived DCIS breast cancer 16 years ago. At that time the cancer was found on my mammogram as tiny microcalcifications in my right breast.
I went for my annual mammogram this week and two areas were discovered in my left breast. I’m going to copy the report and hopefully someone on here can help me understand it better. I’m concerned about a recurrence of cancer now in this opposite breast. Thank you in advance for any insights. The radiologist commented she didn’t like the way the microcalcifications were lined up.
Impression:
Ultrasound-guided core biopsy with x-ray specimens of the cystic structure with microcalcifications in the left breast in theretroareolar region and in the left breast at 8:30, 5 cm from the nipple.
Benign findings as described above of the right breast.
Assessment: BI-RADS: BI-RADS Category 4, Suspicious Abnormality. Biopsy should be considered.
FOLLOW-UP RECOMMENDATION: US guided biopsy Ultrasound-guided core biopsy and clip placement of the cysticstructures with microcalcifications in the left breast in the retroareolar region and in the left breast at 8:30, 5 cm from the nipple. Specimen x-ray is advised.
Left breast ultrasound: Benign left axillary lymph nodes are seen. Multiple subcentimeter cysts and areas of duct ectasia are throughout the left breast. A 1.4 x 0.6 × 2.1 cm probable cluster of microcysts at 2:00, 4 cm from the nipple is stable. In the left breast in the retroareolar region is an area of duct ectasia versus clustered microcysts with bright echogenic foci. A metallic marker was placed on the skin overlying the ultrasound finding and repeat mammographic images were obtained and demonstrated correlation to a group of nonlayering microcalcifications. Similar cystic mass with bright echogenic foci is at 8:30, 5 cm from the nipple measuring 0.6 x 0.3cm. Two metallic markers were placed on the skin overlying this ultrasound finding and repeat mammographic images were obtained and demonstrated correlation to an additional group of non layering microcalcifications.

Hi @pleasant7, I'm sorry that your ultrasound triggered another biopsy 16 years later. I imagine that since the previous DCIS showed up as microcalcifications the same description is causing additional worry. BIRADS4 with no additional letter does not reveal much since the rate of malignancy can be anywhere from 5% to 95%. Unfortunately a biopsy is the only way to tell what is there so you have to go through the process of waiting for the procedure and result again. It doesn't get easier but at least you are familiar with it. Let us know how it turns out. Here's hoping for benign!

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, with the biopsies not scheduled until the end of the month I will be waiting til mud April for my results. It’s the waiting that never gets easier. I was just hoping maybe someone in the group might have had similar findings and share their experience.

It's tough to tell since I had a friend with linear microcalcifications whose biopsy a few months before mine was benign but mine (also with linear microcalcifications) was not. Hang in there and (((hugs))) for you.

Thanks again and hugs to you too! 💕

@pleasant7 Sorry your in this situation as we all know the waiting is torture. But as Maggie said there is nothing like confirmation by tissue pathology. That is truly the only way we know exactly what we're dealing with. I have also seen calcifications going either way. Sending you strength and positive vibes that all goes your way for benign.🤞♥️
