Any diabetics demand steroid alternative due to glucose impact?

Options

I had my first chemotherapy on Thursday. That evening my glucose shot over 200. Today it's yo-yoing.
When I asked about steroids raising glucose, all the oncologist basically said was just that I would have to manage my glucose closely. To me, that means no more steroids. I'd rather have the nausea, thanks.
Definitely going for a second opinion on this aspect of treatment.

I’m not diabetic but have had to use insulin when taking steroids. The steroids lower inflammation and help prevent allergies as well as nausea so skipping them might have other side effects. You should consult with whomever manages your diabetes (PCP or endocrinologist ) about this. They might be able to work with your oncologist to find a lower dose or other option to keep things from going haywire. Good luck with your treatment.

I am not diabetic either but Type 2 runs in my family and I’m not young anymore, so I was very hesitant about the steroid pre-med when I was on chemo. I asked to not have that or Benadryl before treatment.

My doc did eliminate the Benadryl but she said all she could do was put the steroids down to the lowest possible dose and I survived 6 months of taxol with no adverse reaction. So it is possible to get a dose reduction, I hope it helps you. We are always between a rock and a hard place with treating this disease.
