MIL just diagnosed with TNBC

Options

Hello again, five years ago (at 52), I joined breastcancer.org for support during my DCIS diagnosis and subsequent bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction journey. Now I am back looking for insight on TNBC treatment to provide support to my husband and MIL.

Some context, my MIL is 82 years old in moderate health; main health concern until now is a 20 year history of diabetes. She lives on the west coast, and my husband and I live on the east coast. He is an only child, and she has no other family in her area. She has been living independently for 10 years; her limited support network is similar-aged friends and church.

What I know about her diagnosis is that the tumor is 1.2 cm and currently do not think it has lymph involvement. She is deciding b/w mastectomy or lumpectomy and is awaiting MO appointment.

I'm looking for insight from others who have undergone treatment for a similar diagnosis. I know there are still many unknowns but how would others feel about forging this path with support so far away? We plan to go help post-op but can not be there for her lengthy chemotherapy (if she chooses to go this route). We are considering asking her to come live with us for this part of her treatment and wonder if the course of this disease will end her independence. I know none of us has a crystal ball but feel really unprepared as we enter this journey.

Any insight others can provide is welcome. TIA
