GLP-1 meds after TNBC – safe?
Hi everyone,
I finished chemo for triple-negative breast cancer in May 2025. I’m struggling with extra weight (about 25 kg / 55 lbs) and considering GLP-1 medications (like Ozempic or Saxenda) for weight loss.
I’ve read mixed things about cancer risk and would love to hear if any TNBC survivors here have been prescribed a GLP-1, or if your oncologist shared thoughts on safety.
Any experiences or resources would mean a lot 💙

I was Luminal A (not TN and got AI therapy, not chemo) and have been on tirzepatide (Zepbound, briefly Mounjaro because it was slightly cheaper, now Zepbound in vials) for 20 months (hit goal weight—53 lbs down—a year ago on the initial dose of 2.5mg and went up to 5mg in February 2025 when I began experiencing nighttime sweet cravings. Everything I've read—confirmed by my endocrinologist—says that the cancer risk is for those with a personal history of either thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2.
I recently read a report about a mouse study, in which obese mice implanted with breast cancer (didn't specify which type) were then given tirzepatide. They lost 27% of their body weight,,,but their tumors shrunk by the same percentage.
Of course, we are not mice, and that was a one-off study without double-blinding or placebo controls. But it is food for thought.
