Chemotherapy hasn't started yet after the surgery..Her2+++

Hello everyone
My sister's diagnosis and brief summary of her recovery are available in my signature. It's been 39 days since her surgery on January 30, 2026, and she's still recovering. Her plastic surgeon said, "We discussed it in the tumor board and decided to perform the first surgery and remove all remaining tissue. She's recovering now, and we won't rush her into chemotherapy. We can start after she's fully recovered. Otherwise, hospitalization and infections could occur. We have to wait, and we will wait." He said there's nothing to worry about and we'll proceed cautiously.

However, because of her Er-Pr-Her2+++ status, I'm a little apprehensive. I wonder if this long wait is normal. Are there any of you who have received adjuvant treatment (first surgery, then chemotherapy) and waited this long? Your opinions on this matter are very valuable and important.

Wishing you healthy days...

Hi @myoldersister, we're sorry for the worries about your sister that have led you to our community. We understand your concern, and wanted to reassure you that it is within the normal standard-of-care protocol to begin adjuvant chemotherapy within 5 - 8 weeks after surgery. The start of chemotherapy may be delayed due to healing complications or other health concerns, so it is important to keep in touch with your sister's medical care team with any questions regarding her treatment plan.

  • Thanks, mods.

Maybe it's a normal process, I don't know. But one thing I do know is that I'll be anxious until chemotherapy starts and until the scans monitor what's happening during this waiting period.
