Are there many over 70 here to talk to?

I was dx and treated with lumpectomy and rads in 2002, had another surgery to remove scar tissue in 2011. Opposite breast (dcis) in 2023, had lumpectomy, then another surgery a few weeks later to get better margins, followed by rads to this breast. I have yearly MRI's since 2011'. This past Dec. went for the yearly and told suspicious spot behind lumpectomy site. I swear I have PTSD from since the first stereotactic biopsy, it was like being shot (in my mind), the sound and the pain, every time. Now doctor wants to do an MRI guided biopsy. I do not think that I can hold still for this and having an emotional and anxiety ridden time at just the thought. I am 73, wondering if anyone near my age has any advise or history of their own experience for me?

Hi @susan_cny - we're so very sorry for the worries that plague you! Is it possible you could ask your doctor for an ativan or something to help ease your anxiety while you have your procedure done?

I agree with the mods about taking benzos prior to the procedure. I assume you'll need someone to drive you home.
Benzos help me with my anxiety tremendously .

Hi @susan_cny
I agree that it sounds like you should take something to make you calmer for the procedure, though you will then need a driver.
I'm not quite your age, but approaching it. 68 😊 It's quite interesting that your 2 dx are close to the same years as mine: 2003 and 2022, though for me both ended with a mx. Also, I had the stereo biopsy with my first and an mri biospy with the 2nd. I would say the mri was better, but they do still have the 'gun-thing' and warn you about the sound, so take some meds.
Very sorry that some of us seem to keep having this nasty bc creep up.
Hoping for a calm and negative biopsy for you!
Take care.
