BIRAD5

just curious what the odds will be that this is benign. I had my first screening on 3/26 and came back they wanted more testing done. The women that did my mammogram said that they would do that and not to be worried. They called every day, texted and sent me a certified letter. Between work and the radiology office hours I just couldn’t get back. I went to my regular radiology place in 5/14 and had the diagnostic MRI and sonogram there. I was waiting for the second sono, when the sono tech came and got me to tell me the radiologist wanted to speak with me on the phone. She basically told me that she sees a suspicious mass and I need to get the core biopsy within the week. Then I got a call from 4 other doctors, within the same day, to explain the results, another radiologist, my gynecologist and my PCP. They were all sent the results after they were uploaded. I wasn’t and still am not freaking out about it. I am very level headed and discussed with my husband the probabilities. Still wondering what the odds are that the first mammo ever at the age of 40 if it being malignant. Could it be something else? Thoughts? Core biopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
FINDINGS:
Left breast: Seen well only on the true lateral view is an angulated non circumscribed mass in the retroareolar left breast measuring 0.7 x 0.7 cm seen well only on the MLO view, lying approximately 2 cm deep to the nipple on that view. This corresponds to a suspicious sonographic mass, for which biopsy is recommended.
Right breast: There are no suspicious clustered microcalcifications. Note is made of several loosely grouped small benign-appearing calcifications in the posterior upper inner right breast, which are probably benign.
IMPRESSION: Suspicious 0.7 x 0.7 cm mass seen only on the MLO view lies in the left breast and measures 0.7 cm in maximal dimension on mammography. Ultrasound-guided core biopsy is needed.
Breast ultrasound has been performed and will be reported separately.
RECOMMENDATION:
Ultrasound-guided core biopsy of suspicious left breast mass, as discussed above. Results and recommendations were discussed with the patient and she will schedule the biopsy.
Follow up of probably benign right breast calcifications can be performed in 6 months with repeat right CC and delayed true lateral views of the right breast.
Results and recommendations were given to the patient. She will schedule theleft breast core biopsy.
BI-RADS:
BI-RADS 5 - Highly Suggestive of Malignancy.
Sono:
FINDINGS:
RIGHT BREAST:There are no cysts or solid nodules in the right breast.
LEFT BREAST:At the 2 o'clock position of the left breast 2 cm from the nipple, there is a hypoechoic 0.7 x 0.5 x 0.6 cm lobulated mass, with mildly irregular and angulated borders. It measures 0.7 x 0.5 x 0.6 cm. This is suspicious and ultrasound-guided core biopsy is needed. Of note, it is seen only on the true lateral view of the left breast on mammography. The remainder of the visualized breast is unremarkable.
IMPRESSION:
0.7 cm suspicious mass lies at the 2 o'clock position of the left breast seen on ultrasound, and on true lateral mammographic view only. It is suspicious for malignancy, and ultrasound-guided core biopsy is needed.
Please see mammogram report, dictated separately.
RECOMMENDATION: Ultrasound-guided core biopsy of suspicious 2 o'clock left breast is needed.
Results and recommendations were discussed with the patient and she will schedule ultrasound-guided core biopsy. At the time of the biopsy, the left axilla can also be interrogated to exclude axillary lymphadenopathy.
BI-RADS:
BI-RADS 5 - Highly Suggestive of Malignancy.

@jprimar18, we're sorry that you have to be here and worried, but wanted to send you a warm welcome to the BCO community.
As you know, BI-RADS 5 does mean the imaging is highly suspicious, but only a biopsy can give you a definitive answer. Many people here have gone through similar situations, and we hope others will chime in with their experiences. In the meantime, while you wait for your biopsy and results, try to stay distracted with things you enjoy, spend time with family and friends, etc. Even small routines or favorite activities can offer a bit of relief.
Please keep us posted. We’re here for you!
