Bariactric surgery - post bilateral mastectomy

Im looking for opinions.

Recently I have been reading studies about hormone production in women who have/had hormone receptive cancers. In my case I was Er/pr+ her2-.

My BMI is 38. My insurance considers the reoccorance of cancer as a comorbidity and will likely cover the bariactric surgery. I would LOVE to connect with anyone who may have already been down this road. Pros or cons.

---- excepts from some sites ive read so you vuys can see im not jusy making this up lol

"Endocrine Therapy Interference: If you are taking aromatase inhibitors (like Anastrozole or Letrozole) or Tamoxifen, note that excess adipose tissue can impair the efficacy of these lifesaving medications.Cite Current Medical Literature: Request that your surgical team attach recent clinical studies—such as those tracked by JAMA Surgery or the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery—demonstrating that bariatric surgery significantly lowers breast cancer recurrence and mortality in survivors with obesity. Hi @chialeo1919 !

Thank you for bringing this question here. It's a real and important one, and we can tell you've done your homework.

We can't weigh in on the research or the surgery itself, but please bring this exact question to your oncology team before you move forward. Ask specifically how it could affect your hormone levels and your current endocrine therapy. Your oncologist and surgical team should be talking to each other on this one.

We hope other members with experience here will chime in. Wishing you clarity as you make this decision.

    Hi again @chialeo1919!

We're just checking back in to see if you've had a chance to talk with your medical team - we're curious what their take was and if you're able to move forward with the surgery?

    Please keep us posted!
