I used to be member here when my mom had breast cancer.
she is better but unfortunately my sister diagnosed with cancer and is going under treatment.

I have bad pain and burning in my left breast .

My last years memogramme was clear but on 2022 they had to clip in my left breast after biopsy.

The results came negative.

I have to go for my annual memogramme .

Is there any other test I have to ask?
they always do memogramme 3 D because of my breast tissue.

please help me out .
thanks

@zohra I’s sorry to hear about your sister, especially after having to go through it with your mom previously. I would recommend a breast MRI. I have extremely dense breasts (Category D) and I was all clear until I wasn’t. I was getting annual mammograms and ultrasounds since before the age of 40 as my mom had breast cancer in her early 60s. Not one medical professional told me that I should be getting a breast MRI. However, if you read the literature online, it’s highly recommended for those with dense breast tissue. If I could go back in time, I would absolutely insist on one. Maybe if I had, I wouldn’t be where I am now. All the best to you and your family.

    Dear Harrow,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Do I have to go to oncologist to get the order?

I don’t think it’s something that my insurance will accept easily. But I can try.

I hope sorry you are going through that.

If you don’t may I asking you are you in treatment ?

    Thanks again

    Zohra,

I’m very sorry you find yourself here . Please speak to whoever is ordering your mammogram about an MRI and let them know why you think this will be helpful. Most insurance will cover the MRI if it is because of dense breast tissue.

    Zohra jahn,

You can most certainly call primary care physician and if they are not the right person to ask they can point you in the right direction.

Hi @zohra, we're so sorry for the worries that bring you here.

Please read this section from our main site on Screeing for Women With Dense Breasts for info on the types of tests you can ask for and insurance coverage for this screening.

    We hope this helps!

@zohra the mods and exbrnxgrl have given great advice on additional information on how to request more tests.

I was diagnosed Stage 4 de novo, which means I was Stage 4 from the beginning. I am HR-, HER2+. I did chemo with Herceptin and Perjeta, single mastectomy, no radiation. I am on maintenance therapy with just Herceptin and Perjeta indefinitely. It’s only been about 18 months since diagnosis for me.

Both your mother and your sister were diagnosed with cancer, that means you’re in high risk category (2 immediate relatives with breast cancer) Your primary doctor should recognize it and order MRI and mammogram every year, 6 months apart. You should also insist on the gene testing. If you have dense breasts, don’t just rely on mammogram. Do self breast exam. That how I found out about the cyst on my breast. Even when the cyst was palpable, the mammogram still didn’t see it. MRI is not a foolproof but it most likely detects cancer early. Best.

    Zohra jahn,

Whether one has pain or not is very individualized. Some do, some don’t. More importantly, someone else’s experience says little about your own. Worry and stress over the unknown is exhausting so please contact your doctor ASAP to discuss further imaging as that addresses you and your unique situation. Take care

You have 2 immediate family members diagnosed with breast cancer. Even if you don’t carry pathogenic mutation you are still in high risk category. The protocol is MRI and mammogram 6 months apart. Talk to your primary doctor and insist on MRI first, not mammogram first. I’m the lucky one. My cancer was found early, stage 1, no lymph node involved.
