Oncotype test results.
Hi, I’m 5 weeks post diep flap surgery for lobular BC and waiting for oncotype test result, which I have just found out will be over the phone. Has anyone had Oncotype result over the phone which resulted in chemo? I’m stressing out about difference between in person and phone consultations and if there is any difference in why one would be used over the other? Could it be phone appointment because score is low and therefore no need for in-person appointment because chemo is not needed?? This will be my first oncology appointment so could over the phone mean it’s a good thing?

Hi @bayrun,
It’s completely understandable to feel anxious while waiting for your Oncotype result, especially ahead of your first oncology appointment.
Since you’re only 5 weeks post-DIEP flap surgery, your team may simply be aiming to minimize travel while you recover. A phone or video appointment is quite common when there’s no immediate need for a physical exam, particularly if you’re still healing or if you and your oncologist are in different locations. This can be the quickest way to share your results and decide whether a follow-up in person is needed.
However, it will be good to have your questions written down, to be prepared. Hi @bayrun, Medical phone appointments are often scheduled to get you time with a busy provider since they are much quicker to complete (no vitals or med list checks, can be very focused.) The type of news you receive can be anything, just like in a regular appointment. Mine have covered the extremes from telling me I had breast cancer to letting me know a CT showed a life threatening lung disease was not spreading to my good lung. As the mods suggested, knowing about the significance of Oncotype scores for your age group in advance will allow you to ask pertinent questions. In addition to determining whether chemo is recommended the test gives a nine year recurrence risk when taking estrogen blockers, something you should ask about. I hope you get good news.
