Diep flap vs Hybrid

I’m trying to make my decision for my next surgery after having my BMX a couple of months ago. I need some advice! I’m trying to decide between Diep flap vs hybrid.

I’ve spoken to 2 women that had the Diep done many years ago and are very unhappy with their results. Hoping to get some more feedback about Diep and the hybrid because I don’t know anyone who has had the hybrid done. Thanks :)

I don't know what hybrid recon is. I had DIEP flap recon but it was done concurrent with the BMX. Even though I had wound healing issues (former smoker, 62 at the time of surgery) I am very happy I went for DIEP - as long as you are a good candidate for it in terms of having sufficient belly fat to have the size you want and use a surgeon very experienced in DIEP, the results are as close to a natural breast as possible - the look, feel, weight. Also, I tend to have some allergic sensitivities (latex sensitive, have to avoid scented detergent) and I doubted my body would accept implants plus I read about the pain many experience with the expanders. Yes, the recovery time for DIEP is longer but for me it was well worth it. I also had 2 subsequent fat grafting procedures, the discomfort from those was minimal for me.

I have had SMX with immediate diep flap. Hybrid is when you add a small implant to a flap to increase volume. Sometimes the implant is added in a subsequent surgery because the most important thing is to make sure the flap is healthy and viable. You won't know if you need an implant until a few months after diep since it takes a while for everything to settle. I would have the diep first and then decide if you want the implant. By now, you may already have had the surgery. Just seeing your post now as I'm not on this site very often anymore. Wishing you good luck with your decision and surgery.
