Newly diagnosed DCIS

I just received my DCIS diagnosis on 2/20. My physician has ordered me an MRI due to punctuate calcifications seen between the two DCIS positive sites in my breast (which are 7 cm apart). Has anyone else had this?

    Hi @ripple430 -

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry that you have had to join us, but glad you have found us.

I'm assuming your DCIS was dxd from a mammogram. Is that correct? If so, it is very common to have an MRI after that. The reason they treat DCIS is because it often becomes invasive if not treated. The MRI will possibly provide them with more information in case it shows some IDC. Don't fret over it. It doesn't ALWAYS show up, but it helps with surgical decisions if it does. Also, if it does show up and it didn't on the mammogram, it is likely very small so the outlook is likely similar to your current outlook which is very positive.

    Best of luck to you.

    Take care.

  • Yes. I’m a nurse so I do know all of the medical things regarding my situation. But I find myself physically having so much anxiety and I haven’t slept since the diagnosis Friday. I had two areas spotted on ultrasound after the mammogram. They were both biopsied on Wednesday. One stereotactically and one US guided. Both diagnosed with DCIS, Moderate to high grade. And the physician saw some punctate calcifications between the two areas. They are about 6cm apart. So that was the reasoning for the MRI. Thank you for responding so quickly. It’s been a weird couple of days having my body react completely independently of my brain and my knowledge. I’m glad I found somewhere where people can relate.
