Friends are like the pillars on a porch.  Sometimes they
hold you up, sometimes they lean on you, and sometimes
it's just enough to know that they are standing by.

Very cool here!  Wendy, I am not sure what the temp is on the deck but I am going to gues low 70s.  Sweater weather to be sure.

Well I ordered the new drapes.  I have no confidence when it comes to decorating.  I can chaperone 90 8th graders to DC but I tremor at the thought of "doing" a window.  So I hired this man to come in and size everything and be totally responsible for everything.  I never knew there were so many RODS in the world.  So I told him to choose some nice rods for us.

To all in treatment, I hope this cool weather actually calms things down.  This was the time I went through chemo and I liked the cool weather as it invigorated me.  That was four years ago.

Jackie, thank you for explaining where you lived in California.  That was a nice story about how you came back to be near your mother.

The house inspection for daughter did not go well.  The house is 80 years old and has some real problems.  I feel  for them.  Not sure what will happen.  DH is their lawyer so he is trying to get the seller to fix things but people just don't have money these days (one reason they are selling a nice house) so we are not optimistic the deal will go through. Could be worse.

    Have a happy day!

    Susan

elf - Hoping your surgery went well. Hang in there little one!

WendyTY - Best wishes to you. You are in my thoughts...hang in there!

lago - Congrats! I hated my drains. It was like having a ball and chain. I kept saying to myself...drains, drains go away - DO NOT come back another day. Hope you're feeling better each day. A shower will do wonders!

Joan - You "sound" good. Hopefully we can all get together soon.

Susan - Thank goodness your daughter had a good/reputable inspector. When we bought our 1st house, the seller paid off our inspector. We ended up with a 3 year legal battle that cost us $50,000. Scary to say the least. I hope all works out for them.

I started calling the drains super hero testicles on another thread. (The bulbs looked sort of like giant testicals to me and we all know that super heros have big balls). The shower is nice. Looking forward to more range. Seems getting the drains out really helped although they do say my range is way ahead already. I can just reach the top of my head. Little more range and I will be able to wash it myself.

BTW I have some info on my path report. Tumor is only 5.5cm combo of IDC/DCIS (1 tumor only) clear margins. Nice since they were saying it was 7 or 6cm. My right breast had some precancer nothing in the 4 nodes.Still waiting to see if there is anything in the left nodes but so far looks like they might be clear… which would make me a stage IIB. Not that it would change my chemo. I'm just hoping I don't have to do radiation.

!!!!!!♦ NODES ARE ALL CLEAR ♦!!!!!!

    I'm a stage IIB

I'm assuming EGFR negative is a good thing (especially since I am HER2+)
also MIB-1 is high proliferative index >20% I assume that means that my cells are fast growning. (I already knew I was grade 3 from biopsy).

We'll see about the radiation. I would think clear nodes, clear margins and the tumor is a little smaller would help (5.5cm) but my BS said that with large tumors they like to do radiation. Part of my tumor was DCIS, I hope that helps too.

Hello there.. well.. had mammo and Ultrasound today to see if I can get a lumpectomy.. the mammo showed some calicification and US showed NOTHING.. in my breast OR lymph nodes.. So no lumpectomy for me.. At this point, I will wait for my next CT before I ask for an MRI as even if it does find something, there is no hurry and I can go on my vacations first.. BIG sigh of relief..

Hi Ladies. I am Onward/Caryn. I was just wondering if any of you had experiences with the new Hospitalists? I had to change my interist after twenty years after to bad experiences with them. The big groups no longer visit you in the hospital, they have different dr's who stay in the hospial all day and hey, I didnt get to choose them and from my two experiences, would never have. I have been told it is the way of the future. Cost savings (unless the guy you get dosent listen and puts you through way more testing than needed) seems to be only for the group. Onward

     Thanks for posting that lauraG

I don't remember if I posted this yet in this thread. Sorry if it's a repeat. Seems some of us are about to start chemo. I personally don't want to spend lots of money on "cancer scarfs" that I plan on never needing again yes at the same time I know I will need them. So I rather get nice scarfs that I can use again. There are a ton of videos on youtube that teach you how to wrap your head. Check this out:

    Afternoon all....just a quick drive-by...

    Iago and Marina....GREAT news!

    Carolyn....one more chemo!  Yay!!!!

Susan....I am sure your drapes will be beautiful.  If not, you can blame that guy!

Don't know much about hospitalists other than that they exist.  Haven't had to deal with one but then I haven't been in the hospital for over 3 years so I am not sure how that works now.  Sure wouldn't like to have a new doctor, just when you need your familar doctor.  I really don't think I would like that at all.

Gotta scoot.....hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather!

    Hey Carolyn............you're about done!  Super!

I spent the afternoon cleaning debris out of the yard from the strong winds and snipping away at flowers.  I've made a good dent.  I'll go back out in the morning and do a little more.  It gives me such a sense of accomplishment and the weather was fantastic here today.

    Hugs to all of you!

Yes, Carolyn.  ALMOST there.  I just finished my sixth of six last week and WOW.  It is so good to know that I can continue to get stronger every day and not have to look ahead to getting knocked back down again with another treatment!  You will be there soon!!!!

    Hello Illinois Ladies,

My name is Linda.  I am new to this website.  I have been rather fearful of discussion boards and been rather guarded with my cancer info.  But I know sharing is a required to get better.  I am from St Charles and am extremely thankful for the Illinois Womens Wellness program and support of the VNA in the Fox Valley area.  I was downsized in a corporate restructure and gambled that I would not need to continue with my Cobra insurance and later was diagnosed with DCIS cancer. In May I had a lumpectomy and completed radiation with the mammosite implant.  I am doing well except for arm swelling and still nursing the lymph node removal under arm pain.  I guess some take longer to heal.  Has anyone experienced this?   Any feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome Pinkgirl although we are sorry you need to be here.  You have come to a caring place.  You really don't have to share as such to get better, but there is a wealth of information here as well as much consolation.  No one quite understands the impact ( often a bit traumatic ) that goes on when you get a cancer diagnosis.  Was a bitter pill for me at first.  I was advancing -- abit rapidly I thought -- into a more mature age where life changes ( nice ones I would welcome ) woud be coming and I would gentle into retirement age.

Oh well -- it's ok.  I'm doing wonderful, but it is because I could come here and learn things I needed to know, find comfort when I was not feeling well and down and talk to people who totally understood when the people closest to me could not seem to grasp where I was and what I needed.

The arm swelling -- that should be looked at I think by someone who knows all about lymphedema.  I did not have problems with arm pain from lymph nodes being taken out.  Wondering if the swelling is producing feelings of tenderness in that area.  There are people who specialize in lympedema and I would certainly ask for a referral.  It seems to me that by now any swelling or pain should have resolved some time ago.

I hope you will come back often.  This is a great bunch of ladies, all ages etc.  The majority of us have finished active treatment, but enjoy each others company and want to help others on and after their journey.  Others will chime in soon and say hi and share information with you.  Talk to you soon.

    Hugs, Jackie

Thank you Illinois Lady.   I am finding a lots of information and inspiring stories here.  Happy to see the lymphedema forum.  I am going to see my surgeon this morning and will ask his expertise and ask for a referral.  I have a tendency to jump before I should which gets me in trouble.  My mind has been so focused on getting back in the workforce.  I was interviewing the day after my biospy this spring and a week prior to radiation expecting a two week recovery period.  Everyone heals differently and I need to explore this lymphedema with the professionals to determine what will be best for me.

Have a great day!  It looks like another lovely sweater weather day!

Rita, you sound like "Whistle while You Work" in the yard.  You make it sound it sound like fun.

Welcome Pinkgirl!  You have a lot going but you sound like you have fine direction.  I take it you will be job-hunting when you get all this under your belt. You will want to get the swelling down  I did not have that problem but I do know that some have had physical therapy. This seems like a very safe place.  Like anything else, use good judgment.

The only time I had experience with a hospitalist was with my mom.  I had the impression he was a liaison between the regular doctor and the patient while she was in the hospital.  That was a baffling time so I do not recall it well but nor do I recall problems.  I like my doctor so much that I would rather have him, I'll agree.

I had the bone density test but do not know anything yet.  The technician said "Very good," when it was time for me to go so I was hoping that meant the bones were good.  Oh, how we hang onto anything!

Wendy, the "man" measured the window and I am glad to leave the job to someone who knows what he is doing. It feels so great to get rid of those flouncy valences we chose in the early 90s.  I know BJ would have loved to get her hands on my house as she is a natural when it comes to decorating, but she is too busy making sick kids well.

    Have a great weekend!

    Susan

Welcome to the Illinois thread, Linda.  This is a good place to come when you need companionship, support, and friendship.  There's always somebody around to listen to us vent, calm our fears, and share their latest news.

Stephanie, you've got a start on those Taxol treatments now!  Let's keep our fingers crossed that you stay just like you are now.........with no side effects and that you whiz right through them!

WendyTY...I haven't called lately but you are always in my thoughts.  I've been reading on your CaringBridge site to keep up.  Remember that I am just a block away if you need anything or want to chat.  Love and hugs to you!

Susan, I need to tackle my windows, too!  We have such a beautiful view out of the windows that I really should think about the window trimmings.  Like you, I just hate to make those kinds of decisions.  Most of the time I don't like what I come up with once it is done so I procrastinate.  This migjht be a winter project for me.

Hi Jackie!  We haven't chatted lately but I continue to read the encouraging posts that you write on this site.

We have found our used pontoon trailer at just the right price.  It's in Indiana so we're heading out for a roadtrip on Saturday to pick it up and bring it home.  Sunday is the Pekin Marigold Festival.  I love the crafts.  It's hard to believe but we actually start bowling on Sunday night.  That means that summer is now behind us and winter sports are beginning.  I hate to leave summer behind as I know what lies ahead and I'm not very fond of it!

Well, I'm off to do laundry and get back out in my yard.

I hope everyone has a great Friday and a good weekend.  Hugs to everyone!

Good morning from a very wet little southern Illinois town.  I have a thin jacket on here at the office.  They have kept it way too cool ( boss likes lots and lots of air conditioning ) inside for me most of the a/c season so far and no exception now.

Ginger/Stephanie -- yay for you.  You have been so stalwart and positive all along and I think your chemo wouldn't dare "give" you problems.  I'm thrilled.  So often, because we react so differently we are hearing the other side so do know that it is refreshing to hear when it goes well and I'm sure VERY encouraging for others that it can.

Rita -- one of these days soon I plan to find my way to your place ---  I think it's about time for me and my better half ( I let him think that whenever he wants too ) to take a drive and do something just a bit different.

Hoping the weather clears later and my feral cats get to eat today....don't want things bunched up on Saturday.  Stay well everyone and don't work too hard and can't believe this, but I am hoping for a bit of warmth to return after the rain.  See you all later.

    Hugs, Jackie

Afternnon!  Glorious out.....some rain coming in later tonight I hear tho...

Welcome Pinkgirl/Linda!  To our little club that no one wanted to join.  My nodes were taken out from the same incision as the lumpectomy as it was quite off to the side and under my arm anyway.  But I hear that spot can hurt years later.  Should have the swelling checked out tho...better safe than sorry!  I am right up the road from you in South Elgin, just off Rt 31!  I went to Delnor for chemo/'rads and my surgery was done at CDH.

Not much time to chat today....have to figure out why my little netbook won't connect, and then 3 loads of laundry and it's sheet-day!  Did get the grass mowed this am tho....

Get out and enjoy these days....we'll be longing for them in January for sure!  Hope you all are doing as well as you can....
