Surprises continue
I was diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer, Stage 2, on March 6,2026. A mammogram in late July was read as normal. I had an MRI, which I pleaded for as my mother, and sister both had breast cancer. Done on March 5,2026. The after noon of the MRI, I got a call, to come in the next day for an ultrasound and possible biopsy. The biopsy found a 3.5 cm a large Lobular Cancer. The surgeon felt a mastectomy would be best for me. Hoping for a lumpectomy, I went to Dana-Farber. It took about a month to be scheduled with a medical oncologist, and the surgeon. They suggested a getting a MRI guided biopsy to check some other spots which lead to their diagnosis of 7+cm finding of cancer. Still hoping for the spots to be negative, of course it was a welcomed step. Love that hospital! Got a call today from the surgeon's nurse, saying that unfortunately one of the biopsied spots was Invasive Lobular Cancer, and the second was Intra Ductal Cancer. Surprised with both being found. Awaiting a call for a surgical date for the mastectomy. I feel grateful for MRI I pleaded for, with out it I'd be going along just planning on a routine mammogram in July this summer.

@quakerpoint Welcome to our community!
Well, done, you really advocated for yourself. We're so glad you pushed for the MRI, even though we know this isn’t the outcome you wanted.That shift from hoping for one thing to getting more findings is a lot to absorb. It makes sense to feel thrown by it, even as you’re feeling grateful things were caught. Many of us have been there.
That waiting period for surgery can feel especially hard.
We’re here with you 💛

Hi @quakerpoint -
Welcome to the club no one wants to be a part of. We are sorry that you have had to join us, but glad that you have found us.
Good for you advocating for yourself! I just don't understand why we have to push for Breast MRIs especially when you have a family history. I also pushed for MRIs which I had for years between my 2 dxs. They claim to not want to do them due to false positives, but I never had a false positive and anyway, it should be my decision!
My 2nd dx stemmed from a 'routine' MRI that occurred 2 months after a clean mammogram, so I also definitely see that they have a lot of value.
ILC especially is known for being very 'sneaky' which is likely why the mammograms don't pick it up well.
I hope that you STOP having surprises and the process goes more smoothly for you. Once things get scheduled and the plan for you to fight this beast fall into place, it should get better.
Feel free to post your questions and vents. We are here for you.
Take Care.
