Lets Post our Daily Exercise

Maybe I will need to stay off the ankle a bit longer .... I hear the hubby in the kitchen cooking up dinner now.
) I forgot to mention we did not leave the house today for the lunch special. I was making such progress, that we decided it might be good to just wait until tomorrow to venture out. We stayed in and watched some of the Olympics.0 -
Hi everyone. Have not posted in quite a while but you know I've been getting my exercise with the shovel almost every week!
Just came back in from shoveling the top half of what fell on Thursday. Only returned last night from Disney cruise so was in Bahamas for this one. Decided to just take off the top, about 8 inches, so my low car can easily get in and out of the garage. The rest can wait until summer for all I care. I'm tired of it!!!

Yes, Mary, that is a fun question! Let's see, in the summer Olympics, in my dreams, I would be a sprinter! In the winter, I'd be a speed skater!
In real life, I'm a very slow jogger without much endurance. Funny, but the only one of our three dogs that likes to jog with me is the one with terrible hips. Her endorphins kick in and she has more stamina than I do. My exercise today was a jog with Zoe while DH walked the two slow pokes behind us. He's the real runner in the family and he runs too long and fast for Zoe or any of the rest of us to keep up. When it comes to dog walking, he doesn't mind going slow, because he doesn't depend on it for exercise.

Summer Olympics I would run hurdles (I still hold a record at my high school) and I would love, love, love to try pole vault. Girls weren't allowed to pole vault when I was in school, but my son was an all-stater in that event. Winter Olympics I'm not so sure. Maybe curling? Looks pretty tame, weather doesn't seem to affect it, no serious risk of injury.
No exercise for me today. Finalized the purchase of a new vehicle and went to a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation dinner tonight. DH and nephew each came home with two new guns and I got a nice necklace/earring set. Long drive home tomorrow in my new car

hmm......I'd like to have the grace and artistry of the figure skaters, the courage of the downhill skiers and the endurance of the cross country skiers.

Hi patoo, great to see you!!!
winter: ice dancing......summer: volleyball (maybe beach volleyball,l because that would mean that I would look great in a bikini
)0 -
S&S, congrats on the new car and Odie, I copy you on aggravating and include expensive in a moment and good to see you posting, you too Patoo. We have had strong high winds coupled with constant rain (except for today) and woke yesterday to find the mature flowering crabapple tree in the right
corner of the front garden fallen across the wooden fence that divides
the front to the back. The beautiful old tree blew over from the base, as the ground become overly saturated. DH is still in no state to get a chainsaw and do it himself, plus we
need the fencing folks to come out to unwonky the fence when the tree is
off it. I'll check our insurance policy this afternoon. Wish it had fallen another direction and missed the fence ~ sigh. Olympic, hmmm, for winter, women's skeleton sledding and summer, women's field hockey.Sunny, clam, blue sky spring like day and ran a 5k this morning.

hi all and hey patoo! ♥
Got in a really good walk last night, yoga this morning.

Hey Patoo so good to see you and if I remember correctly you are the one who invented 'shovel and sculpt' who knew you'd be inventing an exercise program for the whole eastern seaboard!!!!! S&S I have a very weird sense of humor, so here goes... Did your DH and nephew use the guns to get you the jewelry
And congrats on getting the new car. Odie grumble grrrrr on having to deal with the aftermath of the accident but the main thing is that you are okay. LB your weather has been crazy, all yes rain probably weakened the ground, hope you are well out if the flood zone. Nihahi I love your answer, grace courage and endurance. Me I'd also be a skater because it would mean I wouldn't get dizzy every time I twirled around, at least I hope I wouldn't!!! And for summer I'd like to be a diver and again hope that my dizziness wouldn't cause me to belly flop instead of being graceful
Annie I forgot to congratulate you on the all clear, so may I just say woohooooooooo. My exercise for the past few days was Friday beach walk with friends DD who came to HB with her dog so she could experience dog beach, so much fun down there watching dogs enjoy the freedom of running off leash and swimming, we had one very exhausted doggie by the end of our walk and yesterday body Combat class.

Confession time....I have done very little exercise this past week! I have MISSED being physically active tremendously, but have just not found the time or energy once I get home. I tried getting up earlier than usual the first day of my volunteer work, and although I got some exercise in, it wasn't enough to "satisfy me", and I was exhausted later that day. I have a long, long history of sleep issues, and have found that the stress of what I'm doing at work, has blown my recently good sleep pattern right out of the water. Bad dreams, poor quality sleep.....yucko. I guess I'm saying that nothing reinforces how important exercise and "balance in life" are, than when you fall off that wagon!!!!! I'm not going to beat myself up about missing a week......I believe it's the "big picture" that really counts, but gosh, I so badly miss being physically active.
Hubby has invited the family over for a Sunday dinner today, which means he sits and chats, while I clean and cook, BUT.....I AM DETERMINED TO GET BACK ON THE WAGON TODAY!!!!! Hoping for a better balanced week coming up!

Welcome back, patoo!
Ruth, we could be a team for beach volleyball. Nice way to get a tan. Winter it's the Biathlon. There's something very James Bondish about it.
Zumba yesterday was not like I'm used to. I'm not sweating much with the new teacher.

Nihahi, You mentioned your work is volunteer. With that being said, are you able to control some of the options there? Your health is as important as the volunteer work you are doing. It is hard to put ourselves first, but I'm a firm believe that it has to start with us taking care of ourselves first, before we take care of something else. (Of course, family is different). But perhaps you can get a schedule change at your volunteer work. Are you able to tell them that you have another AM obligation and you can come in from 10-4 instead of 8-5 or whatever you have been doing. It's very noble what you are doing -- volunteer. I've thought about it recently, because I have some time right now in between my typical clients, but I will be need to make sure that I am able to adjust the schedule to fit my workout obligations. For me it is a non-negotiable obligation due to the research of risk reduction correlated between exercise and TNBC.
At any rate, don't be too hard on yourself for not getting more exercise in last week, you can start over. So last week you had a low exercise week, the great thing is that today is a new day, and this is a new week, and you get to start over and try to reach your goals again! I too had a very low week last week, but I will put it behind me and start with a fresh clean slate this week. It is hard returning today after a 48 hour break though. Remember your quote ... it's what you do with the next day that matters!

Welcome back Patoo! Shoveling all that snow was not my idea for a welcome home present!!! LOL
Nihahi, don't be too hard on yourself as it is really hard to work in time for exercising when working full-time. I am lucky my kids are grown and I can do it right after work as getting up early doesn't work for me. Just do what you can when you can.
Lilacblue, glad you have calm skies today and wish you the best in the cleanup process.
Forgot to add the extra shovel and sculpt yesterday as I had to dig out hubby's car. We didn't do it the other day since he has a company truck for during the week.
Today's exercise will be dog wrestling. Have a six month checkup for the fur babies and my neurotic female will be a hot mess.
Have a great Sunday everyone.

I was working all yesterday, so very little exercise. However, headed out to a group ride in about one hour. Not a lot, but 24 miles including some hills should help whip my sorry hide into shape. Just following everyone and looks like all is OK.
I successfully upgraded to Windows 8.1 this AM. Needed to as the Word document I was working on yesterday would just sit there an hang yesterday. I hemmed a pair of trousers while waiting for my computer to do its thing. Fortunately, it went a lot better for me than for Bill Gates. Just a couple of hours, similar to the XP Service Pack 1 & 2 upgrades.
Have my moving crew lined up for next week. I will be happy if I still have friends after this.
Last night was my Rector's sending party. Wonderful to see everyone, and also be part of the festivities launching her into her new life as Bishop. I also told people that I am moving and that I will be finding a church on the East Side.
I need to figure out where the ride begins. Near my new place, so another good reason to do it. Plus, the SUN is out. It's been blustery here as in that hail squall I got caught in last night on my way back from the party. (A good thing as we now FINALLY have sufficient snow pack to be fine with hydropower and crop watering for the summer.)
Catch up with all of you later! - Claire
EDITED to add that I bagged the ride idea after it started pouring again here in Seattle. Catching up on pre-move shopping instead...birthday gift certificates and coupons.

my goodness, gremlins are at work here today, I posted then went and corrected a typo in my earlier post and my later post disappeared, ah well......
So again - just back from Body Pump class. Nihahi as you're a volunteer can you just tell them you need to shorten your hours, my Sh'bam class is at 10am and I go into work get things set up and then go to the gym (it's only 10 minutes from my office) then I just add the hour on to the end of my workday, I used to feel guilty about doing it but I absolutely love the class so now I might just answer an email by saying, oh I have to run out for a meeting I'll be back just after 11am and I'll get back to you then, clients don't have to know what I'm doing

Treadmill & Arms, Abs & Buns of Steel. It is cold and damp and supposed to snow here today. BRRRRRR!!!!
Nihahi, I agree with all the others. Since you are volunteering, you should give them a schedule that works for YOU, and don't feel guilty about it either because one reason you retire is to be able to have more time for yourself! Since I retired last spring, I have been asking to do various volunteer things (some that sound interesting), join clubs etc. etc. but I decided I would give myself a full year to figure out what I actually want to do, and how much time I am willing to commit to even good things. It's how a feel about subbing too (which is not quite volunteer work). I like doing it; and am glad to go in if I don't have other plans, but do not feel one bit guilty about saying no either.
Heidi, I think the next Summer Olympics are in Rio, which would be a great place for us to work on our beach volleyball tan!

Hello Ladies
I have been walking to work - doing my usual weekend walk in the park and even riding my exercise bike a bit.
Just wanted to mention that not all places that need volunteers can be flexible with the hours. Often other volunteers and people are involved and times need to be coordinated. It isn't always easy being good and that is why people who do volunteer - especially on a regular basis - deserve our praise and gratitude and admiration.
Trust me - if volunteering was easy we would all be doing it.

So a big shout out to Nihahi.

Well said Bounce! Agree!!!!

Nihahi I'm just glad to hear someone else have trouble working exercising into the work week. I try to keep my step count up by walking at lunch either outside or in the building but my formal exercise has been lacking.
I walked for 30 minutes today. Huge chunks of snow were falling off the roof so I thought it was fairly warm but it must have just been from the sun on the dark rooft. Once I got out the wind was quite brisk and since I hadn't taken my scarf, my face couldn't stay out any longer.

Hi Patoo - so good to see you! Patoo is also the inventor of the term "Sculpted Sisters" so she's been at the heart of this thread for a long time.
Cheryl - LOL on Sweet's method of getting the jewelry! Nihahi - nothing is more important than a good nights sleep - hope you can get settled into a routine of sleep and exercise. As everyone else has said, making time for YOU is a priority. LB - we lost a beautiful southern magnolia the same way - after a rainy spell, one day it just fell over onto the fence, rootball and all. I still miss those beautiful fragrant blossoms.
Fun to see everyone's Olympic dreams - I'd definitely watch our beach volleyball team in action!
Too much snow still on the ground for a run, so did an hour cardio DVD this morning.

Walked the dogs one mile and ran one mile solo. I'm not sure if it's legit to call it running -maybe I should call it jogging, but I can do it for one mile continuously now, which may not sound impressive, but it's a "milestone" for me. I hope to work up from there, but for now, my main goal is just not to quit, but to keep it up 2 or 3 times a week.

Ladies, I did it - I'm back! I did 100 minutes at the gym, and posted 12 miles. 10 miles on the EFX, and 2 on the treadmill at 10.5 incline! I think my body must have needed that short-term break. I do have to go back at 7AM to beat the cleaning lady tomorrow at the gym ... which is why I hung out a little longer there this afternoon.
Claire, when is the big move to your new place? We watched House Hunters International today. People leaving the states for Belize and Spain. It was awesome .... I was secretly hoping that we could win the lottery this week!

So good to catch up with everyone. I'm so glad you're back Patoo! Hard to come home from the Bahamas to all that shoveling. Thinking of you Nihahi and hoping you can make some changes that are best for you. Sorry about your tree, LB. Not only the tree, but the fence, insurance call, etc. Good luck with your move, Claire. That's a very impressive milestone Annie! Glad you were able to have a fantastic workout Inspired!
Most of the snow had melted at the park so I was able to walk/run this afternoon. Felt good!
Mary: Love your question! My Summer Olympic sport most definitely would be synchronized swimming. My Winter Olympic event would be snowboard cross (not that I could do it - it just looks fun plus no flips or twists in the air).

AnnieLee, that is a very good milestone, 1 mile non-stop. I can't do any running out on the streets, it is much tougher outside than inside on a machine. The natural elements without the assist of the machine belt or pedals helping is a tough course outside. You are doing nothing short of excellent!

Or we could go out for the gymnastic team!
0 -
Ruth, at first glance, I thought that was Cheryl!
0 -
LOL I don't know if I should be happy that you would actually think I could do that OR be upset that you think I look like an 88 year old...........
0 -
Ruth, that is great!
Inspired - thanks for the encouragement!

lol.....too funny cheryl....assume it to be a compliment until proven otherwise.

Thank you everyone for the thoughts of modifying the volunteer work, and truly good advice in many situations, but not possible at this site. I do have options on choosing "when" I'm available, and somewhat flexible in what the assignment entails, (for example, this is a 3 week term in a town about 20 minutes away from where I live), but I am in disaster management with the Canadian Red Cross, and setting my own hours isn't optional in this current situation. I am missing one morning to make it to the PS appt. that was cancelled last week. I think I'll be a bit "better balanced" the next 2 weeks.
