lago - believe it or not - those 6 rounds of chemo will go by before you know it - take it from someone with 1 chemo txment left. It seems like just yesterday I was starting my first round of chemo!
Have a great day to all!

Yes I was actually excited. 6 rounds 4.5 months. That's not so bad at all. Now if I get out of radiation that would be awesome. Still waiting for the scheduling nurse to call me back. It's been my experience that I will have to leave another 1-2 messages before I get a call back.

Morning! Getting a litle cloudy here but that's ok! My grass is crispy....
Iago...just want to say that I also did carbo, taxotere and Herceptin and had virtually no problem with it. Started 1/26/2007 and last chemo was 5/9/2207....finished up the H in mid January...port out one week later! Actually called the surgeon while getting my last H to schedule the removal with my onc's blessing (and his laughter - told me to "go for it"). Just wanted to say tho..I thought I would be going every 3 weeks while doing chemo...but that turned out to be just the chemo portion. During those rounds I had to go every week for the Herceptin and then when I was done with the carbo/taxotere I got moved to every 3 weeks for the Herceptin. That's usually the way they do it...but it could have changed in the last 3.5 years too. If you have to go every week.....they run the Herceptin in 30min so you won't be there long anyway. Just take ALL your meds religiously, even if you think you don't need them.
Off to grab the laundry out of the dryer....waving hello to everyone else!
PS: had my D drawn to see where I am at now...won't get them back until next week and I will let you know!

Hey everyone.. back from getting my Herceptin. Like Wendy, I get mine every 3 weeks.. though mine is for life.. hopefully long long time... This time however, my liver enzyme number is up..
I'm freaking.. BUT, the other 4 liver indicators are down.. and I've added 14 supplements.. so I'm thinking it may be those.. Off to get Michael from school and to the Ortho.. and Gab is Crawling..
and Teething..
so busy.. started packing for our vacation in a week.. one suitcase full and feel like I haven't even started.. who thought of taking a baby on a trip??!!!!Have a great day everyone..

Wow, makmak, I cannot believe Gab is crawling already and getting teeth. Lost track of the nanny situation. What is up on that. Did you ever consider the au paire thingy or would that just not fit into your lifestyle?
Worked half day and then went to Eileen Fisher OUtlet and spent twice what I made
! Have any of you gone to the outlet center for that in Arlington Heights? I think it would not be everyone's taste and even though an outlet, still expensive in my book. I did get a dress that will work one day/week every week!Jackie and kater, your emails were nice. Thank you!
Lago, I think it is very cool that you are getting some work from your old boss. Some people do not need it, but I personally found that keeping active with colleagues improved my self-esteem.
Donna, per our facebook conversation on women and slavery, I have extra copies of Half the Sky(it was an Oprah book) and I would love to send you a copy. Perhaps you could share it with women in your church. It documents and comments on slavery - persecution of women throughout the world, but mostly on Muslim women in the Middle East. I have to say that this book has influenced my thinking, perhaps more than any other book in the last five years. I wish I could attend, but I live far from Crete and that would be difficult. Please keep me informed on other plans for dialog.
Have a great night!

Susan, I am not sure if I ever told you guys.. we found an AMAZING woman.. by accident.. I decided in desperation to call Michael's nanny (she worked for us over 10 years ago).. though she wasn't available, she had a friend who had a friend... she is only able to be here until April 1, but that is when Gab's daycare is deferred until.. if all things go well.. so things are back to normal.. and I am happy to feel that I'm not crazy and didn't expect too much.. but that it was just a bad fit.. She genuinely likes her job and the babby.. and that's all I can ask for.. Oh and we get along too.. since I'm home, that's important too. so I now once again have a walking buddy...

Carolyn- great to meet you last night!
Laura- missed ya!
Well, I was scheduled to start chemo Monday but just found out DH has shingles! Will I get 'em... can he still come with me...? I think we have a delay of game (again, damn burn)!

How funny Lago. Next time I see that quote again ( I read them so often that it is not unusual for me to see the same one two or three places ) I will be thinking of Decatur too I bet. Speaking of detours --- pardon me if I have told this before anyone. When Dh and I moved back here to my hometown we often went exploring. Growing up here as a kid, we did not have a car ( we walked everywhere -- including my Dad who would put his wallpaper tool chest sometimes on his shoulder when tired of carrying it in his hand, walk down the rail-road tracks and into Centralia here) to work. We lived 4 miles outside of town -- another way smaller town named Glenridge. My folks got a car when I was in 7th. grade. It was used mainly for my Dad going to work, or for going to town ( Centralia ) for weekly groceries. Dh would ask me about many of the small towns around here....and I knew nothing. So, once the house was put together --- we would often decide on a direction and take off for a "day of discovery". It was so very interesting to discover things about where I lived and grew up --- to see the sights I never saw as a kid ------ and I was often smiling in those days as we detoured in all four directions. I highly recommend day trips like this.
Adey, the shingles are only contagious when the blisters are open and draining. Also, isn't it true that if you have had chicken pox in your life you may have an immunity to them. My dh had them, and I did not ---- and I only broke out with one chicken pox as a kid in the middle of a long 7 month bout of rheumatic fever. I hope I never get them....but I have been around a few other people since then and did not get them either so I'm hoping the 'immunity info' is right. It may depend on where the outbreak is for your dh as to whether he would or should go. Perhaps someone else could go with you the first time. Not sure your Dh would even feel much like it. Here's hoping thinks turn out ok.
Hugs, Jackie

Adey, Shingles is the chicken pox virus that lays dormant in all who have had the chicken pox. If you had the chicken pox then you cannot get the shingles from your DH. However, anyone, no matter what age, who has never had the pox CAN get the chicken pox from being exposed to your DH. Once the lesions are dried up all are safe. Talk to your Onc or nurse about him going with you on Monday. Shingles can be a very serious problem for people with a compromised immune system. And it is a mystery why the virus lays dormant for many years and then suddenly appears......Stress seems to be a reasonable answer, tho. Good Luck.

Yes, I know about shingles. My good friend was caring for his elderly mother who had shingles and HE GOT THE CHICKEN POX at 68! I also know that I keep telling myself to get the shingles vaccine and I keep putting it off.
Have a great weekend!

Hello, Hello~~ It's been little over one week from my surgery and I am doing much better, thanks~ and Thanks for all the B-day wishes too.. YOU ladies are the best~!!! I had little cup cake with the candle on it for bday morning and my kids wanted that too so, we sang bday song 3times and kids blew their candles too.. Then we went out to dinner and walked around downtown Naperville and got yogurt and tea from Red Mango, it was good...
Pinkgirl- welcome and glad you found us... I finished my PT for LE 2 weeks ago and feel much better with the swelling and pain.. You should get it check, it will make you feel a lot better..
Makmak- good to hear that you found great nanny~!!!
Sorry, I missed the get together on 15th... I am sure you ladies had great time..

Elf ---- it's great to see your smiling face and know you are getting better. I know you are glad the surgery is now behind you.
Do you have pt exercises to do when you are done healing from the surgery? Glad as well that you had a nice birthday in the middle of all this. Hmmmm, birthdays, where would we be without them I ask you !!!! You just got to be thrilled --- even if they bring gray hair and stiff joints and a couple of aches and pains.
I'm having a slow day at work which I don't mind as it allows me to check what is going on here. Looking forward to a relaxed night. Going in the morning to volunteer at the House of Hope. Long story ( would bore some too ) but the old board of directors had to be ousted --- and Tues. night new directors put in place. I now feel I can go and help without the stress and tension that existed for the last year. I was also elected to this board -- those lucky ducks. Just kidding. I hate to admit -- the reason I had my name on the ballot was to hopefully cancel out any of the previous bad board members from regaining the seat. I think of that saying --- be careful what you wish for ---
Have a glorious rest of today. It's a beauty out there.
Hugs, Jackie

Recently, Gwyneth Paltrow revelead she had a severe vitamin D deficiency which was causing weak bones/Osteopenia. But instead of turning to drugs, she's getting more vitamin D3 and sunshine!
(It's nice to see examples of celebrities taking responsibility for their health and sharing valuable information with their fans.)

Ah Laura, you caught all that. I currently work 7 days a week. Every day of the week I go to my friend Maggie's and clean her house. I take her to some of her Dr's visits and if she is feeling really worn and un-well I do her grocery shopping, and her laundry along with the housework. I also take care of her kitty apt. outside in the back yard. On Thurs. and Fri. I work at a realty company as a receptionist. I have been there 8 yrs. Was able to get a realtor's license but dropped it when I got this disease. After I'm done at the realty company I run out and feed at the three feral cat stations.....then over to Maggie's to do whatever she needs done --- then home to my menagerie and do a bit of housework and get on the computer.
Tomorrow I will add in a trip to Clean and Green recycle -- then on to House of Hope to clean cages, walk dogs, help medicate the animals that need it, help clean the facility --- many things had gone downhill with the old leadership so we need to bring it up to a good standard again, and then out to feed the ferals, over to Maggie's for her major Saturday cleaning, then home again to my group. Somewhere in there I'll grab a bite of something. Most of the time I do ok with these things, but I will be glad when things are on a better even keel. I would like a little more play time
I hope you all have a great Saturday.
Jackie

Well it is raining here but cozy and I am a happy person because I got good news regarding a series of tests I had during this past week. This past week has been a bit of hell due to medical issues, snafus in testing and just stress. I contacted Wendy the older and she literally walked me through each and every day and often several times within a day. What a friend we have with Wendy.
I have some digestive issues (IBS, colitis or Crohns) but I am able to accept any of them considering where my mind was taking me. I did not want to bring it to the thread as I truly was a wreck and did not want to spread my fear to you all. Wendy stepped up to the plate, opened the fort and sent me wine and cheese through cyberspace. For the new ladies, Wendy's "fort" is a very special place.
So now I feel so much more than simple relief. I need to work on my diet, exercise, stress level...and all those good things. I am thrilled to be able to do that!
To those in treatment....bless you!

Zap/Susan: I don't have colitis or Crohns but do have IBS. I have handled it well with diet, exercise and the occasional Phillips Milk of Magnesia. I almost never eat red meat anymore. For me its high fat foods especially red meat and high fat cheeses. I also eat tons of veggies and eat a probiotic with my yogart daily. When I don't I regret it.
You'll figure out your triggers. It can take a little time but once you do you'll be amazed.
