Asymmetry and distortion BIRADS 4

I am a 42 year old woman. I did my first ever screening beginning of this year. I went for a biopsy last week for asymmetry and distortion in 2 regions on same breast. Each region less than 1 cm. I will know the results next week, but anxious.
Google says ppv for distortion malignancy is 75%. I had assumed the chances are low because of small size. Seems I’m wrong.
My mammogram showed “distortion” but ultrasound report doesn’t mention distortion, it just says two asymmetries. Is it possible the ultrasound cleared the distortion diagnosis?
I am an anxious person in general, makes it tough to think what’s going to happen next.
I am glad I found this community ❤️

Hi @stuckbyanxiety, I’m sorry you are in the stressful situation of waiting for a biopsy result. Mammograms and ultrasounds are two different modes of imaging which show different aspects of breast abnormalities. Neither can tell whether an abnormality is malignant which is why a biopsy must be done. Waiting for the pathology results seems to take forever but is the only way of getting an answer.
Google is less able than imaging to diagnose a medical problem. Uncertainty is hard to live with but you should find out next week. Hopefully the result will be benign but if not this is a good place for information and support. All the best.

thank you @maggie15 for your response.
Just that my mind doesn’t stop thinking, I lost my dog this week and it’s adding up too 😢1 -
I’m sorry for the stress of waiting, it’s the worst part once you know either way you will move forward. I am sorry about your dog, that’s tough on top. Deep breathing helps me recenter. Only the best wishes.

Sharing my biopsy results for anyone interested. I got a call from the nurse with next steps. I’ve been asked to come back for a mammogram and ultrasound in 6 months. This is not a protocol apparently, but the radiologist suggested it since the last one was my very first mammogram. She wants to confirm the baseline.
Pathologic Diagnosis
A. Right breast, 1:00, 5 cm from nipple, ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy:
• Cores of benign breast tissue with focal sclerosing adenosis and patchy stromal fibrosis.
• Negative for atypia or malignancy.
B. Right breast 1:00, 3 cm from nipple, ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy:
• Cores of benign breast tissue with sclerosing adenosis with scant associated microcalcifications.
• Patchy stromal fibrosis and pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia-like change.
• Negative for atypia or malignancy.

Hi @stuckbyanxiety, Sclerosing adenosis is benign but according to some studies it does increase your risk of developing breast cancer slightly. It's something to keep in mind if issues crop up later. It's good that you are having a mammo/US in six months to confirm the baseline. All the best.
